Stacie..I saw a really good idea from another homesteaders which I'm going to use NEXT year@ Ya it's gettong too late 4 me to start building raised beds here due to the amount of prep work I have to do!..u have alot of trees there too..I have to cut some down 4 my solar and garden. This guy used whole logs ..he stacked 1 on top of another..8 foot long pieces..2 sides like that tgen 4 foot long pieces stacked on top of each other..this made a rectangle..u have less cutting to do and it looks awesome rustic!..u could make the sides 3 or 4 logs high whatever..about carrots..check out Quebec homesteads method 4 planting carrots..its zwesome! .. U can also save soil by using hugilcilture...meaning stuff the beds with sticks to a height..maybe half full then start adding soil..the sticks rot and add to the soil...u can plant potatoes in boxes! Stick all flaps inside..boxes should be st least 16 inches deep..plant them 4" from the bottom then fill with more soil..plant more 2 weeks apart..I know u have a short season..follow James Prigioni on rhe Gardening Channel on utube..hes a big help to me!
Great job! I’m getting cucumbers and green beans so far.. it is work. It’s 80’s at night and 95 -105 F during day here. Lots of watering and shade cover. It’s a lot of luck too😂 hang in there it looks great😎👍🏻
Awesome repurpose for the garden! Well done! Doesn't stuff freshly picked from your garden rock?! Things have been slow this year due to the colder Spring here in Ontario as well. Tomatoes are just getting growing. Love the wheelbarrow for growing potatoes! Great idea. Cheers girl...happy gardening!
Congratulations on your first garden. It will do well as long as it doesn’t dry out. The extreme heat here has been brutal, but we had a break yesterday and today before the high temps return. We are having August temps in June which is out of the norm. But then again what’s normal these days? Be safe, take care.
Definitely not drying out, I just realized I’ve been overwatering it! Wow that’s crazy about your temps. It’s been cool, then warm for us here, now it’s cooling off a bit. But the mosquitoes are brutal!
Hi Stacy, I had to laugh in the beginning seeing you still wearing your Bunny Boots, lol. You're becoming quite the gardener. Your plants are looking good for the most part. Smart idea tearing the dog condo apart and making it a planter. Now, we need to see you making something delicious using your garden veggies. Thanks for sharing.
Garden looking great. Yes gardening is a lot of work but worth it. Love fresh tomatoes. Looking forward to seeing your first tomato sandwich. Home made fries are the best. A little dirt beard. Ha ha. I’m smiling. Happy Gardening
Ah yes! The questioning of life choices! Happened a lot huh?! 🤣 Nice beard Stacy! Love the wheelbarrow taters! Garden is looking good! Great way to repurpose a structure! Can’t wait to see what grows! 😁
How's she goin'? Neat idea to re-purpose the dog condo into a raised garden. It'll be real easy on your back too when it comes weeding time!! Good luck with your garden. It looks like it's well underway to a bountiful harvest!!! Take care!!!
I'm one of your older subscribers and enjoy reading about your adventures. I grew up in Alaska and spent 20 winters in Fairbanks...so I know what Cold winters are.... I had my own garden in Anchorage when I was a teenager...I found red radishes and leaf lettuce the easiest to grow....good luck with your garden...I moved to the Northern Mariana Islands when I turned 60...no more cold environment or trying to keep wood in the fireplace to stay warm....best to you.....
Lol...everything will taste so much better than the store! You are sucked into this gardening thing, already talking about next year! Maybe a hoop house or a high tunnel?
Garden is looking great Stacy!!!! Can'wt wait to see you start harvesting!!!! I had a cilantro plant that was the freshest I ever had it smelled so goo but the heat ended up killing it here in Arizona.... my oregano, sage and rosemary are still do good. Sage is actually out of control
Gardening is enjoyable and fun. The more you do it, the more you learn about it. Despite the short growing season, you have a lot of light, right now, because of the long hours of sunlight. Thanks for sharing this. Cheers! ✌️🇨🇦
I'm remote..I may as well be in tge Yukon! Haha..the local gardening centre just has basics..I have to wait til fall to get my dwarf apple trees now and I have yo go to north bay prolly.
Looking gorgeous in part II of thinking about life’s choices, the black sweater and white cap! Don’t get frustrated on this journey because gardening can be frustrating at times. It can be heaven and it can be hell. Enjoy your new hobby!
Cilantro is my favourite! Chris totally hates it. It’s one of those things, nobody kinda likes cilantro, am I right? It’s all in or all out. After you eat your own tomato’s you will think all other tomatoes taste like sadness and disappointment hahaha Chris is the gardener around here, I try to help here and there when I can. He just planted another little garden, at the cabin! So that’s exciting.
Gardening is fun. The best teacher for good harvest is learning by doing, you mess up, and you succeed. Our gardening zones are the opposite from yours, from 1 in the south, to 8 up north. I am in zone 6, but really these last years with strange climate i can grow things that is in zone 4 with no problems, and with a greenhouse i can grow things i really didn't think would be able to up here. I can also say, that you have done much better with your peas than me, i cant get them to grow. Good job! :) Loved your gardening beard that was awesome hahaha! Thank you for sharing, you have a great gardening summer!
Ha that's my plan with most things - mess up then learn how to do it better! That's interesting about the weather changing what you can grow, better for you! My peas are doing ok, but since the video it's my radishes and lettuce that are going nuts!
Yes, gardening is hard work but if you are lucky you will reap tasty results. Great idea turning the old dog condo and old wood into a raised bed! Eventually you will figure out what works best by trial and error for your climate and soil and next year will be easier. Ask Cindy if we can see her beds! Does she use a temporary cover for the cold nights? I remember my favorite summer meal as a kid. Mom would send me into the garden for a few tomatos, cucumbers and whatever else was ready, mix with shrimp and homemade dressing and yum. Is it too cold to create a compost pile in the Yukon?
I can show her beds, good idea. She does use a temporary cover for the more ‘delicate’ plants, like tomatoes. Others that are hardier are ok without, like peas, radishes, etc. Compost can work up here, I just don’t want any more bear attractants, but now that I have my yard fenced off, I should look into it.
I’m so sorry I haven’t watched your channel in awhile! Bad Toni! I’m super excited for you on the garden! Home grown veggies taste so much better than store bought.
I know it is all relative and what you are used to. My parents had a choice to leave Zambia and go to Canada or south africa. They chose sa. I now live in australia. I like heat. I would not survive the cold that you live with. And you never complain about it.
Love these chats and random thoughts you share. It’s cold and very damp here in Oregon, hindering any progress in the garden. The tomatoes basically said….nope! 😆
@@CabinDweller Are you doing good as you have not posted a vlog lately and may God bless you, if you lived in the US I would wish you a happy 4TH. Have one any way.
@@davidmacek2354 I’m ok David, thanks for checking in. Just dealing with cleaning out my parent’s house as my mom is moving and I brought a lot back with me. Just finished a drive up the Alaska highway and am currently unpacking and organizing. Not much extra time but I’ll be working on a video in the next week or so with an update!
