Anyone who gives Taylor an honest chance and takes her art seriously will ALWAYS receive a warm welcome from the Swifties. We appreciate you too. One of the best things about Taylor is how versatile and experimental she is - she's always growing as an artist and it's so much fun to be on the ride. Next should def be I Did Something Bad and then Don't Blame Me from this tour. Yes, you absolutely can be "honorary" or just regular old Swifties, even if you've only listened to 2 songs (haha). You gave your first 10 to Taylor Swift - that's all I need to induct you into the Swiftdom.

As a man in my mid 50's (who was introduced to Taylor by son during RED era), it is always a joy to see people discover Taylor Swift. Her songwriting is top tier and she is an incredible live performer. What makes us call ourselves Swifties is who she is as a person. Enjoy your journey, gents, I know I have enjoyed mine. You know I am middle-aged too. I just turned 46 and I mean I’ve kind of listened to her clear through, but I became a Swifty. I guess around folklore evermore because the craziness of her releasing two albums in six months, and I kinda got into it during reputation because I started watching a bunch of fan videosand then all the craziness with Joe and her breaking up and her dating the guy from the 1975 and and Travis Kelce it’s been an action pack year

@@HPReact Do y’all remember the 2010s when it was common for news AND entertainment media to do countdown to actress’s and singers’ 18th birthday, speculate on underage sex lives, and harass people like Britney and Miley, Christina Aguilera, etc? Taylor got a pretty nasty helping of that, too, made all the worse by Kanye West (and then Kim Kardashian). There’s a video of a female Entertainment Tonight talking head at an awards show circa 2015, asking to show off Taylor’s dress and her long, long legs - and then the talking head asks Taylor how many men she plans on taking home with her that night. 😒😒😒 And they still have this up on their channel! There was an obsession over who she was dating, implying she was a slut and man eater who only dated men to write songs about them, but also calling her a failure of a woman who couldn’t keep a man (in her late teens and early 20s!). Overall she got some of the worst of the media misogyny of the 2010s. 🫤

I clicked very fast! There are two directions to go from here-- if you're looking for some big productions, I'd say Out Of the Woods, Look What You Made Me Do, or Wildest Dreams would be great! If you're looking to learn more about her strengths as a songwriter, Long Pond My Tears Ricochet would be my top pick--but if you want BOTH? All Too Well: The Short Film is your best bet. She meticulously directed that, and it's amazing! Edit: I want to add, especially at the Eras tour videos, there's almost an echo you can hear sometimes--it's the ENTIRE STADIUM singing along. For every single song. For the 1989 tour she took some amazing advantage of that, especially with 'You Are In Love' (HIGHLY recommend). The studio version has an echo, in the tour she asked the audience to echo, and it makes me cry, it's so good. You won't be disappointed with any of the suggestions here!

'Vigilant shit' from her Era's tour is amazing too! Did you see that she wasn't even winded when she finished the performance? For her current "Era's tour, she is performing 44 of her biggest hits. That is just shocking to me. I read that she trained by running on a treadmill while singing all 44 songs, which is like a 3.5 hour show. She is a beast. I was also amazed at her video for 'Bad Blood' with Kendrick Lemar. Her 10 minute little movie for 'All too well' is frigging amazing, in a totally different way. (Vulnerable Taylor) It's powerful in a different way & is about her relationship with Jake Gyllenhaal.

A great counterbalance to the sheer epicness of this one is the Grammy Museum performance, just her on the piano. It's a great example of how her songs work both in production (the video is fab too), live, and stripped down. If anyone hasn't watched the behind the scenes sound engineering interview she did at the same time as the Grammy Museum performances, please look that up! She plays some of the voice memos she uses to write songs and does some really great in-depth about the various elements that go into the production. Shout out to Jack Antonoff's dropped gear bag!!

@@HPReactRemember that this album (and Evermore) were made completely during Covid. Bon Iver is wearing a bandana mask in “Exile” because of the camera crew in his studio. Exile is my favorite from the entire album. Try to find the songs that have the interview before each song because it REALLY HELPS you understand what the song truly means; or watch the Disney+ release of it, song by song as that is where the interviews are from. This album was made from studios that they constructed at each of their homes because everything else was closed and they needed to feel productive. After each person doing their part in a different home, they came together to play the album at The Long Pond Studios (that I believe Aaron Dessner owns) for the very first time so “it would feel real and have closure.” It looks like they had a really great time playing it together. Justin was not able to make it there due to the travel restrictions, but they made it work. Only AFTER the album was completely done is when Taylor told her management team that she made an album. Haha. She said that they were “OK WITH ANYTHING THAT SHE WANTED TO DO”. How many people get that type of support and trust!? I’m so happy for her. ❤

