The bass singer is Geoff Castellucci. He has a 5 octave vocal range and can sing the roof of the house or can sing so low the floor in the basement shakes. 😊 theyre a great group

Lots of people have 5 octave vocal ranges, though... Geoff is the silkiest smooth at jumping around his range I have ever heard.

Geoff does solo stuff too that's pretty impressive. His most dramatic extreme high to extreme low directly is in "Ain't No Sunshine."

One of the big 3 acapella groups, along with Home Free and Pentatonix. The theater kids of acapella. Bass singer Geoff Castelucci and beatboxer Layne Stein take turns with the arrangements. Eli Jacobsen is the bald tenor, he'll do some of the lighting. Earl Elikns Jr has since left the group, J. None joined the Navy but will guest when on leave. Cesar De La Rosa is a newer member, Tony Wakim is another former member seen in older videos. geoff'swife, Kathy , is their production manager. Try their cover of We Don't Talk About Bruno(featuring Ashley Diane) from Disney's Encanto, or their cover of Aerosmith's Dream On (featuring Omar Cardona). Geoff does covers on his channel too, try 16 Tons, or Ain't No Sunshine.

Welcome to the Voiceplay community, you will get a whole flood of people watching you guys react to em! So glad that this was the song to really introduce you guys to the group, it was my first intro to them too, and trust me it only gets better! They have sooo many songs over a dozen genres, they do Disney, they have a Boy Bands in 5 Minutes medley, as well as one for Queen, and a bunch of classic rock. Dream On by Aerosmith, Carry On Wayward Son by Kansas, Nothing Else Matters by Metallica, In The Air Tonight by Phil Collins, the list goes on! You guys will literally never run out of Voiceplay to watch

General info; that last note was an E1. That's 4 keys above the bottom of a piano keyboard. That's almost as low as the human voice can go.

You'll pick up subscribers if you continue to do Voiceplay reactions. They've done several other songs from Nightmare Before Christmas, plus Geoff has done one on his solo YT channel. Since this vid was made, Earl Elkins (high tenor) and JNone (baritone) have left the group. Earl has never been replaced, so all VP vids the last few years have had a guest artist (male or female) in the fifth spot. JNone was replaced by Cesar DeLaRosa. JNone does come back occasionally as a guest artist himself, when he's on leave from the Navy. That drop of about three and a half octaves that Geoff did at the end is kind of a standard trick. If you watch VP's "Little Mermaid Medley" (with guest artist Rachel Potter), you'll hear him do it as a slide, all on one syllable ("souls"). Since we're coming up on Christmas, you could also react to "You're a Mean One, Mister Grinch," with guest artist Adriana Arellano who was 16 at the time. Geoff just started doing music vids on his solo channel since COVID. Almost all of them consist of him doing four- or five-part harmony with himself. Makeup, green screen cinematography, the whole bit. Some of his most beautiful recent work includes be "I See Fire" (from The Hobbit) and "Till Then" (a WWII song originally by The Mills Brothers). Have fun.
@kaejuka6249

i always thought Cesar was supposed to replace Earl, since afaik J-None is planning on returning to the group once his time in the navy is done.
@DougRayPhillips
@DougRayPhillips 7 месяцев назад
@@kaejuka6249 Well, I guess it's a horse apiece. JNone was classed as a/the baritone. Cesar is listed as a tenor-baritone. That theoretically means he's lower than Eli. Earl was a high tenor, therefore higher than Eli. And most of the guest artists are high voices. But none of the guys in the group really fit into preset ranges. Cesar was the one who hit the highest note in Dream On. If JNone just comes back, yeah, the group would be fully functional.

