As a metalhead, I’m proud to say that ABBA will always be one of my favorite guilty pleasures….this one & “Lay All Your Love on Me” are my faves ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
I was a metalhead back in the 80s - listening to Sabbath, Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Iron Maiden, Metallica, etc., and ABBA was my embarrassing secret. Looking back, I don't think I was the only one, but none of us would have ever admitted it. I'm too old to care any more. I love them.
2 of the best female singers out there. Real stunners too. Great harmonies. Awesome band. Two clever and talented men. Put all four together and well Wow. WOW.
Its hard not to love the killer melodies of ABBA, they knew how to write great songs.....So CLASSIC and Legendary!! They have so many great ones.....I love S.O.S
In the 80's, Anni Frid (the brunette woman in ABBA), aka Frida, sang a solo song called "I KNOW THERE'S SOMETHING GOING ON". This song was produced by Phil Collins. Phil played the drums on this song and sang backup in the chorus. It's excellent. You will LOVE this song by "Frida". PLEASE react to it. 🙌
This is one of my favorite ABBA songs. There was a time people made fun of their cheesiness, but their genuine, undeniable talent has stood the test of time. Thanks for doing this one!
This song perfectly demonstrates what alot of ABBA fans refer to as "The Third Voice". That's when their voices blend and compliment each other so perfectly that it sounds like it's a whole group of people and can't possibly be just Agnetha and Frida singing when it is.
Not to detract from their awesome sound, but the women are actually double tracking. That is, they are recording themselves multiple times to get at least 3 or 4-note chords. They are definitely singing more than just two notes at a time.
My favorite and absolutely gorgeous best song from this group. The intro is a fantastic reminder of what true classic singing was. What a wonderful 🤯💎. The keyboard player is terrific as well
ABBA was such a great group. Their feel-good music we need more of today. Even someone who was not a dancer felt like dancing when Dancing Queen was playing in the clubs.
This was the first song I ever heard by ABBA in 1977 when I was 9 years old and I was IN LOVE. Still adore them to this day. The guys are Benny (who was married to Frida) and Bjorn (who was married to Agnetha.) You recently heard Benny and Bjorn on Murray Head's "One Night In Bangkok." They were writers and contributed vocals on that one. As for more ABBA, if you want some serious disco vibes, check out "Voulez Vous" If you'd like something more serious "Knowing Me, Knowing You" is an absolute must-do. I can think of few songs...and I had ALL their albums back in the day...that I didn't love.
They do have backing vocals, but in their own voices. ABBA's studio recording are layered. Usually they recorded the backing track first. Recall that music videos are studio recordings with the band members lip syncing in the video. And that goes for every artist and group. When ABBA performed live they typically used 3 backup vocalists, one male and two female. Also consider that ABBA's music videos were industry firsts, well before MTV! Check out some of their concert performances from Australia, or Wembley Arena in London.
There has been a huge rebirth of Abba songs over the past decade. On Broadway and in Vegas, Mamma Mia ignited a new (recently, amongst those born long after ABBA retired) appreciation of just how great their music is. Like several other iconic groups, have done (Fleetwoood Mac, The Beatles, The Eagles, and more), ABBA wrote and performed their best music just before breaking up. "The Winner Takes It All", in my mind (even though it was not their all-time best seller), was definitely their best song, performed with the most conviction. The heartache of breaking up is clearly felt with every word Agnetha sings in her inimitable voice and style.
I love ABBA! You guys are delving real deep into my childhood. Apparently I could dance before I could walk. I would pull myself up to the coffee table and shake what God gave me. I was raised in the ‘70’s and ‘80’s. Those were the best items for music.
ABBA were a great band. Absolutely masterfully written pop songs in their second language. Most groups in the 70s were secretly jealous at how good they were.
ABBA - Goat of pop! Indeed! ABBA did dare to create new expressions. This idea of rhytm in this song is the sound of jogging coming from Björn 😂. I suggest three totally different (less known) songs compare to eachother - all amazing. It is Eagle (long version), The Name Of The Game (romantic R&B) or I’ve been waiting for you (LIVE from Australia). ABBA has got so many bangers, can’t actually go wrong here… Cheers🎉
The thing that amazes me the most about ABBA is the fact that their songwriters did not have English as their first language. It's one thing to speak in English but to be able to write it well especially in rhymes is not easy. Their songs are well written.
This group had some success in North America but they were absolutely huge in other parts of the world. South and Central America, Australia (full blown ABBA-mania there for two or three years) and Japan. They were even hugely popular on the other side of the Iron Curtain. During one year, the old Soviet Union spent their entire annual budget for foreign (Western) imports on ABBA records. Masses of hits and great album cuts to discover. The ABBA rabbit hole is deep.
