From what I understand, Tatiana's insane depth and width come from a somewhat unique method that she developed, she actually opens the valve leading to her stomach, acting as an additional reverb chamber. I think she talked about it in an interview... wish i could find the link.

That short sizzle at "hook" when she sings "Searching for a hook to catch on" at 12:55 is crazy! And the rest of that line "and see their sun beam", when she releases the air at the end, she does that quick and loud, accenting it. And then the echo hits shortly after *chef's kiss* Details like these are what elevates artists to another level!

It just never gets old =D "She has such a soft, smooth, velvety...." Tatyana: "SCALE ARMOUR BLAAAAAZE!!!" edit: Silliness aside, welcome to this particular rabbit hole. I assume that by the time you read this comment, you've read a hundred other comments saying you should really react to "Teacher Teacher", "Perennial live at Wacken 2019", vocal one take of "Judgement & Punishment" and likely also some for "Vortex" and "Home Back". I'm not saying you should react to all of them on camera, but I can only tell that you're missing out if you've not heard them. Pisces isn't fully representative of the band's capabilities. As a band, they are very tight, yet also versatile, which I've come to consider quite rare lately.

How did you miss the most viral reaction video ever? Lol Tatiana is a beast. What sets her apart (aside from her crazy lows) is how much versatility she brings in her cleans as well. To me the mark of an excellent modern metal vocalist is not only being able to transition between singing/screaming but also being able to carry a song fully with either one. Tati sings during heavy sections as well and is able to match the intensity through her belts, and then kick in the growls for even more brutality. A great example of her high belt voice is on “Cloud Factory,” absolutely incredible vocal delivery. There’s a great older live video of “Who’s Gonna Be the One” which is great to listen to if you think this is the lowest she can go. ;)
@ericpeterson7512
@ericpeterson7512 8 месяцев назад
You hit the nail on the head! The mark of a truly good modern metal singer is the ability not only to sing beautifully and scream like a demon, but switch seamlessly between them, and carry a full song with either. Tatiana is unexcelled in her mastery of this IMO.

She is such a powerhouse of stage presence. You really need to see some of their actually live audience stuff. She owns the stage, like to the level of Robert Plant. Just exudes confidence and charisma. And the band is tight AF. Vlad (drums) and Eugene (Bass) especially are infinitely underrated.
@ericpeterson7512
@ericpeterson7512 8 месяцев назад
I couldn't agree more! But the very fact you didn't mention Roman is illustrative to me of how he's even more underrated than Eugene or Vlad lol. Roman is the secret weapon! 😉
@saltydroog854
@saltydroog854 8 месяцев назад
@@ericpeterson7512 Fair point. But Roman's part has been self described as modest by both him and Eugene. They talked about how the new album coming out finally features some strong guitar focused stuff. I'm definitely not trying to sell Roman short, I just feel like there has already been content from Vlad and Eugene worthy of world class respect. But your point is taken.
@ericpeterson7512
@ericpeterson7512 8 месяцев назад
@@saltydroog854 Interesting. "Modest" eh? That's humble. I'm not sure I'd describe Roman's contributions as modest. Maybe compared to what he COULD do... Yikes, that's a truly scary thought! As far as I'm concerned his rhythm work is so amazing he doesn't even need to play leads. Have you watched his playthrough videos?? The man is a rhythm monster! I mean his right hand speed picking is like "James Hetfield hold my beer." I compare his chord selection with Alex Lifeson of Rush, and that's about as good of company as you can be in for that thing. Like I said, Roman Abramkhalilov is way underrated. If he brings even more to the table on the next album, it will be time for everyone in the world to learn how to pronounce his last name!
@saltydroog854
@saltydroog854 8 месяцев назад
@@ericpeterson7512 I do agree with you. And I think it's fair that I shouldn't have excluded him from my original point. But in this case I'm going off of an interview I saw with Eugene and Roman where they talked about thus far having not really done anything that features stand out guitar work. Perhaps they are speaking in the context of what his potential is, and it's also a 3rd language for them, so it was probably not put as eloquently as possible. But they made the point to say that this all changes with the new album, it's heavy on the guitar work. I think I just mean that to a layperson, Vlad and Eugene instantly stand out as exceptional...especially Vlad, and Eugene does a lot of neck tapping and has an instantly recognizable sound. I just don't think Roman has had the opportunity to stake such claims. But you are right. They are all exceptional musicians. And they all could not possibly be given enough credit for what they do as a band. The fact that there aren't all these self glorified solos is incredible to me, rather they play as a singular unit and equal something far greater than the sum of their individual parts.
@ericpeterson7512
@ericpeterson7512 8 месяцев назад
@@saltydroog854 agreed 100%. I'm kinda a guitar solo guy. I love lead guitar. Jinjer is the first band where I kinda don't miss it. I'm super stoked to hear Roman will do even more on the upcoming album though! I agree, he hasn't yet fully made his mark. He's the least talked about member of Jinjer. I really love his work so far. He clearly has amazing skills. We've caught glimpses of soloing ability. I can't wait to see what emerges!

