Learnt to fly on a J170D and my only complaint is that Iris appear to have used the same FM between the two variants - the 170 should stall a little slower and less aggressively with its longer wings, but ultimately the difference is small enough that it took someone else pointing it out to me before it clicked. In all other respects, it reminds me a lot of the real thing... thankfully without the aching muscles the next day from its heavy controls! It's close enough there was no uncanny valley effect for me at all. e - It's been a few years, but from what I remember, you couldn't redline the engine in the 170 I flew either while in level flight. You could just leave it plugging away at rental power/full throttle all day and it wouldn't care (though the owner might, when TBO expired and they saw the results). Procedure was to dial back the power a bit for cruise anyway, but overall it was a pretty idiot-proof plane.
It would be worth mentioning that you get a total of four different liveries with GPS and two complete bush trips in Australia where this beautiful little bird has its home. Unfortunately, the tablet doesn't work for me either. Thank you for informing them, this will definitely be fixed.
The latest sim update seems to have fixed all the tablet woes .. at least it did for me. Very timely as I’m about to start my irl Recreational Pilots Licence in one of the exact liveries in Iris lineup so I can fly the real thing during the day and the sim thing at night! 😎
This was my first purchaise two years sgo. Yes there are slightly better 3D made aircrafts but the gentle line of this aircraft are there and there are both version, and with different cockpits, that is a plus for me.
this has the jabiru 2200 engine and I must say its pretty accurate with my experience in a thruster microlight with the same engine! nice video.. one of my favourite plane. the flight model how ever is not that great but its still a nice plane. you should get into the habit of keeping the stick full back when rolling down the runway and then keep it balancing on its main gear! same goes with landing you can "wheelie" the plane all the way until It nearly stops and this is what we do in in real life and its good fun to practice in the sim. keep up the vids! thanks
By comparison to the real thing it's pretty good; as you pointed out the carpeting is pretty good compared with seeing raw fibre glass. Approach speed is typically 60 Kts or slightly under with 2 stages of flap (max). Engine is 2200 cc manufactured by Jabiru and direct drive (no gearbox) Take off rpm 2850 rpm with one stage of flap. Raise flaps at 300 ft Cruise at 70 to 80 Kts is about 2400 rpm. 1 up 70 Kts 2100 rpm returns about 7 litres an hour Flat out 2850 rpm you can get about 105 Kts straight and level (depending who built it 😁) and using gas like it's going out of fashion ! Quite slippy as mentioned with a glide ratio of 17:1 2 seater; cozy is the term. Stick very light. Great li'l plane which you can fly on a uk microlight licence.
