I am back in the Family Car Graveyard. We will attempt to give this Old 1963.5 Ford Galaxie 500 Hardtop Life from the Dead. She has been sitting for years! Can she be resurrected? Is a Revival Possible? Will a 180 degrees off matter? Will she start for the First time in at least 30 long years? All these questions answered on this episode of RevStoration.
Please like, subscribe, hit the bell, and come back for more crazy episodes on RevStoration.
Check Out: Psalm 84:1-7 Verse 2 says, "I long and yearn for the courts of the Lord: my heart and flesh cry out for the living God."
Some have asked how they could send us stuff. If you want to, send it to the love box! (Think of the beeper days!) P.O. Box 143 Porterdale, GA 30070 - Thanks ahead of time!

I'm a Ford man and I love Galaxies. In my opinion the 63.5 is one Fords' best looking cars. That's why I own one. I hope to see more of this car and the 65 Galaxie soon. These cars remind me of the days when NASCAR was still fun to watch and drivers were fearless good old boys having fun.

back when Nascar ran real stock cars not as the all look alike cars today , and by the way how many times has Nascar changed the rules when the Chevrolet was dominating I will answer that for you they never did they only changed the rules when the Ford ( First on race day ) or Fastest on race day was the dominant car

When I was ALOT younger, I had a 67 Mercury Cougar that would regularly bulge the screw-on end of the oil filter and blow out the seal, resulting in the same mess I just saw in your wonderful video. Brought back many forgotten oily memories. I remember being told that the problem was the relief valve in the pump being stuck closed. I dumped the car without getting into it further, but it may be your problem.

Old truck technician here. For number one to have now compression, hole in top of piston or valve stuck open. With bad rings, you would still have some compression. Dump oil into cylinder would raise the compression. As far as timing. Put engine on number one on timing mark. Using 12 volt test light on hot wire of points, move distributer until circuit is complete to the points. That will give you close enough timing to start it.
@RevStoration
@RevStoration 3 года назад
Frank, we agree... We investigated after the video... the intake valve was stuck open and had a bent push road... We hope the piston head is not busted...
@frankpriolo7735
@frankpriolo7735 3 года назад
@@RevStoration And try setting the rough timing like I said. That should at least get it started. Using that trick many times on overhauls.
@RevStoration
@RevStoration 3 года назад
Frank, we did that on this one and it was 180 degrees off.. Timing was firing on the wrong stroke.. When we figured it out we moved the wiring around and it fired... Spun the distributer to fire correctly and she cranks... I moved it around too much while we tried figuring the 180 degrees off...
@frankpriolo7735
@frankpriolo7735 3 года назад
@@RevStoration You have to remember that timing marks on crankshaft will show up on both intake stroke and exhaust stroke. So timing has to be set when Number One is coming to top of compression stroke. You can do that by removing the valve cover for #1 and watching for both valves to be rocking or by feeling the compression on #1 by cranking engine over by hand.
@RevStoration
@RevStoration 3 года назад
@@frankpriolo7735 We assumed that it was sat in correctly... It took us a minute to figure it out that it was 180 degrees off. We could have took the valve cover off...

Hope you don't share in 1 of my adventures: I used to start them like that with no coolant and run them for seconds... until I started 1 with a valve seat insert which heated enough to break and fall out of the head. When I removed the rocker arms 1 valve poked up enough to locate the problem; off with it's head and the piston was damaged. Ran it for less than 1/2 minute before the seat insert broke. Really enjoy your videos. I had a 63.5 Ford when I joined the Army and had to sell it; E-1 pay in those days would not meet the payments. Great videos to feed my nostalgia.

She's beautiful. I have a royal maroon 63 1/2 500xl with the 390 as well. She's sitting in the garage collecting dust right now. With only 42k on the ticker, I really have no desire to get her on the road. That and the fact that her sentimental worth to me makes her irreplaceable. Guys need to yank that engine and paint her back to black block heads and intake and paint them valve covers, snorkel, and radiator cap gold baby. Gonna be fun watching you guys fix her up.

I love how it sprays oil everywhere and instead of fixing it you just run it again with oil blasting out everywhere again LOL!!! You gotta remember all that oil spraying out is oil that is not going to the bottom end bearings if oil blows out of the new oil filter i may be the oil pump pressure spring may be stuck wide open I have had that happen on a few old cars that have sat for a while. One was a chevy and the oil pump is under the oil pan and one a Ford and the good thing about that is the oil pump is on the side of the block like a Chrysler so it would be a easy fix.
@RevStoration
@RevStoration 3 года назад
When the oil splashed the first time, we tightened the filter.. charged the battery and when it fired it did it again... We hope that it is an easy fix... Gotta figure out #1 and the Oil issue..

Good thing that 390 wasn't installed in the Ole Man's Mustang. You prolly know Ford started putting in big-blocks (390 & 428) in '67 - '68 Stangs. Wall-to-wall engine. Difficult to change plugs.

I have a black, with red interior, '63.5 Galaxie XL 427 R code car that I found in a Macon GA barn with only 3400 miles on it. I paid 750 for the car. It took me 8 years and $20+k to fully restore it correctly. It was recently appraised at $138,000. The car is unique because it has red in the outside trim instead of the typical black in the outside trim.
