I cannot believe I have missed this for 23 years! Today i react to Queen for the first time ever. What an amazing band, what an amazing show, what an amazing story. I don't fully know what this song is about or the meaning behind the song but I'm ready for more. I am going to watch Bohemian Rhapsody full movie tonight.

There are a lot of people who still have not heard it, mostly young Americans, but as she said she has heard bits of it, and I can believe that. I am a brit and I didn't hear any of it until I was 24 when the albums were released on CD and I bought Queens Greatest Hits, because I liked the cover artwork. Then I listened to it and became an instant Queen fan. FYI the CD release was in 1991 so I never got to see them live, and I only got to watch bits of Live-Aid and completely missed Queens epic performance.

@@CybermanBill When I had my first favorite song it was a battle between Another Brick in the Wall(pt 2) and Another One Bites the dust. This was in fourth grade. for a fourth-grader choosing to listen to the game or the wall the Wall won out. I then continued on my Floyd fanaticism. Looking back at the Game it is a way better album than my fourth-grade self had rated it. BUT Queen put out a lot of very good songs but also lot of just crap too.(My opinion) Floyd to me never played a wrong note outside of the Final Cut. So I am glad to listen to Queen but I am thankful for that fourth graders' choice in bands.

Nobody, and I mean nobody, gets even close to Freddie Mercury as a Rock n Roll frontman/lead singer. He is the best of all time. There was/is no one like him. Just so unbelievably gifted. The high notes that you hear Roger Taylor (the drummer) hit during the operatic section are not manipulated in any way; his voice literally is that high. There is a video where Brian May goes into the studio and pulls apart the original tracks so you can hear how the song was constructed.... it's mindboggingly fascinating and clever. I'll find it for you and send it over Instagram. By the way, I just learned that your birthday is the day after mine... I'm on the 11th 🤣.

It is most unusual. But yeah sometimes you know the song but not the name nor artist who created it (band or composer). Also sometimes you hear a song but you're not really listening or feeling it. I always felt the meaning and lyrics are pretty straightforward. At the beginning he is commenting on how unreal/surreal his situation is. He's having an existential crisis after killing someone. He is trying to pass himself as stoic or unconcerned ("Any way the wind blows, Doesn't really matter to me, to me") . I think it's all bluster, trying to act tough. Or perhaps lamenting/commenting on himself being a sociopath. The middle part is an operatic way of depicting his trial, where he and his layer plead for mercy and make excuses for his actions, but to no avail. There are references to Galileo Galilei's trial of course. The rock segment is where reality sets in as to his fate, and he feels sudden strong emotions and conviction and panic/anger. The final verse is where he has begin to accepted his fate and is resigned to it, and states that "nothing really matters to me" was actually true all along, or it's a coping mechanism. His life is over and he's pondering how surreal it all seemed. Maybe he's even going to his execution. At least that's how I always understood it. It's like a condensed "5 - stages of grief" thing - The lyrics includes anger, denial, depression, bargaining, acceptance etc.

@@i_kill_for_zardoz "He's having an existential crisis after killing someone.' No, it's a metaphor. He is acknowledging that he has to be his authentic self and although it will hurt his loved one's (esp mom) he is in a sense killing off the old version of himself. He was gay and in the 70s you couldn't just come out - especially if you were famous. It would have been career suicide. This song is about his sexuality and how he struggled coming to terms with it. This song has absolutely NOTHING to do with killing another person.
@egk2584
@egk2584 3 года назад
You're right that no one knows for sure what this song means since Freddie never explained it. Most people think it's him killing the person he used to be (born Farrokh Bulsara to a religious family) and embracing the persona of Freddie Mercury complete with his bi-sexuality. At any rate, it's a great song. If you want another banger, listen to Somebody to love, live version from Montreal. Somebody to love was Freddie's personal favorite even over BoRap.

The movie is not a documentary so it is not correct on all fronts but it does do a fairly good job of showcasing Freddie Mercury. It is a movie, not reality, created for entertainment value. Bohemian means stylish in an old fashioned way, a Rhapsody is an epic poem or tale, so Bohemian Rhapsody, means "An old fashioned epic tale", which in this case, is between good and evil. The 70's where very different, i can remember it well. Glad you enjoyed the tune, yakky da!

not really, bohemia is an eccentric lifestyle characteristic of some creative personalities, in fact, this term has its own history, but specifically for this song "bohemian" means a carefree life when you don't think about anything and just go with the flow as the main character of this song did. Rhapsody is a type of musical composition in a free style that can mix different styles in one song, which is what we observe in Queen's song.

