An initial look at the Smith & Wesson Model 627. This is something I really want to follow up on in the next two or three months, but this is a first look video.
Nice,what I’ve learned it’s always good to keep the original Box/Case that gun comes in. Put it away you always have for resale if ever you wanted to sell it..
Great gun! Good video! I love my 627 pro. I changed the grip to wood Altamont and the front site to a fiber optic. I found a leather holster from Galco that fits it well. The Holster model is DA0126.
I've got about 5k thru mine. My fav gun to take to the range. I'd had a 629 for years and maybe fired 10 shots double action the whole time I owned it. I probably havent shot more than 10 single action in the 627. Love it.
Nice gun. Love Smiths. Just fyi Hammer block safety is used on Smiths. Not a transfer bar system. As far as I am concerned, hammer block is the superior system. More expensive to manufacture though.
That funny color on your trigger and hammer is called “color case hardening”means those are forged parts and yes the best parts in my option for revolvers. Much better than “MIM”parts for sure!
I think mim parts get case hardened. Those are likely mim parts. I agree with you though, no smith and Wesson part should be mim’ed. They should be forged the way they used to be
What if the gun was locked for safety and storage and you needed in a hurry in an emergency. Will you be able to unlock it in time? What if you can't find the key or can't get to it in time? It prevents kids from using it, but it shouldn't be loaded and out where kids could grap it in the first place. That lock is there because of government over reach. S+W some how was pressured to do that. I refused to buy one for that reason. I have several older models.
Less than 15 seconds to hand load the bullets into the gun. 2 minutes to force bullets into the stubborn moon clip. If i'm going to the range, the stupid clip is staying home.
TK customs sells the tool for loading and unloading that’s the price of using moon clips! You don’t have to use them there should be proper head space for just loading the cylinder. You will ruin the moon clips if using pliers!
Very utilitarian gun. Looks good and being an N frame, you know it’s going to last no matter how many hot magnum loads you put it through. It’s a work horse and one that hits with authority. 8 shots of 357 magnum is some serious firepower. There’s the Coonan 357 & the desert eagles but you sacrifice reliability with them. And the desert eagle in particular is way too big and bulky not to mention the coonan has grips that are only made for giant’s hands. This gun truly is a king that has it all. Power, capacity, reliability, style and substance. 4 inches is the perfect barrel length too for duty carry or OWB carry. 5 inch ones (627 performance centre, TRR8, R8) I find are too long for carry and the 327 & 627 performance centre snubbies are too short to take real advantage of the 357 magnums. This is the best 8 shot 357 magnum N frame revolver S&W makes and i dare say it’s probably the best one in the world. It’s a hidden gem no one seems to know about. Only thing I can think of that could compete with this in my books is the 327 PD, but with its scandium frame and titanium cylinder, you sacrifice durability at the cost of weight savings. Not to mention they’re no longer made. This thing in comparison is a stainless steel tank. Doesn’t get more durable than this thing. All Hail to the true King of the revolver world and let none dispute it.
Beautiful revolver. I do wish the site adjustment screws were star or at least Phillips head rather than flat. Looks too easy to slip and scratch something.
Im old school when it comes to a revolver stick to popular calibers like 38 357 or 44 mag something thats stood up to time and still remains here i have bought handguns that were oddball new calibers and if they dont take off either your gonna have to reload ammo or you have a expensive paper weight if the caliber doesn't do well and take off what happens they discontinue it
I was a little hesitant to say the price, but if you look around online you can get it for around $1,000. I think S&W has this minimum advertised pricing going on where they tell stores not to sell it for less than $1,100.
I love how you went to the trouble to buy snap caps and then you’re dry firing the crap out of it. That’s terrible for the mechanism in the gun to be doing that on a revolver. Hence why they sell those snap caps.
That gun is not heavy try a DESERT EAGLE 44 MAG or LAR GRIZZLY 45 WIN MAG now they are hand CANNONS i know OWNED both Earl 90s but the 45 win mag is more power then 44 mag

Biggest draw on this model is the 8 shot capacity. I far prefer the more traditional shinier stainless finishes. Not a fan of the matte stainless like this one has.
Last 3 revolvers from Smith, didn't even make it to the range before having to be sent back to the factory. I talked to one of their repair folks, asked if they even had any quality control folks....said "nope, we'd rather send you a new one, than waste the time checking every firearm".....buyers be ware!
