For those of you who are interested in geography, the end point of this trip, Hanley, is part of the city of Stoke-on-Trent. The city was founded in 1910 when six towns in the area agreed to amalgamate. The other five towns are Burslem, Tunstall, Longton, Fenton, and the town after which the city is named, Stoke-upon-Trent (note the difference of the name!) Stoke-upon-Trent is where the city hall and the railway station are located, but Hanley is the largest town and is the commercial center. The bus has the nickname of the area on it "The Potteries", as it has historically been the center for several centuries of the English pottery industry. Two well known names are Wedgewood and Royal Doulton.

A very beautiful evening for a bus journey. We are lucky in the UK to have so much greenery, it's very pleasant to see especially when it has been well maintained.

This brings back many memories. I was a Keele University Student in the early 1990s and remember the old 1950s Hanley Bus Station well as I always travelled on a National Express Bus to London Gatwick Airport at the end of each semester for a flight home. Opposite a run-down multi-storey car park. A very eerie experience at midnight! Good to see there is now a modern station! I see Keele has changed a lot. There was no general entrance back then, the Science Park was in its infancy, no innovation centres, vet, business or medical schools or new halls of residence, a much smaller campus. Only the Darwin building @ 08:25 with white paint coated, pink and blue-stripped First buses running by in parallel to the playing fields to Keele Road junction. The campus was terribly isolated. Not even a cinema in Newcastle-under-Lyme. "Stuck on a windy hill in the middle-of-nowhere" was often the butt-joke amongst the student population but very much summed up the experience. Woolly jumpers were essential. It was damn-cold come autumn! And often with snow as early as late October...

I tell you an area that might be worth making a few bus journey videos, is Gloucestershire and The Cotswolds. It's supposed to be a very beautiful area.

Awfully blurry, must be a lack of focus on the camera.
