First Reaction to Ween - "Quebec" (Part 2)

I think what makes The F***ed Jam great isn't exactly the music itself. It's the silence in between. No matter how many times I've listened to the album, I STILL can not tell when the music is gonna kick back in. That's what makes it fun I think

To me, a person who has Quebec tattooed on their arm, "the Fucked Jam" is actually a symbolic moment on the album. Back on GodWeenSatan, Gener opens the album with "You Fucked Up", screaming about how some bitch has, indeed, fucked up. "I Don't Want It" is about Gener's divorce from his then-wife Sarah (of the Pure Guava song of the same name), and we have thirteen years separating "You Fucked Up" and "I Don't Want It" in which Gener certainly grew a lot, as the maturity levels on these songs are night and day. This is all to say that, following "I Don't Want It" and Gener's only solo on the album, we have what I think of as a moment of reflection with "The Fucked Jam": Gener is saying "I Fucked Up".

This album has shifted my perspective on life, idgaf what ppl say abt this album. I've grown to love it's yin yang and its songs connected to my life in universal ways, it's crazy. This album is definitely underrated. This BANd is underrated. The Argus and tried and true will hold precious in my Ears

The album is mostly about Gene ween's divorce and severe addiction, a lot of people assume it's just abstract drug shit when it's usually far more personal on this album. For example, Zoloft and Transdermal Celebration aren't one off jokes, they both refer to the various anti depressants Gene was being prescribed while he was struggling with depression. The last album had a song literally to Gene from himself about struggling through treatment.

Pure Guava would be a great one to react to next to get a taste of what their earlier albums were like.

The album was written during the divorce process of one of the band members and so the dark tones of the album are said to be influenced by that. You could say the huge shift mid song from simple rock to something dark or progressive can be interpreted as a feeling of losing control or being consumed by the feelings you once felt only to come back to the harsh reality you have to face.

"Captain" is when you've been peaking balls for what feels like two days, but you realize that you have 8 hours worth of LSD surging through your brain left to work through, and you're done with it, but it ain't done with you.

I saw them in Asheville last year. Transdermal celebration live was the brownest moment of my life!

I'm in an inexplainable state of mind that even trying very very hard I can't explain it, it's as if had happened an apocalypse inside my body only that a part of my consciousness survived and I was alone so long that I gradually started to lose my mind and now it's just the ghost of what was a human being wandering through the wastelands and this is the perfect climate to listen to this album so what a perfectly right time to release this video

The Argus sounds familiar because I donated it on stream a few months ago

It’s crazy how the end of the last song, having it fade out then end abruptly, kinda sums up the entire album. It had so many crazy subversions of expectations that it keeps you on your toes. Brad saying that the album was “predictable” confuses me to no end.

The fucked jam never stops... you only make the pause longer when you don't listen to it...

Like the Mollusk theres an overarching theme to this album. Like they start off trying to make it sound okay and nothing is the matter but slowly all the lyrics are a little off, depressing, all of that, until the final three basically cement that feel. The music fits that mood... ebbs and flows from happy to dark. The fact is that Gene was going through a divorce at the time so a lot of the mood reflects his as theres a lot of tracks that are heavily centered around his playing and writing. When youre sad, youre more inspired.... sometimes, right? Dean seems kind of on the backburner on this one. Both band members said they didnt really like it overall but i thought it was one of their best. Musically its not as concise, blippy, and fun as The Mollusk but its still carried by an overall theme and it still has the dark psychedelic vibe, and the musicianship is as good as on that album even if not every track is as dense as on The Mollusk, not as consistently attention grabbing cause of Dean's seemingly lesser involvement
