They keep saying Celtics 6 out of 8 ECF, but in reality those were completely different teams. The first couple they over achieved and were led by Isaiah Thomas before running into Lebrons Cavs. Then they had Kyrie, which was a mess. It’s really the last 4 years they actually were led by Tatum and Brown. Of those, they lost to the Heat in the bubble, lost in the finals to warriors, and last years collapse. The only time they really underachieved and disappointed was last year. The other two years they had great runs and just didn’t get over the hump. That being said , yes, this is 100% their year. The only way as a Celtics fan I would have been ok with not winning the chip was if they lost a hard fought 6 or 7 game series to the Nuggets. Now that they’re gone it’s championship or bust.
The core stars remain the same 🤷🏻♂️ 2 stars with a great supporting cast. Which is what the warriors did, the spurs, the Lakers, the heat. Those teams had the same stars and a different supporting cast most years 🤷🏻♂️

Absolutely a must win. Boston will never get an easier path than this. I mean, seriously. Embiid hurt. Giannis AND Dame hurt. Butler hurt. Mitchell ended up getting hurt. Jokic knocked out. Really it comes down to how badly they get beat. If they push the Wolves or Mavs to Game 7 or 6 and it's HIGHLY competitive, then I think you keep the core intact. It's not like either of those teams are bums. You gotta be great to make it through the West. However, if the Celtics get whooped like they did vs the Warriors, then yeah, you gotta start looking at going in a new direction.

I don't care that people say chip or bust however there is no context when covering the Celtics. Last year they lose their head coach before the season starts, Mazzula gets thrown in. Everybody talks about injuries, in the ECF, Rob Williams, Brogdon, Gallanari (never played) were hurt and Tatum sprained his leg the first minute of GM 7. Also the the revisionist history is crazy because if Tatums teams have always been so stacked, why aren't they ever picked to win the chip, these dudes constantly pick Philly & the Bucks to come out the East.

Why don't you bring up the context of the teams they faced? The 76ers have gone through far worse over the past 7 years, including losing their second best player to bad vibes and being forced to trade him for Harden... a certified playoff choker. The Heat had Herro out and they were counting on guys like Martin and Struss. It got so bad that ancient Kevin Love started 5 games for em vs the Celtics. The series still went to 7.

That happened against Miami. He shot 7 for 19 in one game but contributed in other ways and they blew the Heat off the court but they said he didn't play well. Real fans know the game isn't just about scoring

Why are the Pacers talked about so much like underdogs this season? They weren't favored over the Bucks or the Knicks even though they had winning records against them both. I know the Pacers are the 6th seed, but didn't Haliburton miss a month or two this season? That was reflected in their record. They were the number 1 offense this season. Are they so incompetent in other areas that this isn't an intimidating stat? Everything on paper seems like the Pacers should be scary and predictably successful team, but all the coverage I see outside of Pat McAfee makes them sound like scrubs. Asking for understanding, please help! 🙏
I think it's because they haven't proven themselves yet. They don't have the big names like Giannis, Dame, Brunson (who didn't get the recognition he's getting now last year until the hard fought series against the Miami heat. After that fans made a promise that next season when all star voting starts, they will make sure to include Brunson in the all star ballot). I think they have to prove themselves first.

I've just spent the last weeks baffled as to why Indy was treated as under against teams they had winning records against in the regular season. If they can repeat success again next season maybe they'll start getting some traction.

They are very good but they are young and facing a historically great basketball team, even if the media wants to tell you Boston is overrated, Vegas knows what’s up. Celtics are top 5 all time in net rating. Even if Indiana plays fast that plays right into the hands of Boston’s offense who’s #2 in the league right behind them. Boston also has a top 3 defense with 4 of the top 20 perimeter defenders on the planet (both JB and JT are all-defensive caliber and will get on a team at some point). Its a mismatch of talent and if they were to win it would be simple the greatest upset in recent playoff memory, and across the major sports I would maybe compare it to the 2019 Dodgers losing to the Nationals who went on to win the World Series. Maybe not 07 Giants level upset but a historic one for sure
None of those teams that nick is talking about made the conference finals their first year with a bunch of rookies and second-year players. Their first loss in the conference finals kemba Walker got injured kemba Walker was their primary offensive player. When they lost to the heat in the conference finals last year Malcolm brogdon was injured and he was their entire bench Jayson Tatum got injured in game 7 and Jaylen Brown entered the playoffs injured. The year they made the finals they were a 500 team at the All-Star break. I get it this team needs to win a ring but contacts matters.

That is a ridiculous take. The Wolfs just beat the Nuggets, so obviously, the Wolfs are a championship-level team. Trading Bronwn is another ridiculous take because before trading brown, obviously, you replace coach Mozzulla. I am not convinced with Joe Mozzulla's offensive schemes. Why is AI Horford taking some 3's, especially at the end of games? How about you find ways to get Drew Holliday to get more corner 3's to Jrue Holiday? He shot a crazy 60 percent on corner 3s during the regular season. Finally, the Celtics weren't a real contender until 2022. Most of those Western Conference appearances had to do more with how weak the Eastern Conference is.
Tatum against the heat was better in every metric than ant game 7. Somehow ant did what he needed to do and made the right plays and tatum had a horrible series..

Boston is very very similar to the infamous ‘04 Pistons. The Pistons made multiple conference championship games but only got the finals twice butttt they did win one of them. If Boston doesn’t win the finals (like even a 7 game series loss in the finals) they may trade everyone other than Tatum because there will never be an easier road to the title ever like guaranteed they won’t play a 1 or a 2 seed in the playoffs and if Dallas wins the west they won’t even play a 3 seed.
It’s not going to get any easier then this year and them being the clear favorites to win it all if they fail what’s next for Boston? Trading brown makes no sense especially after you paid him a max and we all know Tatum isn’t going anywhere so what do they do ?
It’s not like paying Brown the max makes him untradeable. A lot of teams would be willing to take on his contract. I wish they never got rid of Ime, I think they would’ve won a ring by now with Ime. If they don’t win this year Joe is gone (he’s an average coach anyway) and Brown would be the most likely candidate to be traded