Meaning? Many believe that the lyrics are talking about his coming out to the love of his life (Love of My life is another Queen song to react to) as bisexual/gay. “Just killed a man” was killing his closeted self and accepting who he was. “Mama, life has just begun” = living his life openly.

I got the "Night at the Opera" LP when I was 11 and listened to this song over and over. I never get tired of it. Freddie didn't usually tell people what the lyrics of his songs were about. He would ask people what it meant to them, so here's my interpretation of this song. I think the first part is his confession to murder and thinking about the consequences, then the rock opera part is his trial, and then the part where every human being head-bangs is his anger, and then he seems to accept the fate he's made for himself. I have no idea if that was the intention, but I'm going with it. I'm teaching this song to my 11 year old grandson now. I told him singing Bohemian Rhapsody is a life skill everyone should have, like balancing a checkbook or picking out good produce at the store. :-)

Bohemian Rhapsody is pronounced; Bo-he-me-an Rap-sad-ee Bohemian Rhapsody was written, in 1975, by the late Freddie Mercury (lead vocals and pianist), the falsetto (high pitched) vocals was provided by Roger Taylor (vocals and drums), the bass player John Deacon (white suit), the guitar solos is by Brian May PhD (guitar and vocals, with the striped shirt, playing a guitar he and his father made out of an old table top.) And no Autotune anywhere in sight.

50 years on - what current band could DO what Queen did in this song? Today, songs are sampling, with some chanting over the insertion of other people's music. Queen didn't sample. They sang and played their own instruments. And they were uniquely creative. And they were (every one of them) world-class musicians. Bravo Queen!

0:32 You can't swear that you have never heard a song before when you don't know what it sounds like. Is that why you said "I've never actually listened to that song" instead of just "heard"? It doesn't matter much, I guess, since you're already annoying less than two minutes in, clearly not caring about the music video and favoring your own little show.