Next, I would love to watch you guys hear & respond to one of Swift's many non-love, non-heartbreak songs: The Last Great American Dynasty Rebekah Harkness used to own the house that TS owns in Maine. "She had a marvelous time ruining everything." Great storytelling. Lyrics: Rebekah rode up on the afternoon train It was sunny Her salt box house on the coast took her mind off St. Louis Bill was the heir to the Standard Oil name And money And the town said, How did a middle class divorcée do it? The wedding was charming if a little gauche There's only so far new money goes They picked out a home and called it Holiday House Their parties were tasteful if a little loud The doctor had told him to settle down It must've been her fault his heart gave out And they said, there goes the last great American dynasty Who knows if she never showed up what could've been? There goes the maddest woman this town has ever seen She had a marvelous time ruining everything. Rebekah gave up on the Rhode Island set Forever Flew in all her Bitch Pack friends from the City. Filled the pool with champagne And swam with the big names And blew through the money On the boys and the ballet And losing on card game bets with Dalí. And they said, there goes the last great American dynasty Who knows if she never showed up what could've been? There goes the most shameless woman this town has ever seen She had a marvelous time ruining everything. They say she was seen on occasion Pacing the rocks, staring out at the midnight sea And in a feud with her neighbor She stole his dog and dyed it key lime green Fifty years is a long time Holiday House sat quietly on that beach Free of women with madness Their men and bad habits And then it was bought by me. Who knows if I never showed up what could have been? There goes the loudest woman this town has ever seen I had a marvelous time ruining everything I had a marvelous time Ruining everything A marvelous time Ruining everything A marvelous time I had a marvelous time. "The Last Great American Dynasty" by Taylor Swift and Aaron Dressner (2020, from the album "Folklore") And if this song of hers impresses you as it does me, wait until you hear and learn her song about her grandmother the opera singer, "Marjorie."

My Tears Ricochet. It's totally stripped down, gorgeous, you can hear her voice without competition and how much it has matured since she was younger. It is a song of heartbreak and you can feel her pain when she sings it. It's a beautiful song, the piano music is lovely. When she releases her breath at the end, you'll realize you've been holding yours.

Her current Eras Tour is pretty epic theatrically and she sings and dances live for 3 1/2 hours. It was a trip for sure. But the Reputation Tour was the biggest, craziest thing I’ve seen to date. It was pure dramatic theatre and she was making a statement that she had been judged unfairly and she just didn’t give a shit anymore. Her presence onstage is huge, yet inviting. @@HPReact Reputation was a pretty big departure from her previous EVERYTHING - music, aesthetic, she even took the criticism that she couldn’t dance and went “well, time to prove you wrong there, too.” (Remember what we were saying about spite? 😂) That, combined with it being the last time she toured between then - 2018 to 2023 - and it was available on Netflix until Dec 30, overall it’s just a REALLY beloved album. She also goes bigger with every tour, and the theatrical nature of the show is like something… well, you’d expect of the Broadway producers she hires. So people watch it over and over and over… One thing to keep in mind: Taylor often performs different versions of her songs live than on the album. She writes most of her songs on guitar, then they add in all the other elements and make it into country, pop, electro pop, hip hop, whatever. This makes it REALLY easy for her to strip a song back, but it also means she can remix with fun.

My favorite is the Long Pond Studio Sessions, specifically “Exile w/Bon Iver”. It is such a beautiful duet with extremely talented musicians involved in it. The Folklore album was made during Covid, so Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) is wearing a mask as there is a camera crew in the studio with him. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-o5SQIECedTY.htmlsi=3JHIoXc0VroSP0gj

The funny thing is this is not even her latest concert. (2018) I was there and it only gets better. With Reputation she took the media criticism and used it for her own success. She is not afraid to poke fun at herself. That is her best trait. I DID SOMETHING BAD from this tour is a perfect example of her taking control of a witch hunt mentality. It neutralizes the attacks. Reputation is her rebuttal to her criticisms. Are you ready for it? / let the games begin / look what you made me do. BLANK SPACE was the same. People accused her of being a serial dater and collecting men. If you look at her catalog, you will realize she is a music making machine and it doesn’t matter if she has 1 million fans or two fans she is going keep making music because she cannot help it. Her music videos are the best in the business year after year. Lately she has been directing her own videos as well. For a star of her magnitude, her humbleness is unheard of.

Some people, critics and media people put her down and she said she went to London and disappeared for awhile, like a year's time. She recorded Reputation and got ready for the tour . Reputation made millions and was so sucessful and the tour was the biggest grossing one of that period.

