First Solo Trip • Portland, OR 

I live in Dallas and when I went to portland last year I had a blast. Much different vibe than Dallas. My friend lives in Gresham outside portland and he loves Oregon.

Don’t make your travel plans based on this video alone. Riots and the homeless have really destroyed Portland.

I dine alone and it’s not a big deal. What might help make it less awkward for you is if you sit at the bar to eat. If anxious, you could try to avoid eating alone during busy nights like Fri/Sat night until you get comfortable with this. But still, counter or bar seating are best if you don’t mind that it could get noisy as people begin drinking. If it’s a cafe or restaurant where you are getting breakfast/brunch then it’s up to you. Do what feels best. I have gone into near empty cafes and had the chance to sit at large tables only because they are adjacent to a window’s view or offer a cozier space to eat. You have to speak up. I have had a server seat me by myself in the middle of a crowded restaurant and I pointed to a better place because there was no way I was going to enjoy sitting there. There are plenty of people who eat from restaurants alone - most just order their food for takeout and avoid the whole experience which can be really pleasant if you choose a place with a beautiful atmosphere. I kind of feel like a princess when I eat alone and it’s nice to be alone with my thoughts and get to take it all in for myself.
