Dallas had so many great great players on both sides of the line, some of the best who ever played the game and proved to be such wonderful men off the field as well. I will always believe Tom Landry had an impact on their lives that stays with them today.

Agree 100%. As a Steelers fans I was still awestruck by the Cowboys, their players & Tom Landry. There’s a reason why so many of these men went on to have good lives. Some of these kids today are going to have problems if they don’t use their time in the NFL to keep improving themselves.

Two TOTAL CLASS INDIVIDUALS. Loved watching them play in my younger days. Would love to see the nfl funnel some of that godly amount of money to these HEROS of yesterday. No crying & complaining, just good old fashion smash mouth football. If only this same team could come back in their prime & play a team of today. That would be AWESOME. MUCH RESPECT.

Harvey Martin and Ed Too Tall Jones and Preston Pearson and Robert Newhouse all . in the Pro football Hall of Fame. It's a travesty to say the least how white America treats Black Americans Greats to this day? Baise in Meday who picks the players who go in the Hall of Fame who doesn't deserve to be in over greats like the ones I named? Why because their Greats of America's Team Franchise Legendary Player's. That's some of starting from. We all did all these Dallas Cowboys Greatest Coach Tom Landry helped teach them into Legendary status! Ed Too Tall Jones, Robert Newhouse and Harvey Martin and Preston Pearson all should've been put in the NFL Hall of Fame by now since before the 90's Season. Thomas Hollywood Henderson is another one who deserves to be in Hall of Fame butt because of off the field problems is why these lame media Analysts holding all these Greats from ever getting in Hall of Fame! It never ends.

The Cowboys 20 plus winning seasons were won strictly because of the Ed Jones Draft picks from small colleges along with Landry and his complex offense and defense and being able to get every ounce of talent out of the players they had and make them work within the system.

The sad thing is that Too Tall is not in the hall the sames goes with Harvey Martin. All 3 including Randy White were just terrifying in the late 70's and early 80's. I believe if they had beaten Pittsburgh once at least Too Tall or Harvey would have gone in.

Two of my all time favorite Cowboys back in the days. Interesting is that after Jethro Pugh retired and Jones resumed his NFL career, Dallas essentially had 4 defensive ends along that line with Jones, Dutton, White abs Martin. Dallas took White, a DE even though they already had two premiere DE’s in Martin and Jones. This is why they tried him at MLB. Interestingly, they took White over Walter Payton, who they knew was going to be a star, at a time when Dallas truly needed a RB. The expected longevity of a career for a defensive linemen compared to a RB was behind that position, but I loved the fact they went with talent over position because with Randy White, the. Cowboys reached the Super Bowl three times in four years, winning one of them. Would they have had the same success if they had grabbed Payton instead? Interestingly, the downward spiral of the Landry era came about when the team began drafting positions, most specifically defensive backs instead of talent in the earlier rounds, and saw them pass on some tremendously talented linebackers and OL along the way. The other DE they turned into a DT was John Dutton, who they acquired from the Baltimore Colts, which was the team with the first pick in the 1975 draft and was expected to take Randy White, but instead chose to trade that pick to Atlanta, who instead took QB Steve Bartkowski. Yet, with DE playing on that defensive line, they did a pretty good job of stopping the run. I wish the current regime would draft talent over position and to add guys along the interior line that can and will stop the run.
@mastersironmantarmstrong7148
They already had Tony Dorsett why did you say they needed a running back?
@michaell874
@michaell874 Год назад
@@mastersironmantarmstrong7148 They didn’t draft Dorsett until 2 years later in 1977.
@mastersironmantarmstrong7148
Oh sorry i was aware Dorsett was drafted in 1977 but for some reason i thought Payton started his career about that same time. Was his first pro year 1975?
@michaell874
@michaell874 Год назад
@@mastersironmantarmstrong7148 Payton was drafted in 1975. The Baltimore Colts had the 1st pick in the draft, and everyone thought Randy White was going to be drafted by the Colts, to which the Cowboys were then going to draft Payton. However, the Colts traded their pick to Atlanta, and the Falcons took Steve Bartkowski. The Cowboys loved Payton, and it was a truly hard decision between White and Payton. White was a DE at Maryland and Dallas had two really good defensive ends in Ed “Too Tall” Jones and Harvey Martin, but wonders if White could be the most feared middle linebacker in the league. Also, due to a running backs inclination to have shortened careers due to injuries in those days, the Cowboys opted to take Payton.

Doomsday. If you take another look at the defensive line you'll see them swatting the shit out the offence. Literally they would beat down the offense. Too tall was great. He took time off to try boxing, but did come back to Dallas. He wasn't the same that one year made a huge difference Much like Mike Vick. When he returned to9 the game he was a good QB. Prior to that he was a great QB. Tiger Woods had time away from the tour and when he came back he just didn't play like Tiger. It's incredible how demanding the sport is just not as good