Her lyrics and poetry is pretty unmatched. Try some of the lyric videos from folklore. That way you can dig into the words and the storytelling by itself. But from what your experience is in live and music videos might have more content that you connect with. Next you should listen to one of her track 5s. They are usually the most vulnerable tracks on an album. Dear John and All Too Well are good ones.

Hah. If you think that this stage production is massive - and it is - you should see the Eras stage. I will very much look forward to hearing your reaction. As for what you should do next? Eh, unless you’re in a MOOD for something specific? My advice would be to throw all the suggestions in a pot and just pick one at random when you go to record. If you are in the mood, tho, this is the general album breakdown: Taylor Swift (self-titled): country with pop and rock influences * Fearless: country pop * Speak Now: country pop with pop rock and power pop influences * Red: country pop rock * 1989: pure, gleeful 80s synth pop - this is where her professional relationship with Jack Antonoff began Reputation: electropop R&B (with a good helping of EDM and trap - by far her grittiest album) + Lover: Bouncy, Bananarama pop rock - this is the first album where you don’t have to worry about looking for the “Taylor’s Version” of lyric videos; new label, and she owns her masters from here on out + folklore: astonishingly beautiful indie folk/alternative mixed with chamber pop. Think Joni Mitchell. + evermore: folklore’s sister album; haunting alt folk-pop (released just five months after folklore!) + Midnights: a very retro synth pop - think British Invasion + The Tortured Poets Department: TBD April 19 Anything marked with an asterisk has been re-recorded and is now known as [Album Title] Taylor’s Version. The TLDR is that her OG label wouldn’t sel her her masters without an oppressive new contract, so she has been re-recording all of her old albums, making small changes to the songs, and generally adding between 3 and 5 songs from that era of songwriting that didn’t make it onto the album originally. Either because the songs didn’t fit right, or her label wouldn’t let her have more than 13 songs, or they just didn’t like the songs. These albums are a delight for late-comer fans like me, because it’s a lot of her famous songs available with her mature and much stronger voice (after years of vocal lessons). Some of her earlier fans don’t like the new songs as much because they do sound different - a 33-year-old woman just can’t sound like a 15-year-old teen. But everyone will tell you that if you’re listening to a lyric video, listen to a song that’s labeled [Song Name] Taylor’s Version or From the Vault. She’s still comped for the older songs being played, and she hasn’t re-recorded any music videos, so they’re fair game as is. Any album marked by a + she owns, and you don’t have to look for the Taylor’s Version of songs on those albums, tho you will still find From the Vault options. Hope that helps! I know some of it is a reiteration from… yesterday? (time is hard) but I figure you’re gonna a get so swamped, a little repetition is worth it. 😊

As far as suggestions go - one thing I have not seen any reactors do is a short series of her TV and film songs. Here are the ones that I'm aware of that were written specifically for films: Crazier from The Hannah Montana Movie (2009) - Taylor was in the film Today was a Fairytale (2010) - Taylor was also in the film Safe & Sound (with the Civil Wars) from The Hunger Games (2012) Eyes Open from The Hunger Games (2012) Sweeter Than Fiction from One Chance (2013) - a James Corden film I Don't Wanna Live Forever duet with Zayn from Fifty Shades Darker (2016) Beautiful Ghosts from CATS (2019) - she wrote the song but someone else performed it in the film, but Taylor has a lyric video version. You will a bit of intentional British inflection with this one but focus on the lyrics and I think you'll appreciate it. Carolina from Where the Crawdads Sing (2022) My personal favorites are Safe & Sound (music video version), I Don't Wanna Live Forever (music video version), & Carolina (visualizer or lyric video version) Taylor wrote or co-wrote all of these. Welcome to your Taylor journey!

Oooh if you’re a lyric guy you’re gonna have fun with Taylor!! I would recommend what she calls “The Teenage Love Triangle” from her album Folklore. She made up characters and a story and there’s 3 songs (1 from each perspective). Cardigan, August, Betty are the songs. The characters are James, Betty & unnamed (but Taylor says in her heads it’s Augustine/Augusta). Betty is from James’s perspective, cardigan is Betty’s perspective and August is Augustine’s perspective. If you pay attention to the lyrics in all 3 you can follow the story!!

Go back and listen to the lyrics. She is a phenomenal lyricist, Ready For It is good, but there are some truly exceptional songs of hers. Also, please don’t say it’s embarrassing to give her a 10… because she is a great musician and the fact that she has a lot of female fans doesn’t mean that liking her as a man should be embarrassing in any way… That said - check out All Too Well 10minute version music video, Should've Said No performance at the 43rd Annual ACM Awards (mind you, she was only 18 at the time!) and I Did Something Bad from the Reputation tour.
