I hate the misconception that 125s are for beginners or smaller people. Many people are riding 125-200 cc 2-strokes and posting faster lap times and winning offroad races.
Like 125cc, except when running hare scramble. Those open spaces, no comparison to a big 500cc two stroke or 450 four stroke. Come tight woods, You catch up.
Ive had a 2005 Honda CRF230F for years now. Love the bike, still runs great, has never let me down, but man these new Yamahas are really making me wanna go out and get one!
2 stroke 125cc bikes are fun to ride, but definitely you need to have an extra set of clutch in your tool box especially if you happened to be an over weight rider unless you're planning on investing in a Hinson clutch set up... Also what l like about 2 Stroke 125cc stock is that you know your limits and it makes it a safe bike to ride without killing yourself.
@@fulldrawscarps730 , My friend you definitely need to get yourself a Hinson Basket & Hinson pressure plate & Springs.. And, l also do recommend an OEM Yamaha clutch plate set.. Since you're 210LB, you probably need to get a stiffer rear spring shock for your bike, and stay away from abusing the clutch.. Use the clutch only in turns at your local tracks.
20+ years old with the HORRID transmission that is notchy shifting owned them in the past 2-3rd shift CRAP. KTM/Husky will leave this in the weeds and they got steel frames that do not VIBRATE your wrist like this old clapped out POS.
@@jakeostrander184 don't worry about him. Consider his position, I mean if the only thing you saw on the trails all day long is the back side of Yamaha's and their roost, you'd be kind of angry too, wouldn't you?
Brah. If you like going sideways ALL THE TIME try a quad. I hated on them till last year, give a proper sport quad a chance you’ll be surprised. I don’t understand the quad hate, it’s like saying “only blondes are hot”...
The best comment I have heard. It's better to ride a little bike fast than a big bike slow! If I remember correctly Marty Smith won a Anaheim Supercross on a 125 Honda. If I'm wrong, someone out there please correct me.
Back in the day! Jack Morgan would finish in top 5 on a 100 cc Hodaka in the So. Cal. Desert. One of the Brooks brothers (cant remember which one) won the Barstow to Vegas on a 125cc DKW. Marty Smith beat the big bikes in Supercross on a 125 Elsinore. 125 bikes are not just for girls and 14 year olds!
I read, where a 125, 2 stroke, allowed a 320 pound guy riding on a 125 2 stroke, to jump as well as he wanted to, on a trail :):) Just Sayin' :):) That is SWEET :):)
Like nothing, 25+ year old bike - KTM/Husky/Beta/Sherco/GasGas OWN the Enduro (these old bikes are a JOKE at best) and same crap transmissions, horrid aluminum frames, no lights, no larger fuel tank, crap chain/grips JUNK
I can’t believe that I almost thought of getting a crf125 I just honestly love the sound of this bike when u rev it and it’s a perfect size for me, imagine a Yoshimura exhaust
Probably cost. This is just a modified motocross bike. Retail cost is only a hundred bucks more and the changes are done on the existing platform so there's no reengineering. I mean I would rather have this than pay another $1,000 to have a whole new R&D of a 150
*NO buy a KTM/HUSKY if you want a REAL ready to RACE bike with a slick shifting transmission and LIGHT years ahead. This is going back in time to 2000 and paying a 2020 price tag. ALL of the ENDURO is all EURO bikes and NO ancient YZ's plus NO counter balanced engines YZ 250 vibrates more than a CLAPPED out washing machine*
@@irvhh143 KTM/Husky/Beta/Sherco is 1000 times better and that vibration and the notchy shifting on these *OLD YZs* is HORRIBLE. 2nd-3rd gear is like gravel always has been that way and reason why I got rid of mine. EURO bikes got STEEL frames for a reason - aluminum frames have to be cheaper hence the reason they use it. Steel is more expensive, the reason why the big 4 use it (they are nothing more than NASCAR 4 stroke engines since they sell 4 times the parts in motocross that is a has-been sport) it is all over but the crying. ENDURO is now where it is at and KTM/Husky/Beta/Sherco OWN it and the big 4 don't even race off road.
I thought that looked like a power line down south👍 did a lot of power line ripping back in the early 1980’s around the Birmingham area. Used to be some great riding.
We rode them here in Ms too. You can't ride hardly anywhere offroad here anymore. Posted and gates. I can't blame them though. Trash dumpers and vandals. There's one national forest to ride in La. now. It's a 100 miles. That's it.
Yz125 all day. Superior frame ,suspension, and most reliable engine in the market. But honestly cant go wrong with either both great bikes and people seem to forget how little the bike affects your riding and how much more skills matter
How is the low rpm torque? Where we ride in the northern Rockies a trail bike has to be have MX half trials bike. you gotta be able to park the front wheel against a short ledge and walk it up..pipey MX bikes just don't work well
The only bike I have ever had was a ttr125. Way too small and too little power. I have been looking at yz125x and yz250x. It seems people say it’s more clutch work and really staying on the throttle to get the 125 going. Where as the 250 can be lugged and is more mellow I guess you could say. I will be doing trail riding. I am 6’2”-6’3” and stay around 220-230 pounds. What would you recommend? Thanks.
