Mr. Ambiguous was their official debut song so they really came out and was like "yes btch, we are our own genre" 🔥 kek. But also, I can't stop laughing during your decalcomanie reaction haha. From trying to hit those high notes to being so fvcking done 😂 This MV and song was a visual and vocal attack 🪦 I love the way you talk about them lachie! These girls are just so precious 😭🥰

You're not the only one who says MMM is a genre unto themselves. Imo they're the best girl group of all time in any language, era or genre and I agree that we're blessed to be able to share their musical journey in real time. There are always two official MVs and you have to watch 2014-17 MVs on Mamamoo's yt channel for subtitles. The MVs uploaded by a music distributor like Stone Music Entertainment don't have subs but those are the only ones that pop up with a standard yt search. Subs really help for MVs like 1 CM/Taller Than You and Um Oh Ah Yeah. MMM's early period is called the Retro Era and most songs are in the jazzy r&b style of Mr Ambiguous. Mr Ambiguous is mostly 60's but Piano Man is a throwback to the 30's/40's swing era. My recollection is that they performed a 4+ hour long 4 Seasons F/W concert in Daegu the day before they filmed Decalcomanie for Queendom. It's a great performance of course but if you compare it to other live versions you can tell they weren't at 100%. I thought Solar held back on the high notes, Hwasa seemed to be pushing through vocal strain and Wheein looked ready to collapse the moment they finished filming. That was a tough time for Wheein.

Since it's that time of the year, the slow part in the Decalcomanie M/V is it's own song - Memory - and it's M/V is Christmas themed.

Also can you imagine Décalcomanie was initially charting low? Until the iconic Blue Dragon Award or something, then like at 2 days of final week of their promotion (and to win weekly music awards) the song shot up to number 2 and then number 1 in the music chart

The woman who was in on the prank is a well respected Sunbae to Mamamoo so they were nervous of what she thought. Her name is Baek Ji Young (Z Young) and she's an amazing ballad singer, please, please look at some of her music you won't regret it he voice is beautiful and she's hilarious on variety shows.

Backstory: "Mr. Ambiguous" was their debut song, and that video captures a very real moment where Baek Z Young pranked them into thinking they were not going to debut because they weren't good enough. Solar had already been rejected from every single Kpop entertainment company (JYP later fired the person that rejected her, btw), and her backup plan was to be a _flight attendant_. So that look on Solar's face in Mr. Ambiguous is her thinking that her dream was over, and that she was going to be a flight attendant. That's VERY real, and it gives us a tiny little glimpse into the line between fame and failure in the entertainment business.

You can literally see Solar thinking, "Oh crap, is our debut over before it's even started?" And poor Wheein is barely holding back tears before they're let off the hook. It's kind of a mean prank considering how much time and energy trainees put into debuting, but also demonstrates how good a relationship they have with their management, staff, and crew. Oh, and my fav Mamamoo song is "Paint Me" and my fav MV is "Oh Um Ah Yeah!"

I've been binge watching mmm and oneus reactions in the middle of streaming and it just dawned on me that mmm's discography is so timeless , if they released decalcomanie at 2021 it's still be a massive hit like what it was back in 2016. It was my first comeback and needless to say it made me stick to this mmm shit for life.

While reading some of your comments here I saw someone mention their concert. They are right an a little wrong the concert was 4 hours long an very entertaining but they held a 4 hour concert for three days. Then they did Queendom also it was their last concert for the 4 colors it's on I tube look up mamamoo concerts.

I never ever been into k-pop until Mamamoo and I think the same they are not k-pop to much music for a specifique category and yes they also Bigger than that. This is actually an edited version, mainly the scene where Solar is pulled back into the elevator. If I remember, the original scene gave off the vibe of violence. +1 reaction though. 👍

I mean, Korean prank humour is a bit mean for my tastes, but honestly it's not just anyone. Baek Z Young is such a might lofty high sunbae that if she dissed them for real they SHOULD cry.

I also feel like Mamamoo are their own genre. It's led to an inconsistent discography, as far as tone and perhaps brand recognition are concerned, and that's why Mamamoo isn't as popular as other groups with less vocal and performance talent. So many new Moo Moos have come to the fandom this year and I hope that they're going back and listening to all the albums as well as supporting the new ones.

They’ve got a bit of a harsh prank culture generally - they try to make each other cry on their birthdays. Which is mad uncomfortable to me, but it doesn’t seem to lead to any bad feelings. And yeah...their skills have been craaaazy from the start. I feel they’ve improved, but you wouldn’t think there’s much to improve on from Mr Ambiguous haha.
