A childhood dream takes flight, quite literally!
This video is from the helmet mounted GoPro cam from my first solo flight of paragliding.
I did my P1 + P2 paragliding course from TT School of Paragliding in Bir, Himachal Pradesh.
TT School of Paragliding is an amazing institute who conduct paragliding courses in Bir, Himachal Pradesh. They have some good training curriculum encompassing both theoretical sessions and practical sessions. They also have good quality training equipment and the best part is the teachers who are highly experienced and have good communication skills. This makes the learning much easier and fun. They are very approachable and will ensure that you learn the things clearly before you actually fly solo. TT Sir is a very humble being and very down to earth person. He is also a highly skilled paraglider and an excellent teacher.
The team is very supportive on the ground where almost every teacher would be observing every trainees’ movements on the ground and offer suggestions for improvement immediately. The mood on the ground is always positive and often lead to fun and insightful conversations with strangers, fellow trainees and the teachers.
After my ground training and waiting for several days for the weather to clear up, I was finally informed a day before that I would be allowed to fly solo. The simulations happened with Shubam sir explaining things on the simulator and then made us do the things ourselves on the simulator.
I just woke up in the morning and I was very excited with the fact that the dream of flying solo was about to come true, in just a few hours. I got ready early in the morning and got ready for the pick up. We then proceeded to collect the equipment and then headed up the mountains of Billing which is the take off point for paragliding. The wind was good for paragliding and we started to take off one by one.
Pull, release and check! Aand I was airborne!! The feeling of being airborne, being flying, all by yourself - where you are one who is controlling your glider, is something that cannot be described in words. These are one of the finest emotions I have had in life. Happy tears rolled on my cheeks as I realized that I had just fulfilled my childhood dream.
I turned my glider to the left, right, made 90 degree turns, 180 degree turns and what not! I just had some of the best time of my life, up in the air, FLYING SOLO!!!