Great analysis. It's true that is one aspect of the technique. It's a little like a synthesizer producing a static unpitched sound and then using a filter to shape the resulting sound light or dark or similar to a trumpet mute although in that case it's a pitched sound. Regarding the delay that is something some beginning engineers are not aware of. The pitch smearing effect from a relatively short delay and a descending note can make an impact on the feel of the vocal if the right delay interval is chosen for the given note slide. If you like this one you will really like their video Judgement and Punishment One Take Vocal. The camera is on her the entire time for that one. Also Perennial Live at Wacken Open Air is an excellent example of how she does all this on stage.

As a person who cannot sing a single tone I am in awe of anyone with this ability. Our music teacher in primary school let me sit under the piano in order to prevent me from singing a single note with the rest of the class. I am also tone deaf and color blind. When I go to the Big Gig in the Sky I am going to ask why some of us are sent to earth with no talent at all and are expected to live a productive life. Despite my challenges I did take classical guitar lessons for 2 years before being advised to give it up. I admire each and every person who can sing.

The video is lip-synced to the studio recording, it's not live, despite what the title of the video says. Just clearing that up. They got a new drummer and put this video out to promote it, but the vocal is clearly the same track as the album version. The drum part has changed and some added backing vocals, but playing them over each other that's all I can tell that's different - but it is the definitive version I think, the drum part is miles better. There are lots of live videos of Jinjer online though and they're extremely good, so I'm not insinuating they can't 'do it live'. One of my favourite bands atm.

I've been working on my harsh vocals ever since I first heard David Draiman go "ah-WAA-AA-AA-AH!" on Down With the Sickness lol. I have to sing clean all night, so I've always known I had to go about it properly or risk losing it all. I've eased my way into it intuitively. Much like Tatiana, only not nearly so cool and awesome 😂. Walking around the house making noises like a lunatic. I've seen others break it down and give some good advice, but your instruction finally gives me what I believe I need to really progress with this harsh vocal thing. I love everything about this! Can't wait to get started on the courses!

So here's the the thing: I was absolutely convinced you had checked out Jinjer before, it felt like this is a "ah well he has to check out _that_ song by them as well, sure" moment, especially since you're well familiar with all things growling. So I was genuinely surprised (and delighted, of course!) when I realized that this was in fact your very first experience of Tati, Vlad, Roman, and Eugene. For further vocal analysis their One Take Vocal of "Judgement & Punishment" is a stellar example, if you'd like to experience how tight the band performs check out the music video of "Teacher Teacher", and "Perennial (live at Wacken" and (if you dare) "Who's gonna be the one (live)" are great examples of what they sound like in concert.

I was listening to Jinjer on my way home from work today and thought, “I wonder if Chris Liepe has reacted to “Pisces” yet?” (I’m a new subscriber. I’ve seen certain breakdowns so far.) Imagine my joy and surprise when I saw this. Just 3 weeks ago. I love this guy! 😊

GREAT Review! One of the better Pisces reactions I have watched...which is no longer easy to count. You have a great voice yourself. The entire band is fantastic, very talented and made for each other. I have a drum crush on Vlad. Most of us discovered Jinjer because of Tati's growls and screams, but for me personally, you hit on exactly why I got hooked....the texture and variation within Tatiana's clean vocals. Breathy, velvety, almost jazzy at many points, sometimes Gwen Stefani playful in tone. Lots of vocal slides. And a great mixed voice belter as well. You should do either the Judgement & Punishment One Take (listed below) to see just Tati up close in a recording booth doing a true one-take vocal performance with a bikini top on so you can see her throat and chest to get a better view of her vocal production. Or go to Perennial Live at Wacken to see how great her physical presence is in a live performance. She is one of the best frontmen I have ever seen live over many genres over 35 years. Just a killer on stage.....the whole band brings it in spades. Finally, TheFairyVoicemother has speculated that singers like Tati and Courtney (Spiritbox) who maintain strength singing with their true vocal chords in their lower notes/register indicates they likely have thick vocal chords....and that often ties into having a larger larynx...which means their might be more room within their throats for air to move around during vestibular chord engagement. Which is how they are able to sustain their deep growls for a long time. This video doesn't show Tati's really long growls or banshee scream. I have subscribed. Keep on rocking the good reviews! This fact that you don't know Jinjer, all things considered, is mind blowing. It shows how siloed we can become; makes me wonder what I'm missing.

The fun guitar runs on the lighter part in the middle("Neptune's child") remind me of Mark Termonti. Such a good song.

There is a little bit of post production at play here as well- you can hear it clearly in some parts where her voice splits into two (her singing voice) , and some have noted some pitch correction, which takes nothing away from Tatiana.
