The ice recently left our lakes, I had some mild weather on a Friday evening before a cold front was coming in for the weekend. I didn't let the opportunity go to waste. I grabbed my dog and fishing bag after work and went for a long hike from my house to try my luck at fishing.
I really didn't have any expectations or goals aside from having fun and catching my first open water fish of 2024. Walleye is closed where I live, during the shooting of this video, but every other species swimming our waters was open. I was expecting maybe a bass and pike mix but it was all about the Esox lucius this day and I was okay with that. Not only were they smashing the lure but I ended up getting an absolute beauty pike. Not bad for a lake so close to home.
It is a long season and so far it is off to a good start. I am still waiting for some really nice weather. Summer weather is taking it's time getting here. No rush for that, the warm weather brings everything I don't like about the season. Mainly the wide spectrum of biting parasitic insects my part of the country is famous for lol.
