The “elevator music” is inspired by bossa nova, a category of Latin jazz, which to be fair is used in a lot of elevators

@@südjunge Well, if we are going to get more specific into what this truly is (between those of us that understand this genre), it’s instrumental progressive rock that incorporates other genres into what they create. It’s just easier to be vague rather than providing more information to someone who probably won’t read this comment.

Song threw me for a loop too. Considering i've heard Album 4 teaser for like 3 years before this song officially came out. The vibe is waaay different than i played it out in my head

This was the first song I heard from Polyphia. I was blown away by the sound and the talent. I would say it reminds me of a video game soundtrack turnt up to 11. I checked out a few of their other singles, I must say for me personally they weren’t my style, but there is no denying the talent. I was really hoping that they had that flamenco/bossa nova style in their other tracks as well. I’m not really into instrumentals, unless it’s orchestral, symphonic, or something like Mick Gordon did for the Doom soundtrack. This track is still one of my favorites I’ve heard within the past year.

Yeah this heavy bossa nova sound is new for them, but I think they're pretty rad for incorporating all these styles into a modern sound. You never know what they're doing next, but you know it's going to be something interesting. Also as a guitarist these guys are super interesting to follow and dare I say are pushing the boundaries on the instrument and popularizing different ways to approach the instrument

They are all so good. Tim Henson especially is revolutioning guitar at the moment. Scott is on par with him level wise I think. The two Clays are monsters as well.

Hahaha, that part is a kind of Brazilian Bossa Nova. I'm Brazilian and long time familiar with this rhythm and harmonic field. Polyphia now is on my Top 5 favorite bands.

The cool thing about Polyphia is that they have a style that's kind of all their own and many of their songs sound very different from each other. Since you've already delved into modern Polyphia then next I'd suggest checking out their most recent video for "Neurotica" which is absolutely nothing like this song and yet you can still tell it's Polyphia due to the groove and the melody.

To answer your first question: This was filmed in the Texas state capitol building in Austin. They're from Plano, TX. I used to hang out with them frequently when they were still high school/college kids.

Just saw them live for the 4th time last Friday, and of course they slayed. My friend crowd surfed for the first time in his life at the show. Polyphia is on tour right now everybody, check to see if your city is sold out yet, I think every show so far has been sold out.

Oh, they've definitely the skill and practice to actually make that easy for them, but there's a cost, in this case outrageous amounts of practicing, if only to keep their forearm muscles in shape.

I think they were trying to emulate a harp with all the plucking. You know with the tittle of the song being playing God and how the harp is what angels play. I may just be stating the obvious or am completely off base.
