10 years ago March 2011. I was 14 when i heard this band and changed my life forever!! ever since then The Doors were a gateway to other bands of that era. 60s music is forever mine!!
In the greatest era in Rock/Blues history, Jim Morrison and The Doors were one the Best ever. Morrison was a poet, and one of Rocks all time great "Front men." Dead at 27, just like Janis Joplin, and Jimi Hendrix. Those three were all time Rock legends.
Break on through.... is exactly what you’re doing right now. Becoming more aware - understanding the other side of humanity- of the system.... breaking out of the matrix ❤️ welcome to the other side friend.
I love “The Soft Parade” , “The End”, Riders on the Storm”,”Soul Kitchen”,”Love Her Madly”…etc etc The Doors are in my top 10 favorite bands of all time 👍👍🙏🦋🌈🌞🌻💕😇✨✨
Bro...when I first heard this song my entire life changed. Truth told. I think my very DNA changed on the spot. I was shocked that you could even stop the song in the middle. As for trying to find out what the songs mean...well... Welcome to the wonderful poetic world of James Douglas Morrison. I highly HIGHLY encourage you to start on their first album...and then take the trip album by album. They changed my life. Maybe they will yours too. Peace.
I was lucky enough to see the Doors in concert at the Eastman Theater in Rochester, New York in 1968. And fortunately it was before Jim had begun to self-destruct through excessive use of alcohol and drugs. My friend and I had 2nd row center seats, so we had a perfect view of Jim, as he came slithering out onto the stage in his skin tight black leather suit. This was after the band played for a few minutes, so it was a dramatic entrance. They played a terrific set. Incredible!
Yeah, the way they play left and right. And Robbie - he's so subtle - he comes in the side and winds up into the stars at a soft twisting angle and all the while he's 'talking' - he 'talks' to Jim, he 'talks' to John, he 'talks' to Jim, he 'talks' to you the listener.
The title is a reference to Aldous Huxley's "Doors Of Perception." That's where Morrison got the name of the band. It's a book that elaborates on Huxley's experiences under the influence of mescaline.
"Listen, real poetry doesn't say anything; it just ticks off the possibilities. Opens all doors. You can walk through any one that suits you." ~~Jim Morrison
Do hope u react to: "Roadhouse Blues"..considered one of their best. So great 2 see younger people now getting 2 know abt The Doors..my fave band 🙂🙂 * Another way awesome song of theirs is: The Changeling..
I bought this album when it came out. One of my favorite also it makes me old lol but glad you appreciate it. Jim Morrison was a genius but drugs took him away at age 27 like Jimmy Hendrix and Janis Joplin. Glad you like the 60’a and 70’s which were my favorites as well. If you like that era try the legendary Neil Diamond with songs like You Got To Me, CherryCherry, Holly Holy, Song sung Blue and just so many more. Thanks again for playing itz
What I would hope is that you'd pick up on just the sound. Jim's voice is so unusual and full of passion, Robbie Krieger's guitar so strange and never to be approached since. Of Course Ray stacking his keyboard with some odd bass setup that he played in lieu of a bass guitarist while he shredded that distinctive Doors sound. Densmore snapping beat that always brought you back to earth while sending you back out. We have become a race of humans that can no longer create, not like this. What is it now? Found music? I heard it so it's mine! Please try to remember a time when music was created, not usurped.
You are a true Doors aficionado. Jim's voice is full and manly and sublime. Searching, challenging, passionate, ALIVE. It FILLS space and pushes it out. Robbie so nuanced and subtle, such a touch, impeccable timing, as did John...Robbie TALKS with his guitar. Ray is a mad scientist... an unheralded genius.
Jim did a fuck-ton of acid when he was at Venice Beach in Cali - there, it was his breakthrough in lyricism and poetry. With his mind expanded, deep and wide, he broke on through that other side. When you believe you are insignificant in this vast and immeasurable universe you behave differently than you would if you have complete loss of subjective self-identity as inured through a psychedelic experience. Once those doors of perception are broken, you see life and its experiences in very different ways and if you live your life as you see them in this new light, you eventually find your very own truth.... and Jim carried himself this way with sex, drugs, and rock and roll. His biography is a fucking trip.
Psychedelic? Sometimes you could call it that, I guess, but The Doors are mostly a fusion of rock/jazz/blues in varying proportions, and every song is different. They've used flamenco, and the drum intro to this song is a basa nova beat
If you say you're a big fan of the 60s rock than you are lying about not hearing about the doors unless you just started listening to 60s rock last week.
I''m sure you've heard a thousand times now, but geez, edit! Your levels are more than 20dB low!!! Anyway, good on you for following up on a great though dangerous song. Use a limiter, but it should rarely get called. Always check sound and video carefully before publishing. Always read just a bit about the history of of a sing first. Always have the lyrics with you, not to read in whole, but to be sure you get nothing wrong. Sometimes you should read up more on some songs, esp. some Pink Floyd, Doors, Yes....: Often the lyrics are meant to convey some specific real incidents. Good luck!
My apologies Remi, your levels are okay! It was *my* equipment that f'ed up. I have a playback piece that recently began dropping *it's* level at random. Sorry! Great reaction! You also did The End recently, but it was the altered, truncated Apocalypse Now segment. I hope you can use the original in a new reaction, it's worth it. Good job!
