First look INSIDE Blackpool's NEW look Abingdon Street Market 

how is this a market?? its a food hall now im disappointed😟

I wish this new venture well and hope the food and drink providers find that their investment is wise. Having said that I feel for the traders who had to leave the real Abingdon Street Market [as well as the Bonny Street Market traders.] I remember the large variety of retailers here as well as the cafe where the tea tasted good and one could read a book from the bookstall or people watch. People of all ages, tourists and locals, day trippers and holidaymakers. I could get a new battery in my watch or a tool from the tool store. Buy an umbrella if the day turned to rain or maybe look for classical or swing-era music. I bought thermal underwear at season's end once and some thick winter socks. What I see here is much change and the title 'market' does not agree with my stick-in-the-mud definition of that word. I had hoped for a mixture of old and new and so will many who enter the doors under the Police Station sign. The 'old' version of a market has kept this building alive through the years and able to house these refreshment opportumities, as I said earlier - I wish the enterprise all success. In a separate vein but not unconnected in context ... The North Pier is now 160 years old, it caters for the nostalgic amongst us and I hope that for at least in my lifetime it can keep that precious element.

That's no longer a market it's just a food hall. Blackpool is full of eateries of all descriptions. Very disapointing. How about the council invests in a proper market to replace the three that we have lost

My first job at the weekend was in here on a fruit veg and flower stall. I was 15 . I'm now 65 I wonder what they did with the subterranean tunnels under the market, it would make a brilliant çlub down there. Nothing will replace Abingdon street market or the red market as we used to call it, my late mother and i was in most weeks you could get most things from food, clothes, shoes, handbags, curtains, records and so much more...

I'm moving to Blackpool and I'll be definitely coming in for lunch 😀

It doesn't compare to the original market, it just seemed to be food and drink stalls, people love bric a brac stalls and bargains, it's a shame the old market had to go, I used to love the fish stall looking at fresh crabs on ice and the dvd stall, I'm sure some people though will enjoy it 😁

Great video, that was a true american burger for sure !! Did you put the music on ? It sounded good, looks like it will be a popular place. Lots happening on saturday in blackpool, and the weather should be good to. 😊

So disappointed in this, Blackpool has plenty of food outlets , but now we have no market . They obviously haven't bothered to ask local people if they want this or the market back because everyone I have spoken to would have said Market hands down . Huge disappointment.

This makes me so sad. I grew up walking round the old stalls with my Mum and Nan. This is what Manchester needs, not Blackpool

Im just catching up with the videos now but just to repeat what was said at the beginning of the video. The stalls are coming later it's still a working progress at the front it even says on the posters. I loved the old market too but Blackpool needs this, it needs to be brought into the 21st Century. It's upsetting i know but Blackpool got left behind and now money (which was needed) is getting poured into it. This will attract the new generation and thats how a holiday resort survives. The town needs cleaning up which is getting done after all these years. Be thankful that the council cares because they don't in some places.

I think what they have done with that half of the old market looks great, it bodes well for the other side. We fancy some food from Tuk Tuk when we next visit. Our only niggle is those benches, being of the older persuasion, we will only want to sit on one end and wouldn’t want to try and sit in the middle if both ends are occupied, but they will be great for families, when the whole family comes for a visit there are 7 of us. Maybe a mixture of different sizes of tables would be better.

i thought there was going to be market stalls inside abingdon st market not food places what a compleate waste of money if there is no market stalls going to be inside it at all and just food places we will not be going in there when we come in august this year .people want a market not a food court that everything in it is over priced .we have already lost bonny st market now we have lost abingdon st market as well now they really can not call it abingdon st market cos there is no market stalls inside it anymore only a over priced food court we will not be going in there we will be going to chris the£1 burger man&pete at happy dayze arcade & the mermaide cafe good vid jane i am sorry about ranting on but it shocked us both when its not going to be a proper old style market like it used to be and its just going to be a food court many people like us who have been coming for years to blackpool do not want what they have made it into now

😢 so disappointed me and my partner took a walk down from south shore for a bagel lunch today Sunday 28th May and it was all closed up with council notice on the door about licenses, what’s going on there’ll be a lot of disappointed visitors this weekend

Well I must say I won't be visiting the market again because it isn't a market the traders with stalls were treated wrong kicked to the kerb been going to the market since the 70s bad days

So we've no Abby market anymore? Ridiculous. What about fresh produce, decent butchers and thr epic books, watches/papers etc etc?😮😢 This a 'for visitors' bit of over priced fluff. Where is there a market for locals without cars? Grrrrr!! Edit; yes, my partner points out theres apparently somewhere for stalls opening soon BUT Id still argue a huge food hall isn't what towns desperate for...I'd argue a regular foodie market thing like York etc does would be epic round the corner...i fear stalls and cash are heading for extinction 😢

it looks awful, reminds me of the old holiday camp days, line after line of screaming kids and noisy parents, an experience, it most certainly is, all that is missing is a feeding trough and the experience is complete, another council waste of money

Can’t see that working myself I’ll probably tell me all viewers to give this a miss all it is is a food Hall aware youngsters could get hold of beer cause trouble load of rubbish and overpriced. What a waste of money that is brother went in on opening day. It was too loud and too expensive, and that is probably what I will tell my viewers as well to give it a miss

It's like the tardis, but let's hope it's not trying to be like Manchester. I'm trying to get away from that place. Hahahaha.
