Six Flags opened the latest of the park chain's Virtual Reality coaster transformations this weekend. This time it's St. Louis that's offering the alien invasion VR experience for Ninja, the park's 27-year-old Vekoma MK-1200 custom looper.

To anyone who wants to go: I go to Six Flags St. Louis at least once a month, the VR doesn't work and isn't even handed out and the ride is so jerky it gives you a headache. It is always empty though.

Sounds about right. The amusement Park were I live has a VR coaster. But I hear they don’t hand it out either. They probably do it just too hype up the ride.

@@thqmesaepp I don’t think they even have it anymore! So you can get on without it no problem! It is a little jerky though so beware of neck pain!!

@@lan8005 they don’t it’s called ninja now and it’s an absolute piece of $&*$ I never got to experience it with vr thank god I would probably have brain damage I’m a coaster enthusiast and it’s very rare I don’t look forward to going on a coaster and this is one I’ll still do it tho it just hurts your head should be renamed to mine eraser like that one slc

I think once they get VR down to the size of a simple pair of eyeglasses (instead of the heavy head unit) where you can see the reality of the ride but the see-through glasses digitally add extra creatures to the ride it may be a better way to go then completely changing the environment.

Oh god I remember this. I’m glad they got rid of the VR. It took 10 minutes to load up the cars, and me and my friends sat waiting before getting off for a real long time.

I must have spent 20 minutes waiting for the staff to get all the headsets right. The ride was fun but then I had to wait on the coaster while the next train got set up. In total I waited about an hour for 1 minute of fun. Head south and get on the Justice League. There's air conditioning while you wait and zero wait when the ride is over.

when i tried this, the phone in the first headset was stuck on the lock screen, so they had to give me another one before starting the ride. the next one worked, but the video was so shaky, and the headset also came loose and almost flew off my face. i couldn't appreciate the ride because i was too focused on NOT losing the headset. the coaster train itself wasn't very comfortable either. i was quite disappointed by this ride, it has good potential, but the technology needs work.

It's to combine VR with real life movements so that it feels more real. While watching a movie, you watch what's going on, but in real life, you're just sitting in front of a screen. Where as with this, you're effectively watching a movie, except you're moving in real life as well as on the screen.

I actually went on this soon after they introduced the VR and I just have to say it didn't work as well as it seems. The headsets themselves were barely charged so the "game" wouldn't stay centered (my view kept sliding to the side everytime I recalibrated it). I would have been more bothered by this had I not been hanging onto the headset for dear life as it immediately came loose and almost flew off my face. (The ride itself shakes a lot). I wasn't suprised when they stopped doing this a few months after it started. So you guys really aren't missing out. Its a cool concept but the technology has a while to go.

I thought it was a great idea to mix VR into roller coaster ride. I don't get on roller coasters coz I'm afraid of heights. I'm sure going through a much more scarier virtual world will be more exciting for people who like to ride roller coasters.

ANiSH John-Thomas The video on the headset was choreographed well with the motion of the coaster and it was worth the time we spent in line but it's simply a novelty until the tech gets better. It's inefficient to get headsets on everyone and the headsets are unreliable. We spent 20 minutes sitting in the train waiting for headsets to get adjusted and calibrated. And at the end of the ride, everyone is stuck on the train while the next train gets calibrated. And that time doesn't include the time we spent in line before getting on the train. Pretty cool but once is enough for me.

I'm never going to pilot a jet fighter but I want to. This or a future VR experience is as close to it as I'm going to come. I say it's not stupid at all. Relatedly, what do you think of Universal Studios moving seat or moving car rides synced to movie screens? Also a stupid gimmick? Everyone who loved Back to the Future The Ride, or now likes Transformers The Ride will disagree with you.

Everyone has their own opinion but don't get my wrong, I LOVE the rides at Universal. My problem is that these rollercoasters were built as their own experience and in my eyes adding VR is taking away from that. I'm not a fan of VR at all so I may be biased but I rode Galactica at Alton Towers and it totally ruined the ride for me. Was far superior when it was Air

The amount of hate and dislike for VR on coasters and yet they still won't stop. Is anyone anywhere calling this whole thing a "sucessful experiment?" Six Flags with the rage of the gargoyles, the Kraken VR, other parks too??? Just stop it. It is not working, get over it. I know some people do like it, but, the general conescences is nope. So why keep spending money to make more? Just making stupid lines on rides. They could almost do something sensible, like invest in RMCing wooden coasters in need of repair, vest restraints and new trains on arrows or vekoma's, or getting something else not too expensive, etc. Instead just keep with this crap.

+Emman 23 Nothing to do with safety. They also have problems with black out screens, strap problems, fitting problems, etc. I had one guy in front of me go through 4 headsets before we went that took 10 minutes. We were all strapped in for 10 minutes at that point and the poor coaster behind us was in the hot sun for 10 minutes. It had nothing to do with safety. That was taken care of in the first minute of getting on the ride with all the belts and bars checked. It's a dumb idea that is too costly and too time consuming.
