Doing the first oil change in our 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD with the 6.6 liter gas L8T engine. Pretty standard oil change procedure. We cut open the original Oil Filter to check and see for any bearing material or any other foreign objects. Chassis grease points are covered and location shown on camera.
Grease that we use:

Prime the filter, less wear and tear for the few seconds it takes the oil to travel. Loved that you had your little one helping.

Thanks! She's a little helper and likes hanging out when I work on stuff. She was under the truck with me for most of the video. I do prime the filters when I put them on, I spun it on for the vid but pulled it back off to fill it. The Internet doesn't like filling with unfiltered oil

Thanks for the vid….. coming up on 1,500 miles on my 2500HD ZR2 L8T and also wanted to do an early oil change myself and wanted to check RU-vid to see if anyone had posted an oil change on the L8T and low and behold. Thanks for the vid and pointing out all the zerk spots as well 👍🏾

I'm glad we were able to help! Be sure to check rear diff fluid levels as well. Common problem for them to be low in these trucks. Even mine was a quart low. I've got a vid up to document it as well

Really good video ! I've had my 24 gas for a few weeks now & since it's a "garage queen" my plan is to do the 1st oil change around Halloween time before winter. Hoping to have 1,000 miles on it or right around there. Very interesting about the grease.....can't wait to see what's coming up, thanks !!

Very nice video. Is that motor speced for synthetic? I am not that familiar with it. Either way amsoil is good.
@adventureandrepeat
@adventureandrepeat 20 дней назад
Dexos1 gen3 oil requirements is considered to be a synthetic spec because regular mineral base oils can't conform to the strict standards. So it will usually be found in full synthetic or some semisynthetics

I also meant to ask you under the LED headlights there looks like a plastic housing that could come out wondering if that’s for any type of aftermarket lights or a type of cold air intake application

Are you looking at driver or passenger side? Pass side has an air duct to behind the grille to act as a cold air intake

Thanks for the support! I don't think it matters too much on grease type as much as doing it on a regular basis. I've had good luck with shell gadus red grease.

1. Fill the oil filter to minimize oil pressure lag on the initial start-up. 2. Replace the drain plug crush washer, if so equipped. 3. Torque the drain plug (18 to 22 NM), especially important with an alloy pan such as yours; "tight" is a relative term. Otherwise, a good video, thanks.
@adventureandrepeat
@adventureandrepeat 6 месяцев назад
Thanks! I did actually pull the filter back off and prefill it off camera. Internet doesn't like unfiltered oil. It also has a rubber washer so it doesn't need to be replaced. And you are right, tight is relative and I should have used a torque wrench. The nice thing is the bung the plug goes into is about an inch thick with threads

Am I correct that your truck does not have the skid plate package ?, it seemed awfully easy to access the idler arm compared to older trucks I have worked on that have the skid plates.

@charlesb4267
@charlesb4267 6 месяцев назад
@@adventureandrepeat I've honestly never looked under them and noted one that had the skid plates and if it had the front bash plate, they must not have relative to what I am used to with an older GM pickup that is horrible to reach that idler arm on the right hand frame rail. Big bonus to have a vehicle that the zerks can be reached fairly easily and unless I am wrong on that, your rear diff has a drain plug doesn't it ?, unlike I assume the half tons are still the remove the cover to drain the rear diff theme. As per the plow prep/camper prep I have seen various comments comparing the ride and get the idea its certainly quite noticeable as to how stiff the front end is compared to the standard torsion bars and guys swapping in the standard bars if they are not using a plow or adding a heavy front bumper/winch etc. Its not always easy to get just what one wants that's sitting on a dealers lot.

Unfortunately all the dealerships around my area are not good places to bring your vehicle for quality work. Have had personal experiences where simple things get done wrong and they won't fix it. And the headache and hassle with missed time at work to bring it there and get it back, it's just easier to spend a few dollars to do it right and at my convenience

That Amsoil filter is junk compared to the AC Delco… It only has 6 holes where the other one has 8…. Amsoil probably just buys cheap filters and sticks their name on it.. Only use OEM oil filters period..
@adventureandrepeat
@adventureandrepeat 6 месяцев назад
I honestly have no for sure knowledge of who makes the amsoil filters. I thought I read somewhere that Baldwin had made some of their line but not sure which ones. Amsoil filters are the only ones rated to protect for 25000 miles. To back that kind of warranty it can't be like fram type of bad. But if I wasn't using Amsoil I would definitely be using factory filters

Champion labs makes both the AC Delco and the Amsoil filter. If you like pissing money away, then get Amsoil filters. Or spend $2.03 and get the Champ from Rock Auto. Part Number: PH10063 Champion Labs makes OEM Motorcraft, OEM GM on some applications, AC, Valvoline, AutoZone, and the Mobil 1 filter.
