A flat DC curve? Lasts forever? This sounds strange. It shouldn’t be flat. It should charge pretty fast until 80%, and then charge slowly.

Agreed. I had Nissan LEAF... Its charge port was front and center. Very convenient to drive up and plug it in directly, short distance for the cable to plug in.

What kind of car do (did) you have? 920 miles / 14 hours is averaging about 65 mph, which sounds like a reasonable average for interstate driving. However, I was trying to guess what kind of gas mileage you would have to get, and my guess of 40 mph works out to 920 miles / 40 mph = 23 gallon gas tank. For a tank that size, I would guess some kind of truck or SUV, and the best gas mileage I would expect would be 30 mph. Of course, the last truck I owned was a manual 1999 Ford Ranger, so I'm not familiar with recent truck specs. ;) (For comparison, my wife and I owned a 2006 Prius for years, 12 gallon tank, and the best mph we ever got was low 50s, usually in the 40s.)

@@philetaerus My Car was a Renault Laguna 2011 1.5 DCi 110hp around 14.4 Gallons 1420kg its was bit bigger than a Model 3 Tesla it had around 177lb of Torque being a Diesel it could go uphill at around 100 MPH top speed around 120mph . I was actually amazed with the Fuel Economy and friends and family were shocked on Trip for London to Portugal duo to the car only having to stop to refuel once on 1400 Miles trip And that was 11 Years ago with 5 people and luggage in the car

The studies I have seen (using Leaf) indicate minimal effect. I suspect a thermally managed pack will be similar (due to higher C rates) or better.

Some battery degradation is inevitable. What you can do: -Limit very high/low state of charges -Limit very high (dis)charges - Balance your cells. Most importantly one cycle probably won't do it as the BMS has to relearn dealing with a high SoC

@@Scrap-press what does balancing the cells entail? L2 or L1 to a high SOC every so often?

@@Scrap-press yes, I agree. Also you can buy a pack with large buffers (e-tron has big buffers) so degradation is hidden from driver and range does not change until deg exceeds buffer.

The third parties usually use a hidden chademo to tesla adapter, which limits it to 50kw. There is pretty much no other way to use a tesla connector as a third party.

You and Kyle are just too young to appreciate the early ev days when we had. Only level 2 and we got excited in 2015 to get a dc chargers. I didn’t start with Tesla like you and Kyle. My only choice was leaf or a 80,000 model s witch even though I have worked 34 years is not affordable. I had to get a used 2012 leaf . Kyle needs to realize his view of the ev world is not what is happening everywhere. Lots of small towns off interstates don’t have superchargers anywhere close and I am happy for a 50 kw to 62. He calls Ea a chargers old and they are not old. They just started in 2018 in western ny and we got one in 2019. And it does no good to bring up Tesla every video. They make the chargers and cars 10 years ago. You cant expect everyone else to be equal in 4 years for ea who doesn’t make the chargers only the software.

Yes, but I think 150 and 350 kW public stations were hard to get more than 5 years ago. I can only hope 150’s or better are being installed at the old 50 kW sites.

@@brandenflasch that’s a shame. More education is needed. Also, I wonder if it fair to blame ChargePoint. I really like the Concept of a battery in the station so a low power grid connection can supply 150 kW.

Idk, I love Tesla's but if you need a commuter Chevy Bolt/EUV or VW ID.4 might appetizing if you charge up at home & work.

@@tomcat124us The problem is that you can't just type an address in a Chevy or VW and drive out across the country without having other apps or preplanning it out. The Tesla tells you when/where to stop. Others don't

Norway, you can use the Tesla network as well as the other networks, so if e-tron more affordable. You might go with that.

@@tomcat124us well, the a 2020-2021 mod e tron is the same price as a model y. But the quality and comfort is just a lot better in an e tron compared to a model y. The tesla still had the upper hand on the network but the e tron has an insane charging curve going for it.

I believe the choice of Kyle and Alyssa was based on the practicality of rear luggage compartment in Audi Etron as a proper shaped SUV while Tesla has all its vehicles shaped as coupes. They owned Teslas and no one can say they are disloyal to that brand. I remember Kyle mentioning in one video that they both love Rivian SUV which is even a more box shaped practical car. I foresee them flipping this Etron for that Rivian in the future. The main motivation is Alyssa’s trips with very large dogs and their needs.
