The movie begins in 1985 when engineers discover something strange. They link the device, a flight recorder, to a spaceship explosion which has come from Venus. A Soviet spaceship which planned to go to Mars is redirected to Venus. Meanwhile they are trying to decode the alien message on the device. Finally, they discover the alien's plan to destroy the Earth.

It's marvelous that they lasted alive on the surface of Venus. Anything that's been landed there from Earth has only lasted a short time. The ancients thought the planet was heaven but in reality it is he'll.

Spoiler alert, I'm talking about First Spaceship On Venus. The year 1950 set a high bar in the space exploration Science Fiction movies with the documentery like, Destination Moon. Ten years later this 1960 movie was released and it was years ahead of the competition, that year. The same year saw, The Angry Red Planet. and Twelve to the Moon. I was twelve when I saw this in the theater. It was different, A foreign film. I had never seen an international cast before. The rocket looked super neat. The Venus landscapes with the swirling fog, was eerie. looking back I could not have know about the Interesting tie-in to the Russian blast. The film offers some advanced concepts for 1960, Crystals storing messages, Memory sticks, I did not get that as a kid. I did get, When the mud was chasing them up the ramp, that was scary, for a kid of the times. Imaginative use of sound and animation to create the "Nerve Center". was appropriately alien. And I felt bad about the Three left behind. It was not fair. This is a good print of it, shot originally in color. (agfacolor) although this print is clean, it could use a warmer color balance. Good to see this gem polished up.

It is well worth tracking down the full length, widescreen original version, THE SILENT STAR, in the original language. This version is absolutely unwatchable by comparison.

This is a re edited and cut version of a Polish and German production of The Silent Star (1960). The movie was shot in widescreen and had a stereo soundtrack. The German uncut version is much better.

Track down the original version, THE SILENT STAR in its original language. This print and dubbing is atrocious/the original is stunning. This is no way to really judge the film, so poorly transferred from the awkwardly dubbed, very poorly printed American release.

Universal pictures background music used for their classic horror movies and Sherlock Holmes, I hear, with some additional tracks added, like during the opening credits. The (stock) music heard at the end I've heard in many other movies, even TV shows.

You can tell this used to be a Black and white film...just look at their faces. they got white make-up all over and even around their neck to their hairline and the black guy got a shiny face. It had something to do with getting the actors to look right..in the black and white film. I don't know if it was the film that they used at the time or what, but the lighting had to be set up in a special way too. They had to get it just right for it to look good in black and white..in the old days. From what I was told and remember anyway. Also, this is the reason some folks were very upset at Ted Turner for colorizing the old films that he bought. They say he ruined them, because they look like this one here. But he didn't colorize the originals, he just simply made copies of the old originals, set them back in the archives and colorized the the new copies.

buzz bang It states at the beginning it was filmed in technicolor.
@buzzbang7930
@buzzbang7930 5 лет назад
@@mjrussell414 I don't understand that. I thought I seen this movie in B&W before. What's with the white make up on their faces? It does look as though this was colorized. Perhaps I'm wrong about this particular movie. I may have jumped the gun on this one. If I'm wrong about this movie..sorry about that. But all the other things I have said about Ted Turner colorization techniques and process is true. However, I'll look into it and let you know.

I actually saw this when it first came out- my brother and I used to go watch all the sci-fi movies at the Circle Theatre in Tulsa- for 35 cents it was a good way to sit in air conditioning for a couple hours. This exactly how I remember it- that spaceship design was like a damned hood ornament, rendering it quite easy to remember... LOL
@buzzbang7930
@buzzbang7930 5 лет назад
@@craigwall9536 Yea, I believe your right about it being in color originally. I must have got this mixed with another movie in mind. The white make-up threw me. And yes, that's true, most folks would do the same and go for the free A/C for those who could not stand the freaking heat anymore. lol The theaters were hip to that too. That's what brought in the customers during the summer.

This is a full color, widescreen movie, (shot on Agfacolor, I believe, but don't quote me). I have a copy of the original version, THE SILENT STAR, and it is stunning. Here it looks atrocious. A dupe negative was made of the original East German/Polish film and used to print this awful dubbed version for American audiences. (Crown International---see the company logo at the beginning---were noted for making horrible cheap movies, and importing from overseas and re-releasing films in the worst, cheapest possible way.)

This is an East German/Polish film co-production. Unfortunately, badly dubbed, cut in length and very very poorly duped----contrasty and grainy---as well as altered from its widescreen format. Actually the original is quite breathtakingly beautiful and imaginative for its time, and worth tracking down under its original title, THE SILENT STAR, and original language. Some amazing designs on Venus, interesting perspective sets etc. Based on a novel by Stanislaw Lem, considered by many one of the greatest sf writers ever (wrote the novel SOLARIS, among many others).
