Would similar physio &epidural work for elderly who become Berglund after hospital stay and contracting infection...which left them like paraplegic. My mum has feelings/ sensation in her legs Andreas to stimulation like title of proclaiming but rarely moves her feet or legs since coming out of hospital. She can no longer sit upright without support of stand on her man-made even with help. I feel let down by the Health system in U.I that seem to allow elderly patients to simply deteriorate further without trying to help at all. Shsme. Can anyone advise what I can do to help my mum walk again or at least regain strength so s h e can sit upright unsupported and eventually stand on her own ? Ems/ nerve stimulation? Physio ? My mum is I. Her 70s. Much appreciatex. K
It's possible but that totally depends on the completeness of the injury. I personally have a L1 ASIA A (complete) injury and cannot stand or move much below my upper thigh. There are however plenty of people I met in rehabilitation with similar injuries e.g. lower thoracic and upper to lower lumbar injuries, who were incomplete and could walk short to moderate distances. Some could walk on their own with a cane and others required support. Hope that helps.
