I hope everyone had a great Christmas and new years. In todays video we talk about something that I need to work on lol, especially in traffic 😂 Sub to the personal channel here: / @michaelvaim
We don’t have a snow problem in south Florida but we have plenty of terrible drivers. All I can say is something my psychologist told me that helps tremendously is when you start getting angry, don’t say anything and remain silent. The more you talk and cuss, the more angry you become. Works miracles for me! Maybe you could get winter tires for your trip to be safe 🙏
Yep, literally the worst drivers I have ever seen. I remember I was at a conference in Fort Lauderdale one year and I asked this one girl why it was so bad there and she said it's because everyone comes from these shitty countries and brings their shitty driving habits with them. LOL
I switch my tires after Thanksgiving roughly. As soon as it's consistently 40 degrees or below I switch, I'm in Pittsburgh too lol. Drove through that storm twice to go get food and had no issues
Mike, so sorry to find out that you and the wife have separated. You guys always seemed to have such a good time together. Best of luck and good wishes for the coming year.
Mike, when stuck in the "ruts" of snow driving, stay out of the paths of other cars, aim for the new untouched snow, better traction, even in the AMG. . Always admired your language ability, speaking your non native language so well. Keep working.
Doesn't help a lot of PA hasn't gotten but a coating in two years, we had snow here in Philly a good coating and it was a mad house people's brains just turn off. You see AWD vehicles in the ditches while I'm cruising in my FWD Sonata with tires that are nearing replacement but I got around fine because I grew up in this crap and with RWD and no snow tires lol. All about the experience!
Dude, I feel you! With those fat tires and summer and only RWD, geez. I don't even want to drive my Range Rover TDV8 4WD on my 22" all weather in such weather! Hero! Bra jobbat!
Winter tires are a must. You can get some performance winters from Continental, Michelin, Pirelli. Well worth it, especially if you are going on a road trip. It's winter, weather is always unpredictable. Will save mileage on the Summer tires and you'll be safer on the road.
Even if you only use them once, it's absolutely worth buying a set of studded winter tires. Made a significant difference on my 2005 C230 Kompressor Coupe.
I remember a snow storm 5-6 years ago in Massachusetts where the same thing happened to me. I was driving my 2012 Mustang GT with a staggered summer tire set-up. I didn't check the weather for a few days and found my self driving, if you can call it that, home in 2-3 inches of slop. It was by far the must frustrating/scary driving experience of my life. All you can do is drive slow and hope that you can get enough traction to make it home. well done man! its not easy.
“Don’t want to get stuck in the middle of nowhere” That sounds like great content!! “Benz stuck in a snow storm in the middle of nowhere” sounds like RU-vid gold!
The issue isn’t the fact that it’s rwd. You need better tires. With better tires, you would’ve been set. I drove my m3 through a snow storm a few years ago. The roads were way worse. I was on winter tires and I was doing better than AWD cars with all seasons. It’s all about the tires. Get better tires and you’d be fine.
Man could I feel that stress during the drive home. For those of you who have never been to Pittsburgh and know where Mike's apartment is up there on Duquesne Heights overlooking the stadiums, the Fort Pitt Bridge and the city, you will have no idea how steep the hills are to get where he got to. It's not even that easy on dry roads let alone with a heavy wet snow falling while driving a rear wheel drive car with summer tires. Glad you made it back to the crib in one piece. That was a REALLY stressful drive.
Driving in the snow is the ultimate stress inducer ugh. Even worse when the vehicle you’re driving isn’t equipped correctly lol. Confidence is King my friend 😎
I'm from Toronto Canada and this snow fall is peanuts to what we get. My 2005 Camry still can get the job done. 19 years and still running. Snow tires do help but this level of snow shouldn't compromise it's ability. RWD seems to be the culprit.
I feel your frustration! you have to get legit snow tires, especially with rear wheel drive. You will be amazed how good they are these days. Thanks for the video!
Thank you for the ride along. Growing up in western Pennsylvania around the Pittsburgh area I miss all of this drama. I actually like driving in the snow and the challenges that come with it.
That was a white knuckle adventure! Been there done that lol. When i was 19 (im 42) I tried to brave winter weather driving in a new at the time mustang gt lol. Bad move.😂
I am so glad I'm retired. I don't leave the house in bad weather. I drove 25 miles to my daughter's in a snow storm and it took me 2.5 hours. Never again!!!
