FIRST LOOK: Amazing Spider-Man by J. Michael Straczynski Omnibus Vol. 2 

I've ordered like 6-7 omnibus in the last 2 weeks. I should not be watching more omni overviews but here I am.

Man I loved what JMS did with Spider-Man so much. I'll never forgive Marvel for making him undo everything he had worked so hard to achieve with him

Bold choice using art from One More Day on the cover. The art itself is wonderful; it is just that story arc.

I for one don't care about that Spine, it looks good to me. Thank you for going over everything. This is a Buy for me! Back in Black cover for me.

That Kingpin beating was one of the highlights of this run. This is aguy that can lift 15tons and I've seen times where the Kingpin appears top be going to to toe with Spider-man. That smackdown was a long time in coming.

What a year for omnis

I'm super excited for this! It's been over a decade since I've read the bulk of these issues.

I already pre-ordered the new printing.

Definitely a pick up for me. It's on my list of twenty six Omnies for this year. I'm getting the Back in Black cover. Thanks for going over everything.

Love the detail you go into on the spine issue... I'll happily buy them either way, but really appreciate the attention to features like this. :)

Even though this has the story that triggers me so hard I quit comics over it... I can't wait to get it haha.

Interested in what spider-man omnis are next with this one concluding and the Ben Reilly one concluding... I have all the Dan Slott material already, so I would hope for a different run. But Upgrading my Dan Slott collection would work too.

Glad I checked and saw those two Back in Black HCs weren't in the omni cuz I just bought both new for $38 on ebay. Practically a steal compared to how expensive vol 1 alone is.

There is a slot on the shelf all ready for it to fill. Real Quality first look and the NEW lighting is spot on. As for the spine it's perfect when compared to a DC omni. 👍Back in Black for me.👍

A must buy for me. I don't know if it's just the lighting but when you where comparing splash pages when Peter hits kingpin they both look a bit more red in the omnibus then the ohc.

Bromar, I love you for talking to David about the spine! I hated the flat spine! Still buying the books though! I own every Spiderman Omni, (except Byrne and I keep trying to talk myself into it). Anyways, pumped about this!

Planning on getting the 'Back in Black' cover for this one if I can. I will probably end my reading right before 'One More Day', as I see it as a tumor that has forever tainted Spider-Man as a character. Note that I do fully admit that there have been good stories that came out of it despite the status quot reset (Superior Spider-Man probably being the best, which doesn't even star Peter), but until they resolve it, I don't feel like the character can ever fully recover. On a unrelated omnibus buying note, you wouldn't happen to have any idea if there was a delay on the Daredevil by Bendis Omnibus 2 reprint, would you? It's marked as coming out tomorrow on Amazon, but it never showed up on the direct market sites for order two weeks ago like books normally would. I really don't want to miss it since I have omni 1, both Brubaker omnis, and Shadowland omni waiting to do a mass read of that era of Daredevil.

Tearing out the pages containing the One More Day issues would improve this Omni tremendously!

I love that Black cover. I don’t love the other two covers but I really dislike the standard market cover. Volume 1 is amping my top ten omnibuses of all time. Truly great stories. I don’t love vol. 2. In fact I don’t love it so much I’m only half way thru. I really need to give it a chance and read it thru.

The flat spine doesn’t bother me if the book holds together and I get to read it haha Thanks for going over everything, I’m really looking forward to this book. I wish they’d do a reprint of that civil war Spidey OHC though 🤞

Sins Past might have been a bad idea, but One More Day was one of the, if not even THE, most stupidest descision they took with Spider-man. I stopped my reading after that event. #UndoOneMoreDay Although JMS run on ASM was what got me in to Marvel Comics, so i will try to get both omnis of the run. (And the Swedish publication was not a complete one, so there are some gaps in the stories) Thanks for a good overview, Omar!

Glad to hear these flat spines are not the new trend going forward. I personally would rather just wait on the omnis until they had their usual printer(s) available, but I guess it's good that they want to keep these books coming. Certainly not a deal-breaker for me, but I know it will be a problem for my collector OCD.

Thanks for this overview Omar. I will be buying it. The OMD storyline will be interesting to me as I have never read it so I don't have the 'emotional or nostalgic attachment to this era of ASM even though Peter Parker Spidey is my favourite character. This omni will complement my JMS vol. 1 Omni and bridge the gap to my Brand New Day trades. Great work as usual mate. 😁

Obviously I love a spidey book and being a fan it's a must have in a way but I always do debate my purchases as I do have the comics and the price therefore comes into play a little. What I mean is some people get early omnibus volumes as it makes sense to get asm vol 1 and 2 etc because individual issues are quite a cost to a collector plus you dont mind a book even at over 100 notes. So later volumes are a luxury when you think that way. That being said yeah one more day is divided in opinion and I didnt like it but there is quality here in back in black amongst others so it's a class read. Loved the vid and thanks.

Only constructive comment is if you can position the camera over the book so that we are looking directly down at the book. Don’t know if this is possible but have seen it done on other videos. I want the Joe Quesada dust jacket! Cannot wait to receive my copy! I am the type that won't read an Omnibus until I have the entire run by the author. The exception to the rule are titles with super long runs ( Claremont's X-Men, Peter David's Hulk).

