That's why it's hard to make an ocarina out of wood. So it is advantageous to make the body and mouth of the ocarina separately. The hole in the body of the ocarina then marks the position of the fingers that are most comfortable to hold in the playing position and then pierces them as small as 3mm. You can adjust it by adjusting the pitch and increasing the size of the hole in a very fine hole. The bigger the hole in the ocarina, the higher the pitch. After drilling a small hole (about 3mm in diameter) at a location where the grandson is comfortable holding it with his finger, you need to tune it by gradually increasing the size of the hole.
