Can you react to K.A.A.N audio murder, he does something I don’t think I ever heard before from anyone else, he raps on a beat that smooth transition to a different one and he switches is flow and cadence to match it but keeps the same Rhythm, sounds like a cypher but it’s jus him
Brandon wrote the song after seeing an article about spontaneous human combustion featuring a photo of a man's legs with shoes still on but everything above the knee was charred ashes (that's where the lyric "A decade a go, I was having a look in a book and saw a picture of a guy fried up above his knee. I said 'I can relate'" came from). The image stuck with him because he was going through some shit in his own life. He had just returned from a tour and found out his girl who he was with for 7 years was cheating on him. On top of that he found out his grandmother and a close friend both died while he was on tour. He said he related to the man in the picture and it inspired him to write this. With that in mind, I always took the song to be sort of implying that at times spontaneous combustion might look more favorable than or a welcomed alternative to dealing with the hardships of the world when it feels like it's at it's worst.
I believe he is also talking about killing his old self. Becoming someone better than who he felt he was becoming. In stead of trying to douse the fire within he chose to combust and let the flame out, let if burn the old him and rose from the flames as a new person someone unlike himself but all for the better. Kind of like he's saying please give me some space while I face my demons and conquer them, I'll be back some day but I won't be the same as I was.
Yes to all of this for me. I didn't know about all of the personal loss but I always equated it to feeling over whelmed by life and the human condition. Like he felt defeated and didn't have it in him to keep on keeping on but, instead just let certain parts burn out instead. The part about rising above the flames was always a phenix from the flame reference to me.
The song is definitely about the phoenix theory of destroying who you are/were and becoming something else, losing your innocence, losing your ignorance and naivety.
Honda civic Tour, I was there but in the sunlight in a different city! Was in the pit and when LP came on I lost all my friends due to the mosh, it was that wild. RIP Chester.
A lot of bands from this time with a similar style didn't age well but Incubus continues to be amazing for how innovative and lyrically solid they always were. Great band!
@@MikeGraceJediDad Whenever I get the chance to sing first to a videoke, I always make sure to put "wish you were here" Dunno but incubus was and still is a bliss.
One of my absolute favourite bands. They have a mix of lots of genres: rock, nu metal, punk, pop, funk, hip-hop, jazz etc. I'd suggest: Drive, Megalomaniac and Wish You Were Here as good places to start
One of the most underrated bands ever. Brandon is master song writer the whole band is extremely talented my favorite song is Blood on the ground from the album Morning view
thank you so much for saying that mental health issues matter and to seek help. as someone who suffers from depression and anxiety on a severe level, i really appreciate you not just glossing over it like it doesn't matter. you really are the man, and i seriously can't thank you enough for doing that!
Your exploration of other genres is really awesome and reminds me of when I did the same a couple of decades ago when I went to college. I grew up on motown & musicals (my parents) and hip-hop/rap, but was exposed to rock so much more once I left the nest. Incubus is awesome and I suggest, "Drive", "Dig", "Stellar", and "I Wish You Were Here" along with the suggestions others have made.
I'm glad he does im here for the music I liked growing up its kinda nostalgic and I like that. new songs dont hit the same reaction wise for me at least.
i always took the "pardon me while i burst into flames" as him being so fed up with everything that at any point he could just combust into flames and explode and would honestly welcome it when everything feels like pressure cooker. very relatable especially in times like these.
Love that you did a reaction to this it's fantastic and for most fans are introduction to Incubus as a band Going on to something that I think that you would enjoy specifically check out the acoustic live version of "A certain shade of Green" Taking a track that was the first he ever wrote when he was a child and updating it into this lounge funk aesthetic it's a jam
They went from having a dj and certain shade of green to floating down a river to a pop band not sure id put them in the sound the same group like rhcp, or foo fighters
wow 2.55 million subs. congrats. your consistency in these vids paid off. keep up the good work. its also cool to see you branching out and reacting to different genres
I’ve been waiting a good minute for some Incubus. I’m definitely glad you liked it. I have been pondering joining the Patreon, but this video just got you another patron. Keep up the great content!!!!!
So happy to see an Incubus review! I follow a few reaction channels and it always seems rare to find their music on them. Even happier to see it well received! Incubus is probably my favorite band and has such an eclectic sound.
Can I just say that you are the ONLY music reaction channel I like because you actually give your input on what you like, what you don't and actually make it seem like you know what you're talking about, not just some mumbo jumbo to fool us for views.
The mythological phoenix: "Pardon me while I burn and rise above the flame. Pardon me, I'll never be the same." Self love all the way, and part of that is ego death (not bodily death), and that's what the phoenix represents (self improvement, as each time you improve you burn off parts of you, the ego, and rise from your previous self above the ashes).
Incubus is one of my favorite childhood bands. I still go to see them live!! So fun watching to you react honestly to this I had the same reaction when I heard this song. It still gives me chills 20 years later!!
When you jumped out of your skin after the break 😂 made me chuckle! So glad you dig these, I’ve loved them for 20+ years and it’s amazing how each album evolves! Speaking of, check out Dig from their album Light Grenades 😊
I always took "Burst into flames" in this song as meaning hitting your snapping point and losing your temper and going off on someone. He also says "Exploding seems like an imminent possibility" which kind of reinforces my interpretation.
How they came at you after the bridge, you looked almost offended, even though you probably *almost* expected it. I *FELT* that expression as you looked at the camera lol!
I love this band, this song, but I really appreciate your love to everyone at the end of your reactions, I think this one just hit me differently with what's happening in my life, but I've been a fan of yours for a while and always enjoy your positivity. Thank You.
Check out Incubus’ cover of Still Not A Player feat Big Pun. It was from a compilation of rap/rock covers called LOUD ROCKS that’s worth checking out in a video itself.
He said he will rise above the flames. I feel this song is about someone fed up with the traps of negative people and negative life choices and is going to blow that part of himself up and come back a new more mature better off person .
I love this track, because there is a theme of the Phoenix written into the lyrics. Let us break ourselves down and rise again stronger, and so we will never be the same. Cheers, great reaction!
Good group. Should also check out the songs Warning / Drive / Are you in? / Stellar (Think you would enjoy those and more from their albums...the "make yourself" album was a favorite of mine.) Have you reviewed and SOAD (System of a down)? I think you would like a lot of their tracks as well!
I read into the lines "pardon me as i burn and rise above the flames" and "pardon me, ill never be the same" as a burning off of ones old self and rising out of the fire like the phoenix as a new person, a new life.
YES! I was waiting for this reaction This song is sick af! Def has like a Linkin Park vibe and all of those type of bands Wish You Where Here by them is also great, but Drive has def more uplifting lyrics
