Come along this awesome training video with Cisco. Cisco takes us on the first ride with Charlie Brown. Before the first ride there is A LOT of groundwork that needs to be done. This video gives the inside scoop of all the preparation work that is needed before riding a colt. Hope you all enjoy ☺️

Can't believe how quickly you have brought him this far. I have seen that take months maybe even a year be cause we just jumped on them and started riding before we taught them these things, bucking and such every ride. he looks like he is headed for BOMB PROOF. Love watching you with him

That's the way we did our horses when I was younger and had them so we gentle then tried to keep them ever from bucking and if they don't do it don't learn to do it with you on them they don't really know how so we never had any problem with them doing it really enjoyed watching you though it was fun seeing the way you do and all thank you so much for time and trouble enjoyed it

Awesome video! You two are absolutely amazing. When I think of the old ways they would just jump on and let ‘em buck, i think that poor horse must be so terrified, just sad! Teaching a horse to be gentle by BEING gentle is the best way to start their life!

Nice! Really enjoyed all of this! Cisco and you make a good team 👏 Charlie Brown looked to have a good first ride. What did Cisco mean while he was fast loping while holding the reins short when he said he didn't have control of him? Was it you with pressure on him that CB was reacting to? Did Cisco need you to slow and then stop? What is it CB is learning here and when will he, CB yeild the control to rider? Looking forward to next time. Sorry for so many questions, but watching the starting/training sessions is so interesting to watch. TC and TY guys :)

Hey there!! So glad you enjoyed this ☺️ I love all the questions, I will try to answer the best I can ☺️ I think also something to note is that I was trying to video, Cisco was trying to talk to the camera and tell me what to do. I think at times it could have been confusing because I didn't know if Cisco was talking to the camera or me. But we did the best we could 🤣 For the most part it was my job to pressure CB and tell him were to go. Cisco is just supposed to be a passenger on the first ride so that CB can learn to carry a rider. But CB did so good that Cisco was actually doing a lot of the work. I should have filmed ride #2 but by ride #2 I didn't have to help at all. CB is a very fast learner. I think at times Cisco just wanted to make sure I didn't put too much pressure and scare CB. But if you can join the live tomorrow we would love to elaborate and maybe Cisco can clarify some of these questions ☺️ Thank you 🙌🙌

Hey Randy! Both Cisco and I put first rides on colts. Just depends on who did all the groundwork and whose horse it is! Is CB being trained for a specialty? (I.e. roping, barrels,ranching, etc.). 🐎. He looks like he likes to learn, and wants to be a good boy!

CB will most likely be a team roping/ranch horse. I am sure he is quick footed enough to make a pretty sweet cow horse/reining horse. He is very smart! It will be fun to watch what him and Cisco can accomplish ☺️

I'm really a novice, sorry. Is there a better outcome on the first ride if the person who primarily does the groundwork also does the first ride? Or does it matter? It seems as if there is a bond between Cisco and Charlie Brown that helped things go as smoothly as possible for this ride. Thanks for the video. 😊

Hey that is a great question!! You have a good point. This is the best outcome possible for someone that does all the groundwork first. What Cisco and me run into a lot (especially in the western/ranch world) is people skipping all the ground work. The 'ol cowboy way' is to throw the saddle on and let them buck it out. There are a lot of trainers that do ground work, but there are a lot that don't... We are trying to show how all of the ground work really does matter when it comes to the first ride. Some people just expect a horse to buck or throw a fit. We try to do every preparation step possible so our horses NEVER buck. I do agree that Cisco and Charlie Brown have established a bond. Which I think comes from Cisco spending a lot of time with Charlie Brown and earning his trust ☺️ Thank you for the great question and for coming along this adventure ☺️

Thanks Amry! Great answer. I owned a horse (a beautiful Arab mare)many years ago that hadn't been trained with a bit and I knew so little I never used one with her. I always joked and said we had a bond and trusted that neither one of us would do something to kill us. Haha. I have learned how very little I knew, and am so sorry I wasn't able to apply your groundwork lessons to make her a more well rounded horse, for her sake. Disclaimer: she was more stable trail riding than my friends professionally trained QH and she totally looked better under saddle. Hahaha

How do you get him to turn towards you while lunging? Mine always turns away and I'm lost as to what to try next

Hi! Try starting by lunging really small circles at a walk or trot - make sure to pull their nose towards you and let them rest facing you before changing directions. If you keep letting them rest while facing you they will start to want to face up - looking for that reward. We have to make a lunging video soon ☺️