"All right guys, I just got done riding the YZ 125x by blipping the throttle every two seconds......and man this thing sure makes a lot of noise and not much power". Best thing about the bike is how light it is.
As an off-road racer I'd like to know why it doesn't have a larger gas tank than the MX version. The reserve petcock is a joke on a race bike. Some places we need a USDF approved spark arrestor so for 7 grand does it come with one? A pipe guard would be nice too. Great camera work but lacking the details I'm concerned with.
@@perrinayebarra The cost difference between the small tank and a larger tank would be minimal other than the cost of the tooling. Sames goes for the spark arrestor and a skid plate. Maybe they cut a deal with the aftermarket guys so us racers need to spend extra $$$. "Keep the price low" now that's funny !
Never, as they will be dropped as they are not *TPI* meaning they can't meat epa standards and will eventually be trash canned and the fools who buy them. KTM/Husky is 10000 times better, never going back to the big 4 they abandoned all 2 strokes in favor of these eco idiots in Kalifornia.
@@hometownguy7184 They quit and the NOTCHY transmissions, VIBRATIONS from the 250 is about fun as worn bearings in the bottom end. The horrid aluminum frames complete joke, along with the 20+ year old bike being sold at 2030 prices. That is why KTM/Husky rules the race scene. Enjoy the infamous 2-3rd shift and VIBRATING piles of no counter balanced engines.
Riding an X bike on wide open trails doesn't show me much. We want to know it this bike can be useful in technical slow speed riding. It isn't and endure unless it can go SLOW
If I buy any new. Ike either yz250r or x models. Screw 4 strokes too much money for general maintenance 200 bucks will get you a new top end on 2 strokes 4 strokes at least 500 to 600.
@@freedomisntfree_44 Wrong. All 2 strokes when cold no matter jetted lean or rich and no matter what premix ratio your running. The cause of the excess amount of smoke when cold is caused by excess oil/ or fuel mixture on the cylinder/combustion chamber when shut off previously cause excess smoke when they are cold until warmed up. "Kid" Yet I don't think I met you while travelling the country with TM Racing amateur team while wrenching for them. Glad to meet you.
Why does everybody think making a 2 stroke ride like a 4-stroke is a better thing? That's like saying women behaving like men is a better thing let two strokes be two strokes if you want a 4-stroke go buy a 4-stroke!
people want control in technical terrain and that is what 4 stroke provides. However 2 strokes are much lighter and can pack a better punch than 4 strokes if you're comparing small displacement motors but once you go past 250 then the power between the two or 4 is no different. So making a 2 stroke act like a 4 stroke in the low end will attract a lot of technical/enduro riders.
westwing23 2 stroke enduro machines can lug down low far better than four strokes. The top WESS pros can ride any bike, they all choose 2 strokes for that reason.
@@danhenderson783 Can't tell if you're trolling or you really believe that. I'll try to break it down. So basic form, 2 strokes thrive in HIGH rpms. Their powerband grunt is at HIGH rpms. They don't have the smooth linear torque like the 4 stroke does from low to high rpms. So the smokers get a 52T sprocket or something and feather the clutch or overcompensate the gas on the hard enduro climbs. The problem is, when overcompensate too much, you either lose traction or control. As i said again, that is why it attracts the enduro riders to this bike that you can lug it on low rpms because someone decide engineer the shit out of it. So if it wasn't for this team then people would logically use 4 strokes for their overall bike.
i dunno man... i have a yz125 motocross and i just cant see that motor.. even with the changes, going into technical slow trail stuff. also... total fail leaving the small mx tank on it
@@BrunoXCunha 125 and 250 completely different bikes. Never said a bigger bike was needed, was referring to more usable power is needed. There is a reason the KING manufacturer of Cross Country bikes doesn't make a 125, they make a 150! A 150 is just a 125 with a big bore for more usable power. Its not rocket science, its fact from real world data. Yamaha just trying to milk their MX bikes for all they can.
ranchocortez Okay little kid you’ve overstepped. What company made the *YZ*250F and the *YZ*450F that both won their shootouts??? And why are yz125’s still being used and tested by Dirtbike and Motocross Action Magazines? I doubt professionals would be riding so called “junk”. Maybe your just mad it’s to much bike for you.

There si nothing shown on this video that can't be done on an MX bike. To be interesed in the "X" version we ned to see bump and jump and climbs and rocky climbs...Tell Randy if he wants to sell enduro bikes, he needs REAL enduro..or even real Idaho trail capabilities.
