I agree with Kuba on the staircase to the roof. Make that room an office/library/bar/lounge with easy access to the roof. Seal off the attic>roof door and use the attic space for storage only. Sweet spot and nice view.

I love your home! I love the antique Italian tile floors! I love the idea of exposing the bricks! Those crazy 70s. Putting up wood paneling and laying down vinyl floors.

I’m an American who calls Germany home but my dream is to buy a house/apartment in Italy (where I spend most of my holidays) and spend a big chunk of my year there. Right now I’m looking into regions and will spend time in various places so that I can nail down the perfect place for me. You’re basically living my dream but I won’t be too far behind 😊. You have some wonderful ideas and plans so I can’t wait for your updates!

Good stuff, Mike. I put a flat roof sky bar on top of a villa, but ran the spiral outside and just step onto the roof. When you poke thru a roof you have all kinds of other considerations for waterproofing. Love the cemetina tiles. You can definitely clean and polish them up. The little imperfections just make the floors better ! Stripping the barrel ceilings is a great idea. Good tuckpointing will be needed also. Enjoy and congratulations !

Congratulations, great house! I would consider removing the sky light from the terrace - you could put a nice chandelier at the top of the staircase to replace it. With the terrace expanded and the sky light removed the space would be spectacular (of course it is already spectacular!).

You don’t need to do every room, it would lose the uniqueness in the other rooms. Do put some uplighting to accentuate the ceiling bricks. So excited to see the progress. Those original tiles on the entryway are gorgeous! And you have beautiful vaulted ceilings everywhere that would look great with the exposed brick. What a great start to your project. Make sure you check under the flat ceilings because sometimes there are the big wood beams that you can expose.

Congratulations Mike! I'm super excited to see your progress on your beautiful new home. I think the exposed ceilings would be amazing. I would look at possibly making the door to the attic taller and then removing the attic roof. You could make it a large roof top terrace with plenty of room for a spiral staircase up to the skylight level. Anyway, take your time and let it all soak in. We will be here waiting for your next video whenever you decide to post. Also, it is great to hear about the friendly community and the expats in the area. I don't know if you have done any video on the total breakdown and cost of purchasing a home, in Piedmont, similar to yours or not. But, that would be great information to share. Love how things are coming together out of the gate and excited to follow along in the renovations. That said, don't underestimate the possibilities for slice-of-life content, especially things that are walking distance from your front door... I suspect many others, like myself, are looking to build a lifestyle that doesn't include a car.

I live in Piedmont (I was born here) and my family bought a house older than yours 35 years ago. Fixing it was not difficult. Yours is in good condition. You could live in it in a short time by doing as you said. Showing the bricks of the barrel vaults is easy. Then, they have to be sandblasted and you have to put a coat of special impregnating agent on them (otherwise the bricks may flake off). If you need to partially change the wiring and use a room quickly, you could run it directly over the wall and put sheetrock over it. The electrician will advise against this, because it would cost less than doing the rainures and then re-plastering the whole wall. The floors can be polished easily. You have to hope that the water system has no problems. However, you have made a good purchase. Proceed according to your needs. You can do one piece at a time and already use it. Good luck. Bye.

Wow, my head is spinning with what you could do there. That room you mentioned for the stairs going up is a good idea, you could put a fridge and small kitchen in there to have rooftop meals, BBQ, and drinks, by putting stairs in you would gain more roof space and more view removing that roof top exit door structure, it look like an outhouse! 🤣🤣But, if you are only going to use that top floor area for roof opportunity, you can use the entire section at the top of the stairs, not just that room, the top of the stairs and landing where you enter the attic area, claim it all. Is there a way you could use that window at the top of the stairs to replace it with a glass door and steps going over the attic to the roof? Have fun planning.

Let me continue. Beautiful floors. You might want to use a heat gun. I use a blow dryer to get the sticky glue off wood and porcelain. Very time consuming. I love your home. Lots a fun times ahead. ❤❤❤

I wouldn't do the brick ceiling in the kitchen. Because of cooking, kitchen ceilings often get repainted, you wouldn't be able to clean it. You don't need to live elsewhere while they are working, live in the floor that isn't being worked on. You'll have to change the locks again when the builders leave, you could put the old locks back on till they have finished, then refit your new ones.