Long comment is long: Hi! Welcome to the glory that is VoicePlay. Be prepared for a floodgate of subscriptions. I, like many here, subscribed immediately when you did a Voiceplay video. You seem like you're about to go down the rabbit hole and I, for one (and all the rest of the VoicePlayers) are going to absolutely live for your reactions as you get to know the guys, the group's story and their endless supply of wonderful music. They release at least one full length song per month, sometimes two. They also produce 1 to 4 'minis', just shorts that are excerpts of songs. VP is entirely independent. They arrange, film concept, set design and building, edit, first mix, production, lights... all of it is them (PattyCake Productions which is listed a lot of the time, is run and owned by Lane Stine, a current VP member and Tony Wakim, a former VP member). Songs go off for a final mixing by Ed Boyer, who does the mixing for the 'Big Three' acapella groups - VoicePlay, Home Free, and Pentatonix - as well as so much more. They also do not copyright claim their videos as they actively enjoy reactor interactions. The band's members have changed slowly over time, but if you look at the thumbnail for their cover of Metallica's Nothing Else Matters, the individuals from left to right are: *Geoff Castellucci* - The Most Marvelous Bass Singer. Pronounced "Jeff" not "Gee-off." He, himself, has a 5 octave range, and his current lowest note is a B0... there are only two notes lower than that on the Piano. *J.None* - Baritone Perfecto and former member of the band who is serving in the Navy at the moment, but who gets together with the guys for another song whenever he can. Absolutely stunning smooth, warm voice. *Eli Jacobson* - Rock Tennor Sans Compare. The name is pronounced like the feminine name Ellie, rhymes with Jelly, and is short for Eliezer not Elijah. Watching his voice and skill develop over the years has been an absolute delight. *Cesar De La Rosa* - Baritone/Tennor Extroidinare. Cool voice, smooth smile, Incredibly theatrical and wonderfully entertaining. *Layne Stein* - Boundless Human Synthesizer. Or maybe an alien. He's got it all. Drum kit, brass section, throat bass, and an ability to create sounds you would *swear* are not possible to create by human mouth and throat. They are. Layne proves it. Also an excellent violin player. Former Members that you're likely to see in older videos: *Tony Wakim* - former bass - now co-owns PattyCake productions with Layne *Earl Elkins* - former high tennor (Tennor 1) - stunningly high voice, left for personal reasons In addition to the band's regular members, in nearly every video, you'll see a guest featured. Common appearances are DeeJay Young,Omar Cardona, J.None(for now technically a guest feature), Rachel Potter, Anthony Gargiula, and Jose Rosario, Jr. Before I get to recommendations, it's worth noting that although not all of their older songs have them, most of the stuff from the last couple of years has captions, though it usually takes a day or so after the videos are posted for them to be added. Turning on the captions is worth it because sometimes there are funny notes (see VP's cover of Nighmare Before Christmas's Oogie Boogie Song for a prime example) Similarly, it's always worth it to to watch the video credits. On occasion there is something to see during the credits (See Hellfire, Drunken Sailor, or Hall of the Mountain King for the best examples here). ---------- That all being said, and with the note that everything they've done is really, genuinely worth watching, here are my "These First!!!" recommendations: If you like ..... You should check out their cover of: Metallica ..... Nothing Else Matters* Pirates ..... Hoist the Colors, Drunken Sailor* Vikings ..... My Mother Told Me, Valhalla Calling* Video Games ..... Enemy*, The Dragonborn Comes*, Halo Theme, Still Alive, Minecraft Theme(mini) Sea shanties ..... Wellermen* Nightmare Before Christmas ..... What's This, Kidnap the Sandy Claws*, Oogie Boogie Song, This is Halloween* Disney Movies ..... Moana Medley*, Little Mermaid Medley, Hellfire*, We Don't Talk About Bruno*, Friends on the Other Side*, Go the Distance, Frozen 2 Medley Musicals ..... Wicked Medley, Timewarp(mini), If I were a Rich Man*, Greatest Showman Medley BTS ..... Butter* Panic! At the Disco ..... Panic in 4 minutes - parts 1 and 2, Death of a Bachelor + The Billie Eilish in 3 Minutes* is a prequel to the Panic in 4 Minutes, and together they are a three video series. Halloween ..... Hide and Seek*, Superstition, Hall of the Mountain King*, Grim Grinning Ghosts Christmas ..... Christmas Don't Be Late, You're A Mean One Mr. Grinch, Mission: Jingle Bells, Baby It's Cold Outside*, O Little Town of Bethlehem, This Christmas, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, O Holy Night Generally Being Awed and Amazed ..... Seven Nation Army, Creep, Man in the Mirror, In the Air Tonight, Eleanor Rigby, In My Room, Dream On, The Heart of Life, Survivor (Zombies vs Hillbillies, with fellow Acapella Band Home Free), Boy Bands in 5 Minutes, Tennessee Whiskey, I Can't Make You Love Me, Golden Hour, Bang, The Bones, Cary On My Wayward Son, Queen in 5 Minutes *LITERALLY ALL OF THESE, CONSIDER THIS WHOLE SECTION STARRED* ---------- I've starred a few favourites, and it's also definitely worth noting that if a song has lyrics, especially a bridge, that isn't in the original, Geoff Castellucci almost always is the one who writes it. If I didn't star it, it's still excellent. Even if I didn't list it, it's still amazing. These are just the ones that stand out to me as things I want to see reactors... well, react to. Finally, Geoff also has a solo career, and his videos are here, too. I'd suggest, in no particular order House of the Rising Sun, Ain't No Sunshine, Sixteen Tons, Jack's Lament (Nightmare Before Christmas), God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, White Christmas, The Sound of Silence, Far Over The Misty Mountains Cold (The Hobbit), I See Fire (The Hobbit), and Ghost Riders in the Sky.

Welcome to Voice Play! They are yet another super-talented and fantastic a capella group. They have several other covers from the music from "The Nightmare Before Christmas". "This is Halloween" is fabulous and Geoff, the bass singer, did a cover of "Jack's Lament". You really can't go wrong with any of Voice Play's music! They are the "theater kids" of a capella, as they do a lot of costumes, make-up, and character voices. They're just fabulous! They have two songs from video games ("Halo Theme" and "The Dragon Born Comes") that are really fantastic.

