First Look at the Billingham Overnighter aka the 'Bowling Bag' or 'English Duffle'

When Billingham USA asked if I was interested in reviewing the Overnighter, I said yes. When I started researching the bag online, the first thing it reminded me of was a bowling bag. The second thing it reminded me of was those 1970s vintage ADIDAS pleather sports bags I saw as a kid and dreamed of owning, but never did. However, once I got the bag in my hands, I knew right away I would use it as a daily duffle, not an overnight travel bag. In a way, I feel this bag might have a bit of an identity crisis, which is a good thing. It's way more versatile than an overnighter.
Yes, you can use this for travel, but you could probably also use it for shopping, going to the gym, school, or as a rugged albeit elegant work duffle bag. I can also see hobbyists (fishing, camping, RC racing, drone flying, etc.) using it to store and carry their favourite toys around town or into the wilderness. Stay tuned for my field test, but so far I really like my new English duffle bag.

I have had a Billingham Weekender since they came out, and it is by far the best carry on bag in the world. It holds the same volume as the largest wheeled carry ons, but it is much lighter, which really comes in handy when you fly in countries that weigh your carry on.

It’s definitely cold in BHT Studios as it’s a basement, but it’s fine. It’s nice a cool in the summer :-)

Hi Take, Speaking of Hong Kong, any plans to return? Also wondering how Mr. David Chan is doing? Wondering if He had to move from Champagne Court? So much has changed in Hong Kong since 1999 when I first visited. I haven't been back since 2017.

Planning on a return next year. Yes I heard Mr.Chan moved his shop across the street but is thinking of retiring. The last time I was in Hong Kong was 2020 just before the pandemic, so I’m anxious to return soon.

My main issue with Billingham is they are so vague of just straight up don't tell you what martials they are using, Fibernyte/ canvas is the only materials they state outright, they don't say what Grain the leather is, it should be 'full grain' at that price but instead they just say the colour or use words like "real leather" (if you didn't know 'genuine leather' is the cheapest & lowest grade of leather you can get with 'full grain' being the best) they also don't say what brand of Zippers they are using? (YKK zippers are widely considered to be the best & most durable so you would think if they are using those they would advertise it as a selling point like most other bag manufactures but i can't see that anywhere on the website) and or though reviews keep referring to the metal hardware on the bag as "Brass" the website actually doesn't mention what they use outside of "nickle plated buttons" and you don't need me to say just because it has the appearance of brass doesn't make it real brass... of course i don't own one (yet) & there might be some info page i missed with all of this information on it so please correct me if i'm wrong!
