Unboxing and discussing the CVA Acura LR-X. 50 Cal with 30 inch barrel, detached ram rod, fully coated, threaded barrel, quick break down, adjustable comb and lots of other cool features made this my pick for my new muzzle loader!
I got a wolf when I was 17 or 18 and it has put down more animals than I think all my other weapons combined. It has been an amazing gun that treated me great. It was actually really hard to think about not taking that gun with me during muzzleloader season but my wife will be using it
I thought about that, but I also have a rifle bearer I can use on my pack and in that scenario I wouldn't use a sling. I ended up mounting it to the bottom of my marsupial bono harness and it's working great so far
I'm a archery Hunter and have been for years! I'm interested in getting into muzzleloaders but I have a sickness for really good equipment thinking about setting up 40 cal long range muzzleloader but not sure yet
Ya I'm super bad about wanting to test everything and push the limits. Problem is I will push towards advanced tech and no tech at the same time. Same time I bought this gun I was trying to decide which flintlock model I'm going to build by hand. One thing I will say is look hard into what you plan to hunt with the gun for its lifetime. I looked at 45 cal but know it will be used alot for elk and possibly one day if I'm super lucky something larger like a moose. Not saying a 40 cal isn't capable but everything hits its limits eventually.
You need to decide other than 50 cal because the others are specific and if you wanted to use other than the specific caliber you have sabots are rare in other than 50 cal.
I have 1 in 50 cal w an anarchy outdoors brake. I absolutely love it but I don't use powder. I use pellets so the funnel isn't a problem for me, but that's just my preference.
How is the smoke disapation on it? I honestly don't feel like muzzleloaders have a terrible kick or recoil to them but getting the smoke cleared out faster for watching your impact or follow up shots is what I'm interested in.
@@ampedarcher9426 if you cantel tell as the animal is falling over or laying there you haven't done your job as a shooter. I have shot a ton of animals with a muzzleloader and they all were falling/fell before the smoke cleared.
I've seen one fall and another step up in it's place hunting cow elk and at that point it was the second person that provided the feed back the first cow was dead. A person could easily have took a second shot at what they thought was a miss and ended up breaking the law by killiong two elk. There are pros to seeing your shot and not really any cons that I could see.
I live in New Mexico and I do not understand why they sell them with scopes, because they don't let you use a scope on muzzle-loader hunts. I have a couple CVA's.
How are you liking it so far far? I bought the same one and took a nice Mule deer with it . Now i am going to start working on better load's and stuff.
Honestly the round it seemed to like the most was hard to find there for a while and I haven't really got back to it from being so busy. Do think I would have been happier with the LR vs LRX but I'll spend more time with it as I can through the summer
Had some issues getting the bullets it seemed to like the most but even shooting some stuff thay was just decent 250 isn't going to be much of an issue. Now that I've got the barnes tmz it seemed to like I'm planning to work with it some more and try to get it to hit small steel at 400 reliably.
@ReelinTension sorry missed that comment till now but the current groups aren't stellar. With the bullet I prefer they shrink down a considerable amount but I still wouldn't put it in rifle class grouping.
Haven't sold it but also just haven't spent a ton of time with it. Was having issues getting the bullets it seemed to like the most and then it's just been a super busy year so I haven't been shooting it near enough. I will say I do wish I'd have gone with the regular LR vs the X from what I've done with it so far
I dont believe having a ramrod under the barrel affects accuracy. My Knight Mountaineer .50 outshoots my friends shooting CVA rifles with no ramrod. It's BS. I'm the blacksheep of the group. Knight rifles come with a 200yd MOA guarantee. Mine DEFINATELY is well within that.
Ya I don't think it's something most people can see and it's probably a small percentage increase with a shooting machine. I've been around some knights that were more trouble than they were worth and then some seem to be amazing. Nice to hear you've got a good one
what bullets and powder weight have you come up with.ive only had good results with hornady sst with 80 grains by weight.the elr bullets have not been good for me
Still playing around honestly, I was having good luck with the TMZ and I think 84 grains by weight. I decided to try the TEZ bullets instead and my groups have not been nearly as good so I'll probably change back. These were a little easier to load due to the tight bore so I was hoping I could get them to shoot as good but no luck here. I have some hotnady and another brand I'm forgetting that I'll probably test still but right now it's looking Ike the TMZ might be what I go with.
Might be the case. We will see. I still like to test stuff even the budget level things. I've had great luck with the cheap cables scope so far on my budget long range build
