First look at The Mirage Sun Hoodie - It's well designed

I'm a huge advocate for sun protection while outside. UPF 40+ sun shirts are great, but sun hoodies give extra protection to important parts like your neck, ears, and face. And this is definitely one of the best Sun hoodies:
The Mirage by Evolved Supply Co and ZPacks
As of this video, I've only been using this sun hoodie for a week so this is just my first impression to help anyone who is curious about it.
Stick around if you'd like to see a comparison video

Nice! Happy to see a great review of this piece. I love all the thought out features. Being mostly merino is fantastic, too.

Yeah I was excited to try out this sun hoodie! I think it's a great option for backpacking trips. They did a great job making a simple, well thought out design that works well for hiking

Thanks for your first impressions. As a hiker and skin cancer struggler, I wear a couple of brands of sun hoody merino and synthetic. I do look for more skin coverage than this has to avoid using sunscreen where possible . I think the coverage of the hood looks too small. There isn’t good enough side coverage of your face, and too much exposed skin around your neck area. It might be comfortable but less effective than some others in providing sun protection. The thumb holes and hand covering looks good.

These are really good points! The hood does go a bit farther, but it is less than others like you said. I personally don't like a hood that covers much of my face so I usually wear sunscreen I'm debating getting sun pants so my legs aren't so exposed all the time. Let me know if you have any you'd recommend!

Hi! I am also a hiker and melanoma/skin cancer struggler - always looking for new ideas for hoodies! Currently I wear both Patagonia and Arc'teryx ones, do you have a favorite brand/model? Agree about the hood.

Cool review ! Hopefully you can answer me, do you have news about durability ? How is it holding up ? I'm afraid about backpack friction damaging it (happened to me with a black diamond Alpenglow)
@StephenOutside
@StephenOutside 4 дня назад
@@Impuls3css I'm 1,000 miles into the PCT and it's held up amazingly well! The pilling hasn't gotten much worse, and the wrists have held up extremely well! Some extremely small holes (almost pinhole) along the seams of the wrist. And that's all! Nothing has really changed. I think it would easily do 3,000 miles It's held up better than so many other sun hoodies on trail (ridge merino, REI, Aspenglow, Rab Echo)

Thanks for the review, I was wondering what your height/weight are? I am a 41" chest, 5'10", 80kg (176 pounds) and not sure whether to get a medium or large.
@StephenOutside

I'm 5'10" tall and 155 pounds (70 kg). These are made with a very athletic fit, so they will be pretty tight to your skin if you order your normal size. If you'd like a loose fit or classic fit, then Evolved Supply Co. recommends getting a size up. That's what I did and I really like the length of the arms (I'm usually a medium and I ordered a large)

How quickly did it dry from all that sweat? I’m hiking half dome via the mist trail and trying to think how it would fair if it gets past hiking by vernal falls
@StephenOutside
@StephenOutside Месяц назад
When I'm done hiking for the day it probably takes an hour to dry out. The mist from Vernal falls would get it abnormally damp, so I'd expect it to dry out in an hour or two

When someone with ginger-coloured hair talks about getting burnt, I LISTEN. Plenty of people with more melanin in their talk about skin cancer and skin health... but blonds and especially gingers with really light skin... we're talking about avoiding blending in to the changing leafs of a maple tree in autumn, or the shell of a cookie crawfish, or avoiding blending in to the landscape in Red rock canyon. The burnage is REAL.

Lmao, the struggle is real! I jumped on sun hoodies pretty early and I can not tell you how much I love them. They're such a game changer! It's very rare that I get burnt now

why do ginger people love mellow creamy colors?
@zeplin8971
@zeplin8971 Месяц назад
As a fair skinned person I think it’s because more bold and vibrant colors don’t look quite as well on us as our friends with more melanin. Also lighter colors don’t absorb as much heat
