@@CarBuyerComSg We hope so too if you get to drive it again any chance you could see if a Man's mountain bike will fit in the back with the seats folded down please. I cannot get over the Singapore price. Here in Australia the Blue Long range is around $50,671 Australia dollars ready to drive on the road and most of us receive a $3,000 EV rebate from our government off that price.

Great review. In 2018 I was in Singapore and our taxi to the airport was a BYD. Being an EV watcher I was all questions for the taxi driver who I think may have been glad to drop us off. I know taxes in Singapore are super high for cars, but your MRT pretty much covers the whole country. I have also seen charging graphs that shows the 80kw DC is will go as high as 89kw on faster chargers, so at 15kw/100km you could add 100km range in about 11 minutes. I think this is a critical charge speed, as in Australia, being able to add the afternoon drive worth of charge while having lunch is important.

Great video. Some good content which I haven’t seen in the other reviews. You mention 400km in real world range rather than 480km as claimed by manufacture. With me being new to EVs is that a rule of thumb application you have applied to allow for traffic, climate control, daytime temp etc? Or is it known that most EVs in the practical world don’t make the range a manufacture states? Again great video I will be subscribing. Thanks. James
@jasonk203
@jasonk203 2 года назад
All batteries function differently according to the climate. The range of EVs in Norway need retesting before its advertised on the market. It's not that the EV companies are trying to trick you, its just that there is too many variables to give you an accurate range. It's really dependant on where you are. Nevertheless, the real range shouldnt deviate too far from the claimed range by the manufacturer.
@XingersTechLounge1
@XingersTechLounge1 2 года назад
The 480KM range on this car is rated based on WLTP testing. The only thing you need fo be aware of is that this testing is standardized. While it means real world performance might differ, what this rating is useful for is when you compare cars that have been tested using this standardized method. A car with 500KM WLTP range will always go farther than a car with 460KM WLTP range.
@lawaataling
@lawaataling 2 года назад

BYD overtook Tesla in sales during early 2022 because bulk of the BYD sales went to ComfortDelgro Taxis that you see on the road, not counting those that went to PHV registrations. Might be a fairer comparison if you have actual data of sales on BYD bought by private buyers and not from commercial entities. Maybe it will help if you can include real world range tests from 90% to 20%, instead of quoting range from the manufacturer as we all know it's not accurate in real world conditions. Car reviewers also tend to skip the high road taxes imposed on the electric vehicles as compared to ICE vehicles, in the case of the BYD Atto 3, the annual road tax is at $1796.
@CarBuyerComSg
@CarBuyerComSg 2 года назад
That's a good point; we hear a little over 20% of BYD e6 sales go to everyday drivers, with the rest for private hire vehicles. The Atto 3 is really the brand's first B2C product, but with more than a hundred deposits taken for it, BYD is certainly off to a flying start with this one. Tesla has been supply constrained and we hear its stocks are now in, plus the Model Y is now available - the EV space is getting more exciting here, that's for sure! We quote manufacturer figures for range as a starting point, and in our experience it's been possible to get close to the figure with some care and restraint behind the wheel. That said, as a rule of thumb we subtract roughly 20% and consider that an achievable real world figure. We'll definitely report back after we spend a few days with the Atto 3. At CarBuyer we actually do talk about the road tax situation for EVs in our written reviews. We totally agree with you that it's a material figure that does require some scrutiny.
@ralphk1950
@ralphk1950 2 года назад
@@CarBuyerComSg I am sure the BYD Atto 3 will be a hot seller given this attractive price point with the insane 100k COE. Gone are the days where Chinese car manufacturers are considered of poor quality, the EV manufacturers such as NIO, Xpeng, BYD and Li Auto all produce excellent vehicles. As an additional area that could be shared in future videos on EVs for the viewers would be sharing the ease of charging within Singapore, such as the availability of chargers (SP Power), the difference on fast/slow chargers and how long does a full charge typically take to charge. I guess many people are still uninformed on information such as these when it comes to owning an EV. New car buyers are against buying an EV because they think it will be difficult to charge and often takes a long time to charge, hence the reluctance to switch to an EV. Owning an EV definitely requires a mindset change and somewhat a lifestyle change. For eg, they can be easily charged at a shopping mall for 30 mins if you are out to do groceries. For a small country such as Singapore, I am surprised the EV adoption is lagging behind compared to other countries like Norway / Denmark. To add on, I feel that the whole road tax structure for electric vehicles is flawed and was hoping the LTA can review them if they want increased adoption on them. An ICE vehicle like the Mercedes C200 only pays $682 for annual road tax, yet the BYD's road tax is close to triple the amount. It feels like a half-hearted effort to encourage EVs on the road with these high road taxes. What gives?

This car is very nice, but the (deadly certificate) COE is way overcharged by Singapore government and only last 10 years, then has to re-bid and pay another 100k or more after 10 years. It’s almost 3 times more expensive than what I paid for the Ioniq 5 SEL in the U.S. which cost only US$56k and a much better performance car in terms of speed, performance, comfort, space and of course the 800 KWH charging speed and the futuristic design. BYD is a very good EV in term of range efficiency and safety features which included the “black box”, video recorder and air bags all around. I think this car will be a better choice compare to the petrol/gas consumption cars in term of performance, quietness, maybe comfort lah, and of course if you want to save money on expensive overcharged petrol/gas price in Singapore, this car will be a better choice.

Singapore government depends on the COE to make billions and billions and also control the volume of the vehicles in Singapore. There is a group of people working for Singapore government on how to tax and get more money from the ordinary people if you wanted to own a vehicle. No exception for older vehicles more than 10 years old, because if you own a car, Singapore government will always find a way to get you pay more in term of road tax and insurance. And of course the “deadly blood-sucking certificate” (COE). I am glad that I migrated to America for not dealing with all this blood sucker fees living in Singapore.

Why Singapore wants to invest in electric car? Singapore electric main generator still used fossil fuel or even coal powered There is no savings or reduce carbon footprint. From what I have been hearing, its still better to emit hydro carbon fumes from a tail smoke stack than an auto rear exhaust.
@CarBuyerComSg
@CarBuyerComSg 2 года назад
Singapore doesn't generate power from coal. The majority is from natural gas, which is the cleanest fossil fuel around, with some small but growing contribution from solar. There are plans to buy hydro power from Laos, plus a sub-sea cable in the works to bring in solar power from Australia. That said, there is already a power grid emissions factor that is applied to EVs here, and they are still cleaner on a net basis than ICE after you account for electricity generation. On the flipside, ICE cars are only judge on tailpipe emissions when there is a lot of embedded pollution from the extraction, production and transport of petrol and diesel.
@truthful3777
@truthful3777 2 года назад
@@CarBuyerComSg Well Laos is not a long term solution as there are environment damaged concern on the hydropower dams. Further Laos is modernizing and they themselves need the electricity themselves in the near future. Today they have enough to spare but near future, they may not have enough if Laos people each own EV cars. I trust it their buses soon will be electric buses. As for Solar power in Australia, it would be expensive affair and not much energy can be harnessed with such big installation. It will be short term planning as Australia themselves need power too in the near future. Btw Australia power generation still run on coal. It will be irony that Singapore use clean solar and they themselves using coal powered electricity.

@@CarBuyerComSg electricity from Australia is kind of … no comment there, just laughs haha. Gas is the cleanest fossil fuel. But lately SG trying to be tough with Russia wasn’t very smart. COE stands for Certificate Of Entitlement, which means your right to own and use a car in Singapore. Government uses this to control the number of cars on the streets, in this tiny country state. Last month the COE price has gone over 110K for an above 1.6L car LOL~
