Thanks! The goal is to be able to explore topics besides 20th century history (Medieval Russia, ancient China, Rome, Greece, Japan) and make it engaging with these animated maps. I felt that not grasping this skill severely limited the topics I could cover, even though my real passion lies with the former mentioned eras.

1, Japan had open up to Western 'US' influence staring down the barrel 4 US warships in Tokyo Bay of 1850 Commodore Matthew Perry 2, It was a breakdown of communication between soldiers and commanding officers in the Qing dynasty because not everyone spoke Mandarin

By the way, Donghak peasant rebels were subdued by Japanese and Joseon troops in 1895 after losing a series of battles. Rebel leaders such as Jeon Bong Jun were arrested and executed.

It's interesting you mention that the Japanese used the same routes as the Qing on their march to Beijing. Actually, they also used the same routes in Korea that Toyotomi's army used during the Imjin War, as well!

Given the current antagonism towards Taiwan (which in my opinion IS its own state) by China, I was surprised to learn that the Chinese ceded Taiwan to Japan. It would be interesting to know the story behing the Chinese govt. in exile who fled to Taiwan during the Chinese civil war versus the Japanese control of the island etc.

Will you be doing the Russo-Japanese war? Sino-Vietnamese war? Or if you want even more obscure history in Asia look up the Burmese border campaign as ROC troops retreating from yunnan post civil war continued fighting cross border and illegally occupying northern Burma, communist Burma and China teamed up and pushed the ROC out of Burma and forced them to retreat into Thailand and then get shipped back to Taiwan.

Excellent presentation. I'm half Japanese and realize there has been profound hostility between China and Japan for centuries. Strangely, people in the west are oblivious of the animosity.

Something I feel curious about is why the japanese acted so brutally against the chinesse but later during the Ruso-Japanese War it's behavior against their opponents wasn't very different from the russians to them, even you could say it was honorable, like when Admiral Togo Visited Admiral Rozhestvensky after the Battle of Tsushima 📜
@santi2683
@santi2683 3 года назад
It was probably because Japan wanted to be seen as civilized, honorable and as an equal by the Europeans and not as a backward barbarian kingdom like China, so they would restrain themselves from getting into their recurrent game of war crimes and brutality
@HoH
@HoH 3 года назад
@Santi sums it up quite nicely. Japan wanted to be seen as a western "civilised" power, and by defeating Russia they felt they finally received the recognition they deserved.
@GAndreC
@GAndreC Год назад
Because their opponent in the second instance was a civilized nation. The Europeans were just as brutal and in many instances far more than the land of the rising sun when dealing with their Asiatic conquests or uprisings. The misconception that the Japanese were extra violent completely fails to take into account the behavior of “civilized” forces of contemporaries or who’s actions led to the military doctrine adopted by Japan during the 19th century.

Soon the fulfillment of Isaiah 2:4 will take place: "He will render judgment among the nations and set matters straight respecting many peoples. They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning shears. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, nor will they learn war anymore." We will enjoy absolute peace, for all the tragical events will be forgotten, according to Isaiah 65:17: "For look! I am creating new heavens and a new earth; And the former things will not be called to mind, Nor will they come up into the heart." And there is more.

I am Chinese, this is a battle of shame, China's semi-colonial semi-feudal society has further deepened, and the powers have smashed the frenzy of Chinese frenzy. Our first fleet in Asia has been covered. The prolonged exercise failed. We will never forget the Japanese in Lushun.

The Chinese pronunciations you mean? It is indeed a bit difficult to pronounce many names as I only read them, and before recording look up the pronunciation (but probably still butcher it). As for English - you can probably tell that it is not my native language either. Although most viewers do not seem to mind, fortunately.

I enjoy your videos but it's neither animated or a documentary... Definition of animated 1a: endowed with life or the qualities of life : ALIVE animated creatures b: full of movement and activity an animated crowd c: full of vigor and spirit : LIVELY an animated discussion 2: having the appearance of something alive an unusually animated piece of sculpture 3: made in the form of an animated cartoon an animated film
