I believe Korn is considered nu metal, similar to Slipknot, Limp Bizkit, and Linkin Park.

I was not a big Korn fan, but I was in 12 grade when it came out, and it was like an undisclosed anthemed for my graduating class. Everyone from the goth kids, the preppy kids, the jocks, cheerleaders, nerds, geeks, etc, black white, asian, hispanic, everyone knew and would jam out to this song when it would be played. It was insane when you think about it, but it was cool for the times.

My buddy really liked them, would blast them whenever he got the chance. for me at the time, it was "okay", and more or less just put up with it because he was my buddy. I liked this song better today, than I did then. Hope you're clean now George, and being a Good Father.

The music scene in Korn's hometown of Bakersfield, CA is fascinating to me. Nu metal is the second variation on a genre that city has given birth to. The first is the Bakersfield Sound variation of country music. Pioneered by Buck Owens, it has a bit of an edge you don't get out of Nashville. I think they amped the Western part of country & western back up a bit. Anyone reading this who is of a certain age and American may remember Hee-Haw, Buck Owens' TV show that promoted his sound and its artists. You seeing episodes of Hee-Haw would be priceless, Diane!!!

I don't listen to them much any more, but I have to credit Korn for being the biggest influence in me becoming a musician. I remember them being featured on Beavis & Butthead in the mid 90's when I was maybe 11 or 12, and thinking I had never heard anything like them before. And yeah, this video blew everyone away back then. It was also a big deal amongst angsty teens because the artist who did the beginning and end animation (as well as the artwork for the album) was Todd McFarlane, who had become famous for illustrating a lot of Spider-Man comics, as well as founding his own publication company (Image) and creating/illustrating the character Spawn, whom I was obsessed with back then.

ROFLMAO, Irish Girl! While I've heard this song many times before on radio, had never seen the video before. So, I've learned to go watch that vid first, then I'm not distracted watching your reaction. Your expressions are just uproariously entertaining, Diane! I really don't think my facial muscles are capable of what you can do. Just remember: "Duck!" always look to "dodge the bullet". Yes, those entertainment industries are similarly slimy. There are still so many artists to explore, and genres not even mentioned yet. This journey is just so much fun, looking forward to the next one. It's been a year now, 50 videos on and you've only picked up a "handful of sand from the modern music beach".

Happy Thursday Diane. Another good reaction. I just never have been able to get into this genre of music lol. I was snacking on some Fritos BBQ corn chips when I saw a new vid pop up. I remember on one video you said that you liked the Fritos corn chips. Corn chips have always been one of my favorite snacks. If you haven’t tried the BBQ flavored ones, they are good. Fritos quit with the BBQ kind for a long time, now they have brought them back, at least for the time being lol.

Great song and video - definitely Korn at the peak of their powers. “Got the Life” from the same album is also a cool song with a good video. This was late high school for me, so I definitely have a connection to it and some of their other stuff from around the same time. IMO they’re a “greatest hits” type of band. Plenty of good songs, but inconsistent albums.

This came out when I was around 12 years old and in middle school in a small US southern town, but I remember this band (and similar ones) being really popular with some high schoolers. Not my scene, but it was not a band I would not change the radio station if their music came on.

I like @davidwillford3119's definition - Nu Metal. Never was a huge fan, but they popup in my workout music often enough because of the energy they give off. I was more into the 80s metal and then the 60/70s as I got into high school. Now I listen to everything from Amadeus to zydeco. Some days just require a Caribbean-vibe, while dinner is a nice background jazz quartet. Cooking (which I love to do) music is dependent on my mood but usually falls into the 40s big band stuff like Tommy Dorsey. I'm enjoying the variety in your selections for the adventure through music. Cheers Diane! 💚

Korn when they signed their first record contract they released this song. It was the Lead's displeasure at being told what to do, and being forced to the whims of the executives literally becoming a freak on a leash. They fortunately signed with a different company a year later and in the new contract they had full freedom to do what they wanted and release music on their terms. it was a new era of the stars dictating their contracts and how a record label could be happy with it.

I actually like Korn quite a bit. I like an eclectic amount of music. Would love to see your take on Darci Carlson! She's considered Outlaw Country, but also did some rockabilly & other stuff. Super talented!

Thats not their only GRAMMY, they also won Best Metal Performance for Here To Stay in the 2003 awards and were nominated 8 times in total.
