My brother Charlie and 1977 yz250. Charlie takes it for a sketchy test ride. We then sell the bike the next day. Thanks for watching and subscribing! New videos every day! Instagram: 2_vintage_
We always kept the 2 stroke air cooled bikes with no idle at all. The old air cooled bikes sometimes developed hot spots and the bike would take off. Pulling the spark plug cap off of the plug would not stop the engine from running when that happens and we'd have to stop, put the bike in a high gear and pop the clutch with the brake on to stop the engine. This can be dangerous when riding on a tight trail in the woods or while racing with others etc. Making sure the bike had no idle was the safest way for us. Just have to keep your hand on the throttle when it's running.
my 1983 yt175 tri moto had that problem it had a base gasket leak and developed a hot spot my dad put it in gear and killed it, later on the simple fix was silicone never had trouble since
No wonder it won't start. You're not even kicking it properly. Let it get to the top of the cylinder and kick it harder instead if just being a knob. I guess it could have something to do with the compression but whatever. Have fun
Andrew 300 he looks like a girl lol tries to act like big wee wee junior in the comments for them Lady’s I wouldn’t wanna be seen in public with that thing
I know this is an old video but it sure brought back memories. I grew up in Clearwater Fl. where the only place us kids had to ride was along the side of the railroad tracks. The railroad hated us and the cops hated us, as did the folks who lived near the tracks. But in the early 80's they could never catch us! I rode a '77 YZ 250, just like this one. Mine was bored 80 over though. The only kind of racing we could do in the city was what we called MX Drags! We had jumps and chacains (sp?), but we had to keep it mostly straight! The fastest bike then was my buddys Husky WR400 but that changed when I bought my YZ 250! He would get me until I got into 3rd when my powerband would kick in and it would just rocket past anything! It felt like the front wheels stayed about 6" off the ground! There were many of us but that bike was unbeatable at MX Drags! Thanks for the memories!
This video cured my cancer, “ little bit higher.. little bit higher.. little bit higher” “the sprocket is ground off, that’s when you know it’s good” 🥴🤣
I used to see numb nuts cranking their bikes like this back in the 70s and 80s, and they always were complaining that the kick mechanisms were junk and always broke. Duh, how about tuning the bike and cranking it correctly, not whacking at it and having it kick back and screw up their knee or the back of their calf.
My first bike was a yz 125 X 76 model. Man it was a beast great bike ..went like a rocket had big gas chambers on top of the front forks. A frame mono shock rear ..steal tank ..I mis it
If you listen to the vid the sprocket is wore and needs a new one or grinder some how that’s part of the reason why it stalled and the clutches probably need adjusted since it’s an old bike and they probally have gotten out of rhythm some how and 2vintage you should buy a crf150 and Race it against that yz259
I miss my 1980 YZ. Had it in late 80s early 90s. A blast to ride. The best 250 in its day. I would be scared to ride these 500 or bigger now a days. Sooooo much power and all out of 4 strokes. Never would’ve guessed it back then what they would have in engines now. The hornet now in cars and bikes are just crazy.
I was on YZ's back then too, (but not a 250 until 84). Had 250's till around 2000 (97 KX 250 the last then), took 20 years off, and picked up a 2019 YZ250. It was too tall, (I shortened it), and actually the slowest 250 MX bike I ever had as stock. But I am 58 now and can fix that when I feel like it. :) The 4-strokes were pushed on the industry by the EPA and governments. They had them made more powerful to phase out the 2-stroke in racing. Racers would not switch if there was not an edge. Unfortunately the power hooks up to the ground better,---because the rest of the bike is not helping the sport. Too expensive, (happened every time with government intervention), too complicated, and too damn tall.
you overestimate yourself bigtime. i've seen very much youngsters like you, who actually don't know anything about 2 stroke bikes, an refuse to listen to advice from people who've been there, done that and got the t-shirt many years ago. These guys Always end up the same. With a blown engine, that is. Or a shitty running engine. Now, i don't mind, you buying and blowing up clapped dirtbikes, but there's lots of youngsters out there, watching your channel, thinking you're doing the right thing. But it isn't. Thisis an ego-tripping channel, trying to sell more crappy bikes to people who are also going to be fucked with some lame ass dirtbike at even a higher price than youoriginally paid for. You should als take in consideration, that everytime you take some dirtbike on the road, or some other kind of bike without plates or Insurance, while riding at minimum 60mph, that in case of an accident, you are in big trouble. taking some dirtbike out on the road, without even knowing how it handles or brakes is an accident waiting to happen. wear the right gear, make sure your shit is insured and streetlegal, if you hit a toddler or some other kid, with that bike, you don't want to know the consequences. Have you ever thought about that? Throw that dirtbike in your pickup, and take it to a closed track if you want to try things out. not on public roads.
I actually saw this Roach for sale on CL in Wisconsin. For two seconds I thought it might have a valuable DG head on it till I realized these guys probably spray painted it yellow.
I usually don't leave negative comments, especially when it comes to younger people. BUT COME ON!!! If you don't know what a CLUTCH is, then you have no right being on a bike. And also, flip flops and no helmet? Its a shame to see history like that at the hands of kids like this.....
Could have had moister in the carb. Try draining it via a little screw at the bottom- when it drains, you’ll be able to tell where the water and gas didn’t mix. Once all water is out, I guarantee you it’ll start.
The cost of that bike brand new was under $1,100. Back then, a kid, with no parental support could buy a brand new bike with a $1.00/hr part time job. I know, because I bought 3 of them that way back in the late 70's. That was when there were literally 10 times more kids riding dirt bikes than there are today. The rapid bike development did not eve raise the price that much, but the 1986 production rule did. Bikes tripled in cost in the next 5 years, and that is when the market share started thinning out. Now the sport is only for pretty well to do middle class families or higher income. I know I and many other kids would not be able to afford one today from our families. That is a lot of opportunity gone.
Lol no air filter = very short lifespan. Especially on a 2 stroke. Prob a good thing the float needle/seat isn’t seating right. May slightly richen it up
at 11:19 Did you guys see a face on the "seat" lol , Also I died luaghing when he said " lets take some pics, now we got all the bikes done " . When its obvious they don't know how to use the clutch when shifting , even going in first gear that just burned my eyes to see him shifting without the clutch?
Wow I didn’t know that they used to put 125 decals on a 250🤣🤣. He don’t even know what the bike is. Surprised he didn’t forget where the kick start was
