Model 72 also comes with a filter that can be used in Amp Room. It has an envelope follower in it. The package on sale is a great deal. I don’t know if you noticed, but Softube also has modules from Parallels and Statement Lead as well now.
It sounds competitive with other well-regarded emulations, but the integration with Modular really gives it some value and flexibility. Note that Monark allows for the same in Reaktor Blocks.
I like the Synapse Legend more, because its polyphony and other additional features. This makes it more versatile. Soundwise both playing in the same ballpark IMO
That's right, and with Modular you can turn the Model 72 into a polyphonic synth :) Btw. are these Minimoogs used much in trance today at all? I have the feeling that most producers use more modern stuff, also for typical Moog sounds like bass
I prefer Statement Lead by Softube, this plugin the Softube Model 72 is very old. And moreover I find it dirty because it has not been cleaned before going on RU-vid.
I prefer the aged look on the modules, stops all the modules looking the same. I guess its the design language they settled on though. The FM sounds really good, I hope to get round to playing with the demo later. I really hope they do a TB 303 filter, I got the one in Voltage modular but it didn't sound right and there's no accent control. (on a side note the accent on the 303 changes the routing where the signal path is sent to an all pass filter and then mixed back in with the LP filter, which is why its difficult to make 303 presets sound right on different synths ). I also agree about the sound, i feel like its more realistic in softube, possibly this is even better than arturias. Any chance you could make this patch downloaded able from google drive / dropbox, sounds really cool! I'm still getting my head around patching.
Yeah the look is totally subjective... TB 303 stuff from Cheery I was pretty dissapointed with... they're ok in their own right but sound nothing like a 303 at all. Phosycon is usually my go to for 303 stuff. I don't think I actually saved this patch, was just messing around at the time but I'm waiting on an update for my website and then will have a few more free downloads available... I've got a synth template I've made for softube modular that'll I'll upload at some stage with some free presets as well.
@@MarulaMusic I got the moog modules better than monark imo, I'm working on some acid tracks at the moment and I've been doing a 303 shoot out. Rolands is the most realistic, considering getting it, i have the reason rack ABL3 which is very close to roland's and phosycon has a great sound and controls but i feel like it needs oversampling, its not tackling the high frequencies very well, unlike abl3 or roland. ABL3 gives a lot of emulation controls as well. Having said all that, synthmaster has some really usable 303 type patches with really handy macros that work well in a trance or hard trance context.
@@FatalFriction lol, I literally just finished a 303 shootout for Sonic Academy with ABL (in the reason rack no less) phoscyon and the Roland one. Bottom line, sound wise they were so close... Although the behavior of the 303s filters was the closest I think but I'm not a fan of Roland's software or subscription plan. I loved ABL in reason due to the sequencer and the ability to patch it via cv and gate to other instruments. Phoscyon has more control over the sound with attack parameters etc and it's the best value. Also managed to get pretty close with Ana2's Roly filter and a sampled 303 wavetable. Check it out, should be on their youtube page in a few weeks.
@@MarulaMusic No way. Not a fan of subscribing, it does not fit how I work. Roland are supporting lifetime keys now, though they have a reputation for not providing hardware driver/firmware updates, so I'm curious it roland cloud won't get replaced by something else a few years down the line :)
Pretty interesting despite being another Minimoog port. I'd probably be down with this if I didn't already have Diva, Monark and also having recently acquired the Behringer Model D. The Buchla oscillator really tempts me to get into the Softube Modular as well.
I suspect the softube one is probably extremity close to the original... But enough to ditch diva or monark? Probably not. If you're in modular I think it's definitely worth it though. The buchla stuff is great albeit very expensive and still kinda niche. The intellijel modules for modular are awesome, should check those out too.
@@MarulaMusic Yeah no doubt. Softube's modelling is pretty much second to none. I have a few Intellijel modules in my rig and can vouch for their usefulness. Have you ever played with a 200e system? Expensive yes, but the sound is absolutely gobsmackingly good!
Hello! thanks for the awesome review! but could you show how to make a patch in which the sequencer was launched not by pressing "play" in the DAW, but by pressing the midi key. For example, I press a key on the midi keyboard and the step sequencer starts running continuously until I release the key.
The clock source is linked to the DAW so you'll always need the track running... You should be able to start the sequencer with a trigger or gate signal from midi cv section though when you press a note.
Hey. yeah still love it... whether you get it really depends on your needs. If you're looking at it specifically for modular, the Model 72 is amazing for tone generation. If you're into sequencing etc. I suggest you check out Parallels as well. Its cool as an instrument, but the modules they've just released are really good. You get a sequencer module with a random function, euclydian sequencer, traditional sequencer and LFO which is syncable to clock. Very cool to have... thats with a mult fx unit, filter, envelope and the sound sources.
@@MarulaMusic Thanks for the feedback Nate. I ended up buying it even though I don't own modular yet, I'll pick that one up perhaps on BF. System 72 really is a very unique sounding vst. Some of those bass tones are unmatched compared to my other synths. Real happy with the purchase. In demo'ing modular I was very impressed by the heartbeat modules as well so I picked that one up too cheap on KVR as a standalone.
Some of us like dragging virtual cables around 😉. That said, I tend to seperate sound design stuff from writing music... I don't usually patch modular stuff much when actually working on songs.
