I love this song. My wife and I have been married 51 years, so we have a lot of memories. We have two daughter, three sons, and six grandchildren, god has good to us.
Alan is such a great songwriter and performer so I love a lot of what he does but what’s so special about this song to me is how it doesn’t candy coat the struggles people often go through. No one said marriage and raising kids is easy but man is it worth it! The song mentions how the start was hard and how life threw them some curves, which happens. Also, how they’ll break each other’s hearts and hopefully bend but not break the marriage. How having kids can teach valuable lessons to the parents who have to let go of so much of themselves and put the kids first which often brings the parents closer even though the job of raising kids is one of the hardest yet most rewarding things they’ll ever do. It also talks about how our perceptions and values change as life moves on and how ultimately we’d do it all again, the struggles, the hurt, the broken trust, the rebuilt trust, the joy, and the love. It’s a masterpiece and had I not been married for 17 years with two kids this song wouldn’t have the same impact on me as it does now.
I dearly LOVE this song, no matter how many times I hear it tears aways flow. My husband and I were happily married for 45 years. We always danced to this song. My heart and his always joined in true love. He went to Heaven in 1916 and my life will never be the same. You have WONDERFUL memories but it’s not the same. I look beside beside me in bed and he’s not there. No hugs, no kisses , no sharing of the day we had. I thank God that we both are born again Christians and one day he will meet me at Heavens gate. I love AJ he has three albums! And I took my daughter to see him. Unfornately, Sapp centers aucustics are not as well as an outdoor venue....and my baby at the time had and was getting over not feeling well and because of inner ear thing and it was taking the fun and love for the performers so we left and my baby threw up in bushes....i wish and hope she realizes her MOM ...me ....misses kissing her good night and kissing her forehead just to see if she is ferverrish....my girls will never know how much I truly love them. And how much i miss just hearing their voices. I love music and I hope I taught them how to love and respect themselves and others. I bitch about about life but my love and heart is uncondictional when it comes to my girls and respect for my mom and dad and for others that I know I have been blessed by that do not even have a clue.