Woooo! Finally! I love this song! Ever since it came out about the mid 70's I think, I'm not sure but man was that an awesome song to hear and sing along with on the radio back then! I am so happy to see you two enjoyed this song as much as we did and still do! Seriously next song should be "Lay All Your Love on Me" by ABBA There is still so much more to come from ABBA Jay and Amber. Oh, by the way, Benny and Bjorn and the names of the guys in the band. They represent the letters BB in ABBA and Agnetha and Anni-Frid represent the two A's in ABBA. They all have wonderful voices! I enjoyed your reaction! ☮💕
Here's another fun fact that many people might not be aware of: The word Abba is in the New Testament. It's another name for God the Father. It actually means Daddy. As children of God it's okay to call him Daddy. It's a little more user-friendly than Jehovah or Elohim his more proper first names, there are others too but I really like Abba. We can thank Abba for Abba, (the Swedish Beatles) I'm not ashamed to say that I am a king's kid, neither should you be. Jesus is our brother or better yet our BFF. He's the reason we can even approach the Father. He paid our sin debt in full in case you didn't know. Thanks for listening.
There are so many incredible tracks by Abba its so hard to choose a favorite, I would suggest "Summer Night City" "Angeleyes" "Does your mother know" and so much more. My mom got me into this group, she grew up with this in her teen years growing up in good ol PR.
Great reaction....Abba their voices those women are just like God just made them to sing together! Their Swedish culture comes through in their music. So good!
Can't go wrong with any ABBA song. Some more standouts are: Knowing You, Knowing Me, Fernando, The Name of The Game, Why Did It Have to Be Me (this has one of the guys doing some singing in it too), One Man, One Woman, Voulez-Vous, If it Wasn't For The Night, Put On Your White Sombrero, Me and I, One of Us, Two for the Price of One (hilarious song with one of the guys singing) and their first hit - Ring, Ring. Also "Waterloo" - an early hit.
I LOVE ABBA. We bought all their records. Agnetha and Anni-Frid have the voices of angels. I do not know which you have and have not heard but I'll name just a few of my favorites, here: "The Winner Takes It All", "S.O.S. "Money, Money, Money", "Voulez-Vous", "Ring, Ring", "Dancing Queen", "Does Your Mother Know", Super Trouper", "Chiquitita", "Waterloo", "Thank You For The Music", "Fernando", "Gimme, Gimme, Gimme! (A Man After Midnight), "Knowing Me, Knowing You", "Honey, Honey", "I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do", "Mama Mia".. ALL OF THESE ARE GOOD. (There are more, but my hand is getting tired) LOVE you's two. Go with God. Peace.
My late Sister was probably the biggest fan this band ever had. She saw them on The Two Ronnies (Waterloo, they had just won the Eurovision Song Contest) and she loved them. Then they started their skyrocket rise. They discovered Australia and took over our televisions for years. Every talkshow, The ABBA Movie (an Aussie journalist misses his every date for an exclusive interview, until he finally gets it at the end culminating in "Come to My Loveland"). Suffice to say, the funeral had more than a little ABBA played.
I love how you picked up, commented and complimented the ladies' voices. "Super Duo" is close, but the die hard fans know it as the legendary, "Third Voice".
The second greatest writing foursome in recorded history. The Beatles then Abba. They just understood the art of pop music. Ear worm platinum just about every song. Waterloo come one. I dare you not to sing that for at least three days after hearing it. Then 50 yrs later to come out with that come back Album was simply incredible. Incredible songs, incrdible vocal arrangements and performances still.
Where? I seem to remember them not doing so well on US stations, because they didn't tour here enough. Of course they had their reasons, like Agnetha's children not to mention her fear of flying.
Their videos were filmed before MTV, before ‘video’ was even a word for them. They were referred to as promotional films and filmed on a low budget with a lot of creativity.
Jay and Amber, I remember a time, around 1980, when I heard somewhere that ABBA were the biggest group in the world and a 'Supergroup"!? I was fully into my hard rock Zeppelin phase, and I was like ABBA? no wayyy..in the whole world? I dismissed songs like this as pop tripe- catchy but throwaway. Now I see that they are among the giants of 20th century popular music haha.
If no one has mentioned it yet, the group Erasure ( who you’ve reacted to previously! 😃) put out an EP of ABBA covers, and not only did they do “Take A Chance On Me” but they did a shot-for-shot remake of this music video! It is a lot of fun. Not only a crossover from the two groups but also to see how Erasure interpreted the iconic ABBA. I hope you check it out, even if not on the channel. Definitely highly recommended! Thank you for the great videos, I enjoy you both so very much. ☮️💟😃
I always enjoy ABBAs videos, too. Simple but well executed. You might even say well acted. This one is pretty much just the band members bouncing around on a white background, but it's so fun to watch.
I Can't believe you've listen to all this ABBA and haven't done Dancing Queen yet! You absolutely have to. It's arguable their biggest hit. Make sure you use the performance video from inside the club. Easy to find
Can I suggest ( maybe for female Friday) “ Slipping through my fingers”. It features mainly Agnatha’s voice and is a beautiful ballad. I can bet it will resonate with you in relation to your beautiful daughters.
This song always makes me so happy and you have so many more great ABBA-songs to react to. Great to see your smile to this one :) Next song --> The Day Before You Came or When all is said and done Next song2 --> If it wasn´t for the nights, Slipping through my fingers
Growing up over the years, I've listened to various genres of music, but I will always go back to ABBA when I'm feeling down cause their music is so uplifting and fun
