Gayle McCormick of Smith died after a long bout with cancer in her mid- to late-sixties (I think). She had her fill of the music industry and just wanted to return to her hometown where she grew up. And that's what she did, where she took an ordinary, everyday job. I've heard it said that Gayle was a very humble person and simply a pleasure to be around. RIP, Gayle. Your music lives on and I can honestly say I believe I could listen to Baby, It's You a million times everyday and never get tired of it. ❤
I saw “Smith” live years ago. They were the featured act. The relatively unknown band that opened for Smith that evening was The Allman Brothers Band. Every song played by Allmans later became hits. Smith only had this one hit.
ADOGG, wow... Can't believe you found this one, such a great tune from back in the day. She had a voice that could break concrete . It's magical alright..so glad you got to react to this classic.
I've watched this video at least 10 or more times since you first dropped it! I just hadn't had a chance to make a comment. This is definitely one of my top songs while growing up! The song was released in 1969. (In 1961 a girl group The Shirelles did a release. Along with The Beatles in 1963) The 1996 release by A Group Called Smith with Gayle McCormick as the singer. (to me) She has a voice that's bold while also being heart felt and passionate. Sadly her career was only a one hit wonder. Unfortunately she passed away from cancer in 2016. Since your posting, I was really wishing the video would get more views than it has so far. But hey anyway, ADogg thanks for reacting to songs that don't get alotta of views but are still great songs! There's still some viewers (like me) who like our golden oldies and classic rock oldies! (even tho they don't pay or pay much) At least we can still have fun jammin to the great oldies together! 🤗😎
This was originally done by the Shirelles ( a girl group from the 60s) Check it out. Also, if you like this sound, you might like St Etienne - Only Love Can Break your Heart, great song.
