Desperate times lead to desperate actions, dropping the bike onto the left side works to shuffle fuel around till I can fix the issue. Otherwise I think the test ride is a success!!!
@@tta850 so true.. thats why i would like to buy it as soon i can so it gets max older in my lifetime. But its har now to buy something that will last.
This really warmed my heart to watch someone interested in an old dog still. You are the guy id walk up to at a bar, not yhe guy wit the brand new dresser. Wish u nothing but the best for her man
@@Beastiebunnystuffgot an 06 sportster and a last of the line 1340 heritage softail. My late father had an electraglide brand new in 1988, I loved that bike as a kid!
I bought an 83 FLHT in worse shape than that one a few yrs ago from a guy cheap. It’s was beat and ugly, but I wanted the shovelhead drivetrain for another project. I planned on selling off the roller and title to get some money back, no offers. Yrs later the wife asked, will an EVO motor fit in there? Yup, it’ll bolt right in. “ why don’t you build it back with an EVO for us to ride together?” She rides her own custom 82 FXR we built. So over a few yrs I redid the old bike. 107”S&S motor from a Big Dog, converted to belt rear drive, upgraded brakes, 6spd OD gear set, tons of other upgrades but used as much of the original bike as possible. Today it’s a smooth as glass two up tourer. The 107, recammed for low and mid range is smooth and strong and the old FLT frame is a joy to cruise on. It was a long process but it’s a hobby, so saving the old iron is a labor of love. Those ugly old FLTs are some smooth bikes on the hiway.
@@M.TTT. thanx. Ironically, I actually met her at bike week over 30years ago. She used to work bike events around the country tending bar. I had been talking to her at the bar she worked downtown. My bike got stolen, after her shift she gave me a ride to where I was staying. We stayed in touch until the following year. She came back to work the event, we ran into each other at the same bar , she moved here to Fl from up north shortly after and we’ve been together since.
@@megastick9324 dude you have amazing story after amazing story! I love it! I hope one day to meet you at a bike rally and share stories first hand… sounds like your wife and my wife would get along! 😳 🤣
@@tta850 if your wife is half crazy they sure would lol! We are getting a little long in the tooth now, but we still have tons of stories and pics from the old days. Been riding and building bikes since the 70s. Very Good chance you’ve seen the wife in a bike rag or two back in the day. I still have a little shop out behind the house I do side work at when it’s not too Fing hot.
I went threw my 1986 FXST 21 years ago powder coating my frame from a ugly factory maroon color to black, Decided to look into the engine to freshen her up ended up putting everything back together on the lower end absolutely nothing wrong with bearings etc still like new after at that time 17 years of riding over 50,000 miles. Honed the cylinders put new Harley OEM pistons plus brand new screamin eagle heads and I have been riding it every week or so since, Got to love the EVO motor they are the best. I know I have owned and worked on them all.
Riding a bike like that with old hard rubber tires is dangerous no matter how far. Change your tires every 4 years folks whether they need it or not. Hard rubber is slick as s--Hope you get it fixed up. Braver man than me:)
As we said back in the ‘70’s “don’t ride ‘em any further than you’re willing to push them home.” Good luck with this one. I have my 1985 Electra Glide Classic which I purchased brand new from Conley’s Harley Davidson in Plano (Dallas) Texas. Very similar motorcycle.
Mate - an Aussie biker here. Great story and am looking forward to watching you bring the old girl back. Cheers and thanks for giving her another go, Dave
I love these motorcycle revival videos, this is perfectly what I watch for hours just like yours's and just love it to my bare bones, for years its rusting away peacefully until one day it's remembered and one guy with the ratchet and fire proof passion and will, brings it back to its roaring life and glory, Amen brother! You are doing a job that many only dream off! God Speed! Subbed!
This video brings back so many memories of being broken down on the side of the road. After putting a basket case back together, I spent the next 15 years splattering oil all over California, leaving timing weights that turned to shrapnel on the side of the road, and basically wrecking on a regular basis. When picking up a bike, turn the bars AWAY from you; much easier to pick it up.
Hope you look back on those memories as good ones lol With a little luck I won’t have to pick this up too many times but have been thinking this is the perfect bike to practice that with… let’s see 🤷🏻♂️
dude i love this bike already. just binged the whole video completely unaware of myself ;) and u seem to be a fitting owner for that old but smooth and proud lady.
I can't imagine how good that must feel to ride. I've only had a short amount of times on bikes here in the UK and still considering if I should delve back into it. Just watching your progression is like seeing a beast be tamed once again. Occasionally bike content comes up into my feed, taunting me into it! Haha, good stuff buddy.