I would rather have the couple OHC (Back in black, civil war, other, etc) than just one massive book but the omnibus is so much more affordable. Omar, do you think those OHC will get cheaper ?

This lighting is better. The old lighting was too warm, this is cooler. Have you thought about putting your phone/camera directly over the book so it's square? I do that on my videos because rectangular book, rectangular video... just matches better than having a trapezoid shaped book in a rectangular video.

Great work on the spine discussion. I like the look of them, but can see the drawbacks. I feel like I need a good Spidey omni to really dig into the character (who I have never read consistently), but between Sins Past and One More Day, maybe this ain't it. That art, though ...

Got this one ordered. Never read the JMS run though I have of course heard about One More Day, look forward to reading it to form my own opinion, although I rarely like retcons. We'll see.

One More Day. The story who made me stop reading spider- Man and never come back. Until now! Only read Old reprints.

Wow, they included One More Day on the COVER of the omnibus? That’s one thing, but what’s so shitty about this is that JMS was completely strong-armed into writing it for Quesada. He hated doing it so much in fact that he left the book and didn’t want to be credited. Seemingly out of spite, he was STILL credited in the last issue of the arc that he didn’t even write. He was already screwed over by Editorial with Sins Past, so that’s quite a low blow lol.

I don’t mind the flat spine as long as it does not cause dmg down the line. I am getting both of these books awesome

I’m livid about these spines and the gutter curve. Comics should be fun to read but these books are not fun to read. The act of having to pry apart the pages to get them flat enough to read from overtop sucks. Because you have to do this for every page over and over and after like 10 minutes of reading you are ready to take a break... or stop reading altogether. A lot of people that get these books are planning on reading them later or are just getting them to collect and maybe not even read... but I read. I bought both SSOC Omnibus and they have terrible gutter curve as well and won’t lay flat which makes reading them a horrible experience, and yet the poor craftsmanship of those volumes dont even hold a candle to these no eye flat spine omnibus. I’m looking at the overhead view and I know that if that book was in right front of me I wouldn’t be able to read it at all without some serious strain. I watch this video and see what a waste of money this book is and think about all the people duped into buying it... Frankly this whole print run should have gone in a landfill. Can’t believe Marvel/Disney is going to sell people defective books. It is like a joke when you hold up the other book that lays flat... that is what people expect and what people want and Marvel knows they aren’t proper and is still going to sell them to people... this is tantamount to theft.

Lots of great art and seemingly more talking than fighting, I want to read it. Spider-Man was what got me interested in superheroes again for the first time since my childhood by watching Sam Raimi's Spider-Man and especially Spider-Man 2, which I still think is the best superhero movie of all time. However for the next several years I just watched the movies and read a few selected comics like The Books of Magic, Sin City, The Dark Knight Returns, Arkham Asylum and Wolverine: Origin, and I even had a chance to use Sin City, The Dark Knight Returns and Wolverine: Origin during a two-year teaching project at a private high school, where I taught Swedish lit and world lit. Watching the Smallville TV show a year ago made me interested in reading more comics and especially Supes and I look forward to getting back to the character that stirred my interest in the first place, Spidey. I'm also eagerly waiting for the beautiful Spidey/Mary Jane statue from Sideshow based on the art by the magnificent J. Scott Campbell.

If I look at this story as its own conclusion without any Spiderman comic following it,I can live with it, actually it's a pretty good ending,not a happy one,but knowing this was to be the status quo forever after this is what made it bad

I know this is an old vid guys so apologies. I'm itching it get a Spidey Omni but not sure what to get. Been looking at adjective less Spiderman Omni by McFarlane. Been looking at spider-man's tangled web Omni and a few other bits like that. Since vol 1 of this run is getting a reprint it makes sense to jump on here surely? Any advice welcome guys. Cheers

For someone who hasn’t read Spidey around this era, would you recommend to seek out the issues left out of this omni (e.g. Back In Black & Civil War) and read them interspersed with the omni? Or were those stories of lesser quality and not worth the effort?

When can we know when the round spine printing of Wolverine omnibus will be out?

Wonder if Amazon will actually deliver this to me :( I like that the spine matches up, I was worried they wouldn't. I'm like 2 minutes in but I'm guessing you get the flat spines because they give you the "prototypes".

Does anyone know if the back in black version has the flat spine?

Omar a question; is the book readable as one continuing story? Or are there parts missing, as you pointed out, there are issues in the 'Back in Black' HC that arent printed in this book. That's sometimes a problem with writer centered omni's, it leaves story gaps (like the Byrne one). Regretfully, the temporary Malaysian printers Marvel uses nowadays are bothering me, the binding is just too tight.

Nice. I've had this pre-ordered since the beginning of the month. The bookseller sent a notice that their release date was pushed back to April though. I just hope they remember to send on shipping day since my my source has been notorious of late for not shipping when promised and running out of stock without covering advance orders. Just one question regarding the portions of Back in Black and Civil War not included. Are the parts that are included readable without the rest of the missing parts or will I need to find the entire stories to those events? I'm not mad about the spine and just hope this leads to more omnis from current Spidey. Been Wanting to get Braintrust and Slott stuff in Complete Collections but a big portion is no longer available in the Complete format. Marvel seems to let that particular format sell out and don't do any kind of restock.
