She came to limelight after winning an Indian reality show known as Sa Re Ga Ma Pa when she was just 13 years old and her debut song Silsila Yeh Chahat Ka came when she was only 16. She has immense amount of Indian Classical training which gives her this ability of doing these runs so easily. Check out her song Sun Raha Hain Rozana from the T-Series mixtape. What a coincidence..I was chatting with a lovely Asian lady friend of mine yesterday, and we were discussing music, specifically Indian music and the ‘Ragas’..a set of notes used to describe, for example, emotion. I learned there are numerous Ragas and they are used extensively in Indian music. This I assume results in the abilities to articulate the theme of the song with some precision. As for this song..I know Dholna translates roughly as boyfriend/partner/husband so I’m assuming this is the theme of the song. What a lovely soothing vocal combined with some delightful backing instruments and rhythm. Her voice control was amazing. I can imagine myself lying on a sun kissed beach listening to this. In my experience, a song sung in its native language should remain in that language and this song is no exception. I’m assuming the ‘Ragas’ are being used here…would they produce the same effect if the lyric was in English? I somehow don’t think so. Like you Sabina, I found myself moving and grooving.Brilliant music, I loved it.