Watching that V12 Mercedes having that much trouble to get anywhere with that snow is the reason why I would only own a truck or a Jeep with 4x4 if I lived somewhere where it snows, so that this wouldn't ever happen to me! 😮
I was out in your new stomping grounds Saturday too. What a cluster fuck Mt Washington was. I must've been on woodruff 5-10 mins before you, cause the cop was just pulling up to that focus hatchback that slid off the road. It's been a while since I saw a squall like that mess up the roads so quickly. And generally it doesn't seem to snow in pittsburgh much anymore. Thankfully I bought snow tires this year for the first time in probably 4-5 winters. What a difference maker. Glad you made it home
I had a similar incident in my first AMG a 1991 560SEL (Original Old School) riding on 255 Dunlop D40M2 Tires mounted on Ronal R9's. The difference was I was 90 miles from home and had to travel North into even colder and worsening conditions. Needless to say, it was the last time I ever endured that (I went to Continental Blizzaks for winter tires and started installing them in early November rather than chance it again). Also since then I've been fortunate enough to add winter cars to my garage Ml55, and later on ML63 etc. Problem solved.
That Yukon may have only been RWD or had crappy tires. There are some crazy hilly areas even when it doesn't snow and getting up is a challenge with FWD. Be careful out there and no accidents 👍👍
If you travel through Tennessee in January your worst luck would be around the TN/VA line on I-81 or the TN/KY line on I-75 or I-65. Those are kind of notorious for getting shut down due to winter storms, especially I-81. Once you’re south of Morristown in East TN or from Nashville and south in Middle TN, then you’re pretty much in the clear. Only other places you’d struggle around here are if you’re trying to go into Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg or across the Smokies on I-40 into western North Carolina.
I’ve always had a 4WD or AWD vehicle for days like that. Sports cars are fun and all, but they’re just not setup for everyday use in some parts of the country. My sports car sits in the garage for half the Winter & the Chevy truck hits the roads; way more confidence & grip with some A/T tires.
@@bkeen7013I’ve owned 7 of them over the course of my life, none of which ever had any issues. You wouldn’t know much about them, however, as you’ve never actually owned one.
Has the US no winter tires ? That's a normal thing to put WT on your car from Nov to March .. In europe you have no insurance coverage when you drive like that in winter .. and you get a fine when they see you like that ... Every car has a set of 8 tires in germany... for a good reason .. But perhaps the USA is different 😶 But perhaps it would be a good idea ... 😅
Summer tires are extremely dangerous in not only snow, but cold weather in general. The rubber compound is not suitable for the cold and loses all traction. You need to throw some winter or all season shoes on the S65. I think the S stands for stuck. Good luck, Mike. I’m in Michigan and we have zero snow, in fact we got 1 1/2” of rain yesterday and 43°. We’ve had no measurable snow and I’m fine with it.
Yeah I'm in Michigan and I have winter and summer tires for my focus ST and for my wife's car we have winter and all season tires and it makes a huge difference. Thanks for the update!
I put continental DSW 06 on my rear wheel benz and it changed my life 😂 Also with the Continentals i was able to keep my 20 inch staggered low profiles on the car and ride better than alot of 4wd cars.
c'mon Mike...they've been telling us for days that the snow was coming.....!!! But glad you made it. Rear wheel MBs and those soft tires are not good at all on snow.
Bro with that car you need two sets of tires. One for your Spring thru Fall and a set of winter or all seasons for winter if you are going to take the AMG out any :D Man that was stressful just to watch. lol.
I can feel your overall frustration. More than you can say. You probably try to push it away and not dealing with it enough, but it's always there. New life, new situations... what will the future bring? Besides that there is now so much competition with car vlogs... and everyone is always bigger, faster, more expensive.... BAM BAM BAM. I totally understand that this add pressure too. You are very private in your videos, but the real life happens when you turn off the cam. I hope you'll find happiness again... and soon. The link to your private channel is not working 🙂
So true. A bunch of people can’t drive in bad weather. I wish everyone could drive in the country in the winter every year. Just so they can figure out how to drive. Because it seems that city folks can’t handle it
Grew up in south hills area, got stuck plenty of times, until I bought a brand new 79 Chev Blazer, it was on like hot buttered popcorn!!!! Lots of winter snow fun…. Weather app Mike, “MyRadar” is great to utilize just saying, love the snow footage, living in Virginia Beach, snow may occur between late Jan to mid February, waiting for the SNOW or at least hopeful!
I know the struggles of the Pittsburgh hills all to well. The snow did cover the roads extremely fast. I'm an Uber driver in Pittsburgh so I can confirm the drivers your talking about lol
Snow tyres will solve the problem. Actually you should've change the tyres when temp is below 7 degress C. Any damage to the vehicle will cost more than set of snow tyres.
Hey Mike this is the law enforcement, we have you on camera running multiple red lights and stop signs. When the snow melts, you're gonna need to donate your car to the police force or suffer a massive fine. This is not negotiable. I need your car...I mean the law enforcement needs your car. =P