Agreed, but will check the tire date code to see exactly how old they are. Definitely they are shot and will be replaced as soon as it’s running again along with packing the wheel bearings and flushing the brake fluids
@@bradqueen8483 Not being a Karen.......just think before you ruin it you should have checked all the fluids, tires and electrical before taking it on the road! Fortunately you are making progress and hope the Best that your bike is a Good One for you! I have been a harley rider and owner for 60 years! And have built many and still own and ride a few! Be Blessed! I am not commenting to ridicule, just comment to perhaps share some good advice! Peace/Out
@@lawrencetrapani5623please don't make idiotic statements regarding things that are common sense in the name of safety. I would surely appreciate it. Now go hide under your bed
I can't imagine the sliding puzzle game you have to do to get that car out of the garage and on the street. I'll never complain about having to mow my yard or shovel snow out of my driveway again! ha ha I love that you're bringing that old bike back to life, very cool.
Great video! It's like going over your cool Uncle's house and he's trying to get this bike going again. Looks like fun, I'm here for it. I'm sure you already know what it needs.
Haha I love that analogy! Thank you! Yeah I’ve got some parts on the way (tires in particular) and an idea what it may need, will be giving it a proper road test soon!
BROOKLYN brings back memories, grew up in Coney Island but hung out in Bensonhurst a lot when I was a kid. Back in the early 90s late 80s every block had the best firework show lol
My old bike haven't running for years ever since the piston jammed but the sentimental value on it is the reason i still kept it...gonna work on that bike someday.
Amazing man ! I'd love to fix one up, I got my first bike about 2 months ago in rough condition and I've done a good amount of work to it to get it running smooth. Great Video !!!
I’ve bought a 1989 FLH sport look just like that five years ago. Complete restoration from front to back from top to bottom 50 miles on it. It was the cleanest bike I’ve ever owned anyway you said chrome won’t get you home. But flat black will get you back
I stopped riding when I was 25, rode ninjas etc... at 38 I gave in and bought an old harley Road King. Feel like I been missing a part of me and found it
I felt like I was really IN the city with your accent and everything. Can't wait to see what comes of this bike. Of course you probably know of Wheels Through Time channel.
Hey there! Hello from New Zealand! My name is Ra, and pleased to meet you, brother! It was the tagline that landed me on your channel, and when I saw it, I realised that I'm sort-of in your shoes. I haven't been on a motorcycle for nearly 40 years. I've been questioning my life choices lately, and I miss being on two wheels. The rumble of the motor, the wind in your face, the bugs in your teeth and clothing... Lol. Plus, the freedom, the utter freedom a motorcycle gives you... Yeah, I got it bad! Lol. However, I'd thought I'd follow along as you fix up that monster and get her road-worthy and singing a fine tune. Subbed no probs.
going over to yourself what is wrong with "her" whilst finding new things that dont work is extremely relatable, one thing fixed, 2 new things that need work. Thats just how it is
Awesome thank you, will try to update as often as I can this is a project I’m really looking forward to getting roadworthy enough to take a long trip with in honor of the previous owner (who is battling cancer for the third time now).
Can't wait to see this one day out in the world and be one of the few that has any clue as to what's going on. This is also the only video I've seen that made NY look like a decent place and not a constant madhouse.
There is a spring on the shifter paw that probably needs to be replaced the old EVO transmissions do that after a while. May not be the problem but I would add it to my list, it usually causes like mist shifts. There is a video of a older dude like me out there that shows you how to do it. Great Bike I am real Happy for ya.
Nice to see NYC neighborhoods from a helmet cam (and not from someone going stupid fast on a Japanese bike). Good job getting it going. My 93 Glide Ultra is coming along and almost road worthy. Following your journey!
Another episode of Wheels Through Time Bensonhurst! Tony Sirico is from your neighborhood. Nice old Harley, this is going to be an excellent series! I can't wait for the Belt Parkway inaugural cruise footage.
Props mate. Love to see people keep the older sruff going. I'm still going strong on my 96 k2500. 2 engines, 3 transmissions. Sitting at 750k miles. Ill mever let her die until wisconsin forces her to rust apart
I used to strip bikes down & restore them as best I could with new parts etc. But as I get older I've just fixed them up enough to use & found it a lot easier (obviously) but also I can use it straight away, not be to precious about paintwork chrome etc and most importantly enjoy it. Currently running around on a 100cc Yamaha that is clean & everything works but shows it's age (& history) with pride. It makes me smile every time I get on it. My restored RD400 is great but the little 'hundred' is my go to weapon of choice. Hope you decide to fix yours up & use it for a while. Enjoy.
Life changes over time, I’d have done the same as you when I was younger… whatever I do I’m keeping this on the road (once it actually gets on the road) and riding it often!
Dude, you’re hilarious. If you were my neighbor I’d be pestering you all the time. I’ve done that “lay the bike on its side” trick before, but never with a touring Harley 😂
