It's been almost two and a half years since I finished the series... And yet there are a lot of things that keep running through my head. I guess that speaks volumes about the greatness of this wonderful world. My personal rating: 1) Memories of Ice 2) The Bonehunters 3) Toll the Hounds 4) The Crippled God 5) House of Chains 6) Dust of Dreams 7) Deadhouse Gates 8) Reaper's Gale 9) Gardens of the Moon 10) Midnight Tides I still don't know if you have finished reading because this is the first time I see your channel, but I hope you have/are enjoying it!

Just discovered this video and your channel! I will subscribe. I’m slowly working my way through this series. I started when Mike’s Book Reviews did but I’ve fallen behind. Well I’m actually about caught up with him, I just need to read Reaper’s Gale here soon. Which I have to thank you for your brief spoiler free analysis of RG because now I’m really excited to read it! My rankings after completing the first 6 books are: 1) Midnight Tides 2) Deadhouse Gates 3) House of Chains 4) Gardens of the Moon 5) Memories of Ice 6) The Bonehunters

Just beginning House of Chains after beginning the series very recently. The first 3 certainly got better as more foundation was laid, but I am looking forward to going back for the re-read eventually.

best - not gardens of the moon worst - none of them each book in the series has a very distinct feel and style, the range of eriksons writing is impressive. i think a better way to 'rank' them would be to give each book a few words on feel/style - Gardens is an action movie deadhouse is a epic drama Memories of ice is a decent into madness house of chains is a greek tragic midnight tides is what shakespeare would write if he lived today etc etc

Interesting way to think about it! All of the books are great in their own way, I definitely didn't mean to make any of them sound bad if it came across that way! Thank you for the idea and the support!

@@SEVINsBookDiscussions no worries - it's just something i feel represents this series better than a traditional ranking, in most series people tend to agree on the ranking but for malazan i doubt there is anyone that agrees as each book is so unique. but people rank them all the time anyway, and as you mentioned with mike he ranks them in another way than you do

I read the first three books so far and agree with your assessment..very clever! Now as I start House of Chains I will think Greek Tragedy.

Well the action in this series is terrible, so I guess that explains why Gardens of the moon has like a 50% completion rate.

Gardens was my least favourite as much as i Iove it if I'm being honest. They all just got progressively better. I can't include nine and ten as they were just awesome together. Most fans pick DG or MoI. And back then I would always pick DG. These days for a single one I pick TtH closely followed by RG. But it changes so much as you reread. Found TtH hard work first time. Second read loved it. Third read couldn't wait for it

I can tell with my reread so far of gardens everything is going to hit different. I can't wait to revisit HoC and TtH. I already can tell in retrospect they are pivotal for the story. I can't wait! But it's going to take time to get that far again! And I agree with Gardens not being up there. But I almost didn't read the 4th Stormlight book when it arrived because I wanted to go straight into DG if that says anything about how much I enjoyed Gardens!

@@SEVINsBookDiscussions haven't even started stormlight. Got all four ready to go just need a 5th Date. So glad he sort of said its gonna be split into two five books series now Instead of a full ten. I would have held off till nine

I know he's started on the 5th book. Before I read Malazan I would of said Stormlight was my favorite series. I love the world and characters he has made for that story.