WHY IS IT EXACTLY 5 MINUTES 55 SECONDS?...WHAT IS THIS SONG REALLY ABOUT?...WHY IS QUEEN'S MOVIE RELEASED ON OCTOBER 31ST? The film was released on October 31 because the single was heard for the first time on October 31, 1975. It is so titled because a "Rhapsody" is a free piece of music composed in different parts and themes where it seems that no part is related to the other. The word "rhapsody" comes from the Greek and means "assembled parts of a song". The word "bohemian" refers to a region of the Czech Republic called Bohemia, the birthplace of Faust, the protagonist of the play that bears his name written by the playwright and novelist Goethe. In Goethe's work, Faust was a very intelligent old man who knew everything except the mystery of life. Not understanding it, he decides to poison himself. Just at that moment the church bells ring and he goes out into the street. Back in his room, he finds that there is a dog. The animal is transformed into a kind of man. It is about the devil Mephistopheles. He promises Fausto to live a full life and not be miserable in exchange for his soul. Faust agrees, rejuvenates and becomes arrogant. He meets Gretchen and they have a son. His wife and son die. Faust travels through time and space and feels powerful. When he gets old again he feels miserable again. Since he did not break the pact with the devil, the angels dispute his soul. This work is essential to understand Bohemian Rhapsody. The song talks about Freddie Mercury himself. Being a rhapsody we find 7 different parts: 1st and 2nd act A Capella Act 3 Ballad 4th act guitar solo 5th act opera 6th act rock 7th act "coda" or final act The song talks about a poor boy who questions whether this life is real or is his distorted imagination living another reality. He says that even if he stops living, the wind will continue to blow without his existence. So he makes a deal with the devil and sells his soul. When making this decision, he runs to tell his mother and tells her... “Mom, I just killed a man, put a gun to his head and now he's dead. I have thrown my life away. If I'm not back tomorrow, keep going as if nothing mattered..." That man who kills is himself Freddy 5:55 minutes long. Freddie liked astrology and 555 in numerology is associated with death, not physical, but spiritual, the end of something where angels will safeguard you. 555 is related to God and the divine, an end that will begin a new stage. And the song plays on Halloween for the first time. A holiday called "Samhain" by the Celts to celebrate the transition and opening to the other world. The Celts believed that the world of the living and the dead were almost united, and on the day of the dead both worlds were united allowing the spirits to travel to the other side. Nothing in Bohemian Rhapsody is casual. Everything is very measured, worked and has a meaning that transcends beyond being a simple song. It has been voted worldwide as the best song of all time. This theme was a radical change in Queen as if they had really made a pact with the devil, changed their lives forever and made them immortal. Faced with such a confrontation between the forces of good and evil, Freddie fears for his mother's life and tells her "Mama mia, mama mia let me go" (mother, let me go). They shout again from the sky that they are not going to abandon him and Freddie shouts "no, no, no, no, no" and says "Beelzebub (the Lord of Darkness) it is possible that he has put a devil on you mother". Here Freddie pays homage to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Johann Sebastian Bach when he sings... "Figaro, Magnifico" referring to Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro", considered the best opera in history, and Bach's "Magnificat". The operatic part ends and the most rock part breaks in. The devil, angry and betrayed by Freddie by not fulfilling the pact, tells him "Do you think you can insult me like this? Do you think you can come to me and then leave me? Do you think you can love me and let me die?" It is shocking how the lord of evil feels powerless before a human being, before repentance and love. The battle lost, the devil leaves and the last act or "coda" is reached where Freddie is free and that feeling comforts him. The gong sounds that closes the song. The gong is an instrument used in China and Far East Asia to heal people who are under the influence of evil spirits. If you don't make the pact with the devil, you will die immediately. He says goodbye to his loved ones and his mother breaks down in tears, tears and desperate crying that comes from Brian May's guitar notes. Freddie, scared, yells "Mom I don't want to die" and the operatic part begins. Freddie is in an astral plane where he sees himself: "I see a little silhouette of a man". Scaramouche is "skirmish" a dispute between armies with horsemen on horseback (4 horsemen of the apocalypse of evil fight the forces of good for Freddie's soul) and goes on to say "Thunderbolt and lightning very very frightening me" too much). This phrase appears in the Bible, exactly in Job 37 when it says... "the thunder and lightning frighten me: my heart pounds in my chest" (thunder and lightning scare me: my heart beats in my chest). His mother, seeing him so scared by the decision his son has made, begs to save him from the pact with Mephistopheles. "He's just a poor boy…" Spare his life from this monstrosity. Easy comes easy goes, will you let him go? their pleas are heard and angels descend to fight the forces of evil." Bismillah (Arabic word meaning "In the name of God") is the first word to appear in the Muslim holy book, the Qur'an. So God himself appears and shouts "we will not abandon you, let him go".

Hi Your Girl, in answer to your question, Freddie had just been told his immune system was f***ed, several years later this condition became designated Auto Immune Defiency Syndrome - AIDS - a death sentence back then. Many people push back on this opinion, however official medical recognition of a new medical condition took time, years, back then to be 'a recognised medical condition'. He had a very, very prolific sex life, relishing in it at the height of his new found fame...In my own humble opinion the lyrics paint the picture precisely. If you listen again a young 'healthy man' that he looks like, writing and singing those lyrics...? Not one of his bandmates spoke about it publicly, until shortly before he died having told the world of his condition. A truly wonderful and exceptional artist in a band I grew up with. Still missed and very much loved by my generation.

Xmas 1974 i was 12 and first heard Queen sing Killer Queen on top of the pops.... the love affair began right their, 29/5/82 i saw them live at Leeds Uniteds Elland Road ground and as a massive Leeds united fan that was a truly amazing day. Then in 1986 i was lucky to be at both nights at Wembley stadium just 12 month after Live Aid..... when Freddie left us i was devastated and wept i even had the day off work. ive been lucky enough to visit Freddies Kensington home, i have even visited Freddies haunts around Kensington. Fast forward to next week 30/5/22 i will see the band perform again 40 yr and 1 day since that first gig in Leeds, sadly minus Freddie but the music lives on . The 70's were special times. Enjoy your love of Queen the music is timeless.
