After Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence came out, Mike Portnoy answered some questions on his website, one of them being: "Will there be a "sequel" to the Glass Prison that covers the remaining steps of recovery (as Alcoholics Anonymous teaches)?" MP responds: "It's something that would be a nice little project for me to try to tackle in the coming years. It would also probably be a very good thing for my recovery. So yeah it's something I'm thinking about."

This band and this album were melting my mind a decade and a half ago when it came out. It was never on the radio and it was never popular with the people I knew with because they all lived and died by the rock and roll that's on the radio and the MTV stations. It's good to know this much further down the timeline of history with internet and RU-vid etc that people like yourself are starting to indulge in this realm of tasty music that's always been out there but it's not mass produced and friendly. There's a lot of music to unpack here and once you start to unpack it you'll never go hungry again.

So actually the static heard in Glass Prison is actually from the ending of the previous album “Scenes from a Memory” so in a way that six album stretch is super meta and the last note of Six Degrees is the first note heard on Train of Thought and that continues until Octavarium because in Octavarium it’s them completing the cycle and then they signed with Roadrunner Records shortly after, Dream Theater is such an insane band.

Falling into Infinity: Peruvian Skies, Hollow Years, Burning My soul. Metropolis Pt. 2: whole album. Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence: The Glass Prison, Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence. Train of Thought: whole album. Octavarium: The Root of all evil, These Walls, Panick Attack. After Octavarium I didn't listen to them that much because I found a "change" of genre.

There was a series of albums they did that were all linked in some way, either by the songs that made up the 12-step suite or just by other easter eggs or nods to other albums... The static you hear at the beginning of The Glass Prison is because the album before that (Metropolis Pt. 2) ends with the same static noise, and the last note of SDOIT is the same note that begins the next album (Train of Thought), the idea being that they're just making one really bloody long album I guess.... My favourite Dream Theater song is probably The Count of Tuscany if you're looking for another of their 'epics' to react to. It's a good mix of the progressive/melodic sound while also being really heavy. The vocal section that starts at 10:42 is them paying homage to 'Blackened' by Metallica which you might like if you enjoyed their other stuff (same album as 'One')

This track is simply FIRE. Yes...for the next song check Honour Thy Father or Stream of Consciousness or the next one in the Suite - The Root of All Evil. And I will keep going with the Symphony X reaction...The Odyssey, or if you want stuff like The Divine WIngs of Tragedy, or Egypt, Rediscovery, In the Dragon's Den or Smoke and Mirrors...seriously, Symphony X is a must when you listen to DT...Keep it up!
