Hello my friend. Angelina was actually just 12 years old in this one. I know it says 13 in the description in the original video, but that is wrong. This is one of the very few times you actually hear Angelina belting. Up until that point in her career, there had been a few "evil" tongues claiming that she couldn't belt. And Angelina's answer to that was "Here! Hold my shoes! " and she did this....LMAO Those naysayers went silent rather quickly. That's the beauty of Angelina's performances. She NEVER does anything out of character or something a particular song doesn't need, just to show off her range and technique. Enough young, so called artists do that already, not grasping the essence of MUSIC. It's not about who can make the most impressive runs or who can hit the highest/lowest notes. It's about making you FEEL the music and the artist. Nothing superficial about Angelina, neither as a person nor as an artist. She's the real deal in every way. Kinda scary that she was able to pull something like this off at age 12, with lungs far from fully developed.This song is among the most demanding to perform ever made, also when it comes to breath control and lung capacity. Angelina's breath control really HAS to be among the very best in the business. To be honest, this performance is the only one where you can hear her run out a fraction towards the end. Never before and never after. Also consider the fact that this is a one or possibly two take recording in her room, whereas Whitney's original is a polished and polished again studio recording, where every small bit of imperfection had been removed and redone. And Whitney was 29 years old. Lastly I just have to say that I love how genuine you are and that you don't apologize when she touches yor emotions. Just a quick tip, although I guess you've already understood as much : Get used to it! LOL Another thing you should get used to, and not be bothered too much by, is the fact that you repeatedly will find yourself at the loss of words. Angelina just is TOO special to be defined by a simple word or phrase. One reactor recently came up with the word UMAMI music when describing her, and I think that is the best one I have heard so far. A few weeks after that, so norwegian commenters told me, Angelina Jordan Astar was declared "The National Treasure of Norway" by the people, the government and the royal family of Norway. His Highness Crown Prince Haakon of Norway is to this day a big fan and a good friend to Angelina and her family.

She did this song again earlier in the summer of 2022 at age 16, in the same antique furniture store. Rob Christie, a grammy winner himself, again accompanying on piano. He is the head of studio productions for Republic Records. His relationship with Angelina and her family has been such a comfortable and positive influence. No accident she signed to Republic.

Her early stuff is amazing. At the ages of 8-10 her vocal skills were not as highly developed as they are now but she already had that incredible musicality that just grabs you emotionally and pulls you right in. To put this in perspective, a Whitney song was the first recorded performances of Angelina. If memory serves me right, Angelina admired Whitney. At a certain point in Angelina's career, some speculated (maybe because A.J. had performed so many ballads) that Angelina did not have "belting" ability in her vocal toolbox!!! This performance shut that noise off.

How can Angelina have 1000 different voices? My theory is that she channels the original artist. Or maybe it is just magic. Since you paused in disbelief, I thought it would be a good time to comment. I think I was as excited to see your reaction as you were to hear her. I had proud Grandad happy tears in my eyes (even though I'm not her Grandad, it's the best way I can explain them) watching you sit there with your mouth open. Not quite as much as the girl when Angelina sang on AGT: The Champions, but it was still good. Yeah, just shy of her 13th birthday when she recorded this, and she nails it. Six years I've been following her and I still react the same way after hearing her sing all these songs hundreds of times. I'm subscribing to see more Angelina reactions. Okay so I have watched Angelina since she was 8. I am long long time fan of hers. I watch her videos everyday as a pass time while I multitask etc etc etc lol. I have to be honest and say she struggled very much with this song and it’s not my favorite cover of hers. She has soooo many other beautiful covers and to be honest this is probably the only one where you can hear her struggle. I think it has to do with the higher register that she doesn’t often use. In either case I hope you continue to react to her other videos, I think your mind would be blown if you saw her acapella version of “I’m a fool to want you” when she was on norways got talent. It's not just that she can sound different from one cover to the next. It's that she can do that *and* make it sound _better than the original singer_ . Now, obviously this will depend on the preferences of the listener, but for me, it has happened over and over, and over. With this particular video, for example, I thought I knew Whitney's original well enough, having been an adult already in the 1990s, so I didn't go and compare the two performances head-to-head until long after I had gotten _very_ familiar with Angelina's version through watching many reactions to it. In the meantime, I was commenting things like, "Now, I'm not going to say she sang it better than Whitney, but…". Eventually, I needed to compare the two directly to verify something I was going to say in a comment. I listened to them verse-by-verse and line-by-line, first Whitney, then Angelina. Whitney, Angelina… I was _shocked_ at what I heard. Whitney Houston's original recording, as presented in the "Official HD Video" with a half-billion views, didn't sound like I had remembered it. The beginning sounded a bit dull and lifeless - almost robotic compared to the way Angelina sang it. Whitney's high belted notes were largely short "flips" up to the notes, rather than the longer, more confident sounding belts of Angelina. Even the case of the highest note in the song (they sing it in the same key), on the word "my" the final time "Stay in my arms" is sung, I discovered that Whitney's voice actually *cracked* as she sang that note. I had never noticed that before. Angelina sang it smoothly and surely. Whitney seemed to be straining. W. T. F. !? (To be fair, one could say that Whitney was just "putting emotion into it", but the fact remained: Whitney's highest note wasn't as "well sung" as Angelina's.) This was probably the third time I had a bit of an "existential crisis" in relation to Angelina Jordan. It was like some kind of weird "Through the Looking Glass" / "Mandela Effect" moment. The world I found myself in was (for the third time!) not the world I thought I had been living in. A 12- or 13-year-old girl (depending on how long it took to post the video) had outsung a 28- or 29-year-old Whitney Frikken Houston on one of her most beloved songs. I had to accept it: yes, Angelina sang it better. No reservations anymore. My only "saving grace" is that it's pretty clear that we are not hearing Angelina sing a single, uninterrupted, unedited audio take, but instead a mix (it appears) of original audio and resung "drop-in" audio. (I say this because of a long list of "mismatches" I see between what we are seeing and what we are hearing throughout the video - and yet it doesn't appear that the entire video is a "mismatch" between the audio and video. This takes way too much time to go through all the details. Just watch and listen *very* carefully.) She also clearly starts to run out of steam at one point, resulting in a bit of a "wonkily" sung "Stay" the second (not last) time she sings "Stay in my arms", followed by an almost-out-of-breath "Don't walk away from me" two lines later. And this might explain some of the later audio/video discrepancies after that point in the video. But… you know… picky, picky. I'm still left with a "home studio" version by a 12- or 13-year-old outdoing, to a large extent, a professionally produced, major-label studio recording by a Grammy-winning, multiplatinum-selling (even at that time) superstar. Yeeeah. OK. I'll just deal with that. BTW, fair warning: her Adele covers might actually do some real psychological damage. Two of them have reduced me to a blubbering mess. (Oh, and finally: spiders must have discovered Angelina Jordan. Another reacter recently listened to her for the first time with a quite intinidating spider over his head. He totally forgot about it once she started singing.)

That is a 13 year old voice doing that. While the last chord change put her in the fumes of her range she still did pretty well. What she has is fearlessness vocally. Absolutely fearless! She does the greatest songs by the greatest artists and people compare them as if she has every right to be as good as the best at the height of their careers cutting tracks in studio with all that implies while she (often) does a single take in a corner of her house while still just a girl.