I gave VoicePlay their #TheatreKidsOfACapella. This was the first video of theirs that I watched and listened to after I found Geoff Castellucci's (the Bass) cover of Sixteen Tons. He is a founding member of the group. He has his own channel and does low-bass covers. Sandy Claws is Geoff's brother-in-law. They have also done This Is Halloween, Kidnap The Sandy Claw, and What's This. Geoff just released his cover Of JACKS LAMENT for Halloween all from the Nightmare Before Christmas.

Welcome to the VoicePlay rabbit hole. It's deep. Check out their whole catalog they are all worth it. Just remember that everything you hear is made by someone on screen. There are a few exceptions but those are all obvious. As for some other songs that they did that are highlights, now that we are getting into the holiday season, "You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch". Looking forward to your next reaction. One thing I would recommend is to work on your mic settings as it was cutting out a bit unless whoever was speaking was a bit louder than normal conversational volume. There were a few comments from Lulu and Donna(?) that I couldn't hear.

VoicePlay are so -called for a reason They love to play. Sometimes known as the theatre kids of acapella, many of their videos use this theatrical style. And they're wonderful. Geoff Castellucci was Oogie Boogie here and his range is amazing. He has his own channel of low bass covers.
@janetdw

They are known as the theater kids of a cappella. All of them have worked either at Universal studios or Disney so theatricality is pretty easy for them. They have done four songs from the movie and on Geoff’s solo channel, he covered Jack’s Lament this year. Not all of their songs are quite so theatrical, but it is one of their trademarks. Fun fact: Santa is played by Geoff’s brother-in-law, but the voice acting was done by Eli who was all in red. You might enjoy some of their Disney pieces. They don’t necessarily go all out like this but they really bring the feeling of the movie back. My personal favorite is the Little Mermaid Medley, but they’ve also done Moana, Frozen 2, and We don’t talk about Bruno (which is really funny) among others. For less theatrical pieces, consider the cover of Tennessee Whiskey which has the same members. One of my favorites is also Carry on Wayward Son with guest artist Omar Cardona who was on the voice last year. The bearded high tenor is not in the production. Another big favorite is the cover of Metallica’s Nothing else mMatters. They’ve been performing together professionally since 1997 and have had several personnel changes since then. Most of those changes are in the baritone slot. From about 2009 when they started recording videos, we had Tony Wakim until 2017, J Nunn until 2021, and Cesar de la Rosa is their current baritone. In 2020, there a long time original member Earl who was the guy with the beard in this video left leaving an empty slot which they have been filling with a variety of guest artists. Because of the personnel changes and the fact that they really like to feature guest artists even when they have a full group, it’s always a good idea to read the description all the way down at the bottom they will feature all the credits and you can see who is who. Another thing that sets them apart is they do not have a contract with a record producer. They do it all themselves except for the final mix which is sent to Ed Boyer who also does the mixing for Pentatonix, Home Free and other top a cappella groups. In cases where they have extensive make up, they do have a person who comes in just for that. They also are now using a steady cam operator. For the first 10 years or so they used to stationary camera.

There are some other a capella groups that you may want to check out if you haven't already. Of course Home Free and Pentatonix and now Voice Play. But the lesser known groups are Voctave (11 members and totally different but no less talented and wonderful), Peter Hollens (the "King of Layering"), and The Bass Gang (all bass singers who all have pretty incredible vocal ranges). Here are my recommendations for each: Voctave--"The Disney Princess Medley" featuring the ladies of Voctave; "The Disney Heroes and Villains Medley" featuring the men of Vocatve and The Great Movie Medley (featuring the music written by John Williams for films); The Bass Gang--"Friend Like Me" (from the movie "Aladdin"), "Arabian Nights" (from the movie "Aladdin", not a capella); and "Gaston" (from the movie "Beauty and the Beast"), Peter Hollens--very timely "Evolution of Christmas Song", "Shenandoah" (from the movie of the same name), and "Misty Mountain" (from the movie "The Hobbit"--special guest Tim Foust from Home Free).

There are 3 A Capella groups that I say are equal and are the best out there. 1) Pentatonix, who won the third season of a singing competition called The Sing Off. 2) Home Free, who won the 4th season of The Sing Off. 3) Voice Play who most members (and they change members often) have backgrounds with Disney so they are very theatrical. All three are absolutely fantastic A Capella groups. I do not favor one of the other. I listen to them all with equal praise.

If you want something different, something from before _any_ of your times, I recommend looking up 'We Want No Irish Here' by The Clancy Brothers with Tommy Makem. Its was a song performed for President JFK on the 100th anniversary of the end of the Civil War. Its a song about Irish people gaining the trust of people who were prejudges against them. The Clancy Brother's and Tommy Makem were a large part of making folk music popular in the US, Canada and Australia. You also might like 'The Road Not Taken' by The High Kings who are a sort of spiritual successor to the Clancy Brothers.

I love y'all and your reactions, but the constant cutting in and out of the audio when y'all are conversing with one another is just nerve wracking! Is there something that can be done about it? Your video is better now though. You each have a sharper image. Thanks and welcome to the awesome Voiceplay! There are many of their videos to choose from!
