I use to think skate parks were like this when I was younger but I would still go with friends. I was usually nervous that people were judging me until I was gonna drop in for the first time. there was this group of 3 guys who were just stood watching and started to clap even when I would fuck up, the one guy even told me to use his helmet. people just need to realize most skaters just like hanging out, helping each other, and having a good time.
I'm glad you commented this. Most people (including myself) who are new to skating are too nervous to go to the park in case they get judged or bullied I guess. it's good to know that's not always the case :)
Wow I just started skating, I'm 13 and I was thinking about going to the skate park. Then I got nervous but now that you commented this I feel better and feel that I will make lots of friends who support me
frfr some advice I have for beginners is find a good group of people to hang with and you all will eventually feed off of each others energy and grow together and it'll make skating 100 times more fun and just make sure you're having a good time honestly

First time I went, I felt intimidated by the two groups of people taking up both ramps, did shuvits in the corner for 20 minutes then went home. I went the next day though in the morning when no one was there and learnt more.
I thought it would be like this but my first experience was really nice, 2 strangers were helping me and giving me tips and showing me how to do simple tricks, but then again I am in Canada
Lol the reason I don't want to learn how to do stuff at the skate park bc I get judged and called a poser even though I keep to myself and don't say anything to anyone lol im just trying to learn things and have fun
AgentPickle just dont care about it, u know everyone that skates started somewhere and all those stupid skaters that are good and by being good they judge other people are shit and they are just adult with child brain, just remember that those people when they started were also bad at skating but by training u can become something in the future, when i started skating 6 years ago i couldnt even go on the skate and now i train for 4 hours and i do flips, jump stairs and many other tricks, and many people laughed at me when i started but i never cared cause i know they were just like anyone else when they started, if u let the thoghts of idiots overtake u, u wont be able to be what u want, so just think u are alone and skate, goodlu k👍🏻
AgentPickle and do it now cause later when u are 80 or 90 years old u will be looking outside the window and thinking, "what could i have done if i didnt care about those people that judged me when i was skating ".
i used to think this until i went to this skatepark and there was a group of kids just watching me, even if i would do terrible they would still encourage me to keep going one dude taught me and now i owe my skill to him
yea my friend wanted me to go cause with him cause he was nervous and there was a bunch of people there trying to teach him but there was one guy saying "get out of here you no skill fuck" then argued but my friend was backed up by the good skaters

Most skaters are supportive and will even help and be there for new skaters. It’s less common to find assholes than it is to find a chill group of skaters.
lol this is one of the reason why i decided not to go a skatepark, been skating for like 6 weeks and still try to improve on my ollies, damn its quite frustrating, even worst when you have no skate friends, but will surely get there.
+Joseph Fingerstyle the biggest step for me was realizing that it doesnt matter what other people think and they were all at your level at some point, once you get past that it really starts to become enjoyable .
+Joseph Fingerstyle Same no skate friends ;~; and the only other skater in my neighborhood is a dick, and sits and shit talks me about how I can't ollie, but when he tries he just barely does an ollie and then when I got good at doing ollies I am trying to ollie up a curb but I get scared and kick out and he says how he can do it, but when he tried he didn't even make it up the curb, #noskatefriends
Literally my first year experience of skating in a nutshell 😅 luckily when I picked up the courage to go to the skatepark everyone else was trying new tricks, falling over so no one gave me much notice.
LOL The drop-in part couldn't have been closer to the truth. I have no trouble doing stupid stuff while on the board and get some legit flips off but ramps still scare me to this day.
I hate people that call others posers just because they barely started skating and are learning. There are posers out there that dont even use their board just carry it around, now thats a poser. Everyone was at this point in the beginning, you cant start off doing everything.
One of my pet peeves is when a person wears all skateboard branded clothes with the newest pro skateboard setup and talks just like a skater but just walks around with his board. And of course their favourite skater is Ryan Sheckler.
The Illuminati I used to be into skating, but for the last three years I haven't even touched a board. Though I do not skate, I wear skate shoes. Why? Because they look sick. I'm not gonna wear some ugly fucking running shoes simply because I don't skate. It's just like saying "If you don't play basketball, don't wear Jordan's", it's idiotic to me.
this was the complete opposite of me at my first time. my first day i met some kids slightly younger than me who were really nice to me and teached me some stuff. and they knew i was a complete newbie, and told me im a quick learner cause i was already going up ramps and stuff.

DiligentDrew Get comfortable skating in general first. Skate as often as you can and anywhere you can. Learn some tricks on flatground until you're comfortable with them. You gain confidence that way and your joy will overtake your nerves. I'm 20 and I just started skating again and at the end of the day, you're your worst enemy. Don't think too much, just get out and skate. Once you are, the anxiety will fade away.
I just started 7 months ago and I've never encountered anything like this at a park. Go with some friends if you're too anxious about it. Don't take it too serious or you won't have fun. If you're just starting out a park isn't a great place to start learning. A nice empty parking lot works fine :P
+DiligentDrew I just started skating again after a looong break. What I'm doing is practicing my tricks at home. There really isn't a reason to go to a skatepark when you can't do any tricks. The only thing you'd do there is be in the way of others. Once I'm able to do an ollie, FS 180, BS 180 and maybe a pop shove it I'll go to a skatepark so I can practice grinding and that stuff. Until then, I'll just stay home where I can practice without anyone judging me or being annoyed :)
+MrTubanator I agree with this the place that I went all the skaters where actually really cool and helped me a little. As long as you don't get in anybody's way and don't look like a poser nobody will bother you they are too busy trying to skateboard rather than criticize you.

Alot of people actually feel alot more comfortable around beginners, me included, even tho I am more experienced, I still get anxiety, but when I see newbies at the skatepark I feel better ablut myself and feel like befriending them and teaching them, its honestly my favourite part of going to the skatepark.....

Anybody elses first go at the skatepark scary but then some random guy comes up to u and helps you and talks to you and all of a sudden u feel ten times better. At my first time i was on the mini and i was struggling and this dude came up to me and was helping me out with dropping in and I know it is probably one of the main reasons i keep on skating. The community

I don't see this a lot at my skatepark. A lot of the pros give tips when asked or just do their own thing. I guess it gets annoying when newer skaters start bombarding questions that are self explanatory.
Then again, it's kind of like how people view freshman. We were all there, but once you're a sophomore, a lot of us hate freshmen because they're annoying.
I dont get what's wrong with mall grabbing. I mean , for a practical point of view , you might not need to carry your board around the park like that because you'll probably be riding it for the most part , but having to carry it for long distance , i think its the comfiest way to grab it
It is kind of practical, its more for long distances it can rub on your pants. but i think its actually almost a "secret signal" in a way to symbolise the new/poser skaters from the real ones
