They recorded a video of Smooth Criminal in my hometown (Pula, Croatia) and put it on youtube..It became an internet sensation and Elton John heard them and was so impressed he contacted them to go on tour with him..That made them even more popular and they blew. Rest is history. I'm glad you enjoyed this video! Their goal was to show that you can play anything on a cello, not only classical music.
So glad you got this deblocked! Now do eeeeverything hahah :D As 2cellos they do covers, and separately they do like classical cello stuff. They did split a couple of years ago bc private life stuff, family (in Luka's case) and all that, but recently they did put out a new cover, it's Bon Jovi's Livin' on a prayer. My faves are Voodoo People (Prodigy, and if you go for that one do yourself a favour and go for live at Exit festival, effin insane), Whole lotta love/5th symphony medley and They don't care about us, but tbh whatever you go for is amazeballs.
They toured with Elton John and his crew as the opening act for a time after a friend told him to watch their version of Smooth Criminal. You can see a interview with him on their website. And yes, they massacre bows.
As instruments go, the cello is notable for having roughly the same pitch range as the human voice. Throw in the ability to get different timbres (e.g., by contrasting pizzicato vs bowing), and yes, this makes the cello one of the instruments best suited to playing an entire song, without the assistance of any other instruments. Setting aside electronic synthesizers (which can use samples to mimic literally any sound), the best and most versatile such instrument is probably either the human voice (if you allow several of them working together) or the pipe organ; but the cello is also very high on the list. It's certainly better for the purpose than an acoustic guitar or any of the woodwinds or brass instruments, and the main thing holding it back from being better than the piano, is the cello's limited number of strings, which strictly limits how many notes it can hit at the same time. Putting two cellos together, doubles the number of notes you can hit at once, significantly mitigating that weakness.
Classically trained of course from childhood. Wanted to try something more exciting. Their first vid was Smooth Criminal by Michael Jackson, it rocked. Vid Likes absolutely flew in. Elton John saw vid, contacted them and they toured with him, then finally went out on their own - the rest is pure brilliant magic. Their interviews are usually hysterical, they laugh so much. 2 brilliant musicians, who sometimes, still play classical, BUT, because we know they can rock, their classical is even fantastic to watch too. I read before, 2 Cellos are doing another world tour this year 2022. Some places already sold out. .
@@Steve_Gee74 if they do, we have their music forever. They had a break from each other for a few years. So that’s their decision, if so, ok, but sometimes people change their minds - no one knows the future
Only 10 views and no comments. Perhaps "Smells Like Teen Spirit" or "Pirates Of The Caribbean" would get there attention. I haven't seen anything but covers by them, but they certainly have a wide variety.
Love them doing the G.O.T theme and the music from Gladiator when he is going home to his waiting family, but all their music is awesome. Thank you for posting this.
It amazes me how slow reactors are to realize this is COMEDY and the audience are performers and part of the act. The one cello player is making fun of Angus Young, the lead guitar player for AC DC who often points above the audience between notes as the cellos player does and Angus lies down during his long guitar solo at the climax of AC DC concerts and spins in a circle on his back - which makes it hilarious when the cello player does it in this video - But most reactors reacting to this video don't get the joke.
Croatia may be a small European country but it looks like they have more than their share of talent! I mean, who the hell would have thought this was possible. Now, pull the venue forward 400 or so years and check out their version of Bon Jovi's Livin' on a Prayer; ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VvqImsjpfPo.html
They probably do have a lot of bows but these are probably cheaper bows. They can be rehaired, so they don't have to throw them away once the hair comes off.
Pretty sure this isn't done on those instruments. They also play electric cellos, and that end solo HAS to be on something electric. It just has to be.
