How much have you used this and your over all rating? Seriously thinking about getting one as a shop gap until I get more private work. But the reason it's break is 1 of 2 things. Cheap fibre pigtails or a shit splice/Not calibrating the temps correctly

I have 8 fiber strand that have been cut. I am being told to fusion splice you need at least 20 feet extra fiber cable. Looks like you are just trimming the ends and splicing. is that correct? also did you have experience before or this was your first time fixing fiber? only reason I am thinking bout this is the cost to repair are double the cost of this machine.

An actual splice only needs a few cm for each end but if you have e.g. a multi core cable that is damaged you'd probably need to splice in a new piece of cable if you can't just pull more through. That means a double set of splices, with both ends properly enclosed in a suitable box etc., not surprising they would want 6 extra meters depending on what type of cable and where it's installed. Factor in the price of a trained tech to do this and all the associated kit you'd need it's not surprising if the job more than one of the cheapest fusion splicers on the market.

how to splice multimode fiber using this machine? I cant find the mode to select MM

Have you used any splice on connectors with this? If so, which one’s? I’ve had a hard time finding something that says it will work with this machine and I didn’t want to buy a bunch of different ones to try out due to the cost.

I've never tried splice on connectors. From looking at some videos of how those are spliced I'd guess that a 3D printed holder wouldn't be too hard to make assuming it would fit under the lid.

hi, I'm from Indonesia. my father uses this stuff many times to do his work but now he has trouble. he can't use it anymore because of the camera failure , he doesn't know how to fix it. i hope you can help me and my father. thank you very much.

Have you tried measuring splices with OP meter or OTDR?
@stuckinpants
@stuckinpants 4 года назад
I don't have access to an OTDR here, but I doubt the splices would be very visible - the optical core alignment is a pretty good measure of the loss in the splice. From experience looking at long runs with OTDRs, fusion splices are barely detectable.

In my opinion you cant recommend a splicer without testing the splices. Over long runs depending on test spec you wouldnt pick a bad splice up. Even using top brands you can put a bubble in a fibre through and it tests fine, but a good splice tests bad. These splices need to be tested at short distances i.e connector pig tail to cable and then at a distance i.e to a joint. Also tested at a high spec 0.1 on a splice and at the connector end 0.5 reflection without a merged event. Good video but for me alot of questions still need to be answered

How many burns have you got on it now and does it seem reliable?
@stuckinpants
@stuckinpants 5 лет назад
I'm not using it professionally so I only have around 20 burns. I pulled it out after sitting around for a few months and it worked flawlessly for the two splices I had to make just now. So far I haven't had a bad burn except for the operator errors I showed in the video. One thing I have noted is that it drains the battery when off, so sitting around for a few weeks will drain it by a lot. I just pull it out a little before putting it away (still fits in the case) and that problem is solved.
